Varsity Tutors can set up you up with qualified, thorough Indianapolis LSAT preparation. If you are planning to apply to law schools, you will take the Law School Admission Test, or LSAT. Law schools will look at your score for this exam as one of the primary factors on whether to accept you into their law program. Your score is a reliable measure of how well you will perform in the classroom, so it's vital you do your best on this exam.
The LSAT is made up of four sections and is the only test accepted by all Canadian common-law law schools and ABA-accredited law schools. Taking the LSAT will be one of the biggest challenges you face as you begin applying to law schools such as the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. As you begin reviewing for the test, an Indianapolis LSAT prep course might be something for you to consider. Or maybe you would prefer to have the more personal interaction an Indianapolis LSAT tutor might provide. Whichever option you choose, Varsity Tutors is ready to help you find the resource that will work best for you and your schedule.
What can Indianapolis LSAT prep cover?
The LSAT consists of four different sections, including Analytical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Writing. When you arrive at the test center, you will get a tablet to take the LSAT. The tablet can flag questions you may want to look at again, give you a five-minute warning, and highlight pertinent text. You will tap on the screen to choose an answer. Let's take a closer look at what each section covers so you will be better prepared for test day.
The Analytical Reasoning section is 35 minutes long. It measures your ability to understand the structure of relationships and be able to draw conclusions about them. You are assessed on your ability to infer what might be true or could be true based on rules and facts or new information presented as hypotheticals, to use reasoning with conditional statements, to comprehend the basic structure of a set of relationships and determine a solution to the problem, and to recognize two contextual statements that are logically equal.
Next is the Logical Reasoning section. This part of the LSAT is two sections that you have a total of 70 minutes to complete. Questions refer to passages from magazines, scholarly periodicals, advertisements, newspapers, and informal discourse. It measures your ability to critically evaluate, analyze, and complete arguments. You will be assessed on skills such as identifying explanations and flaws in arguments, applying rules or principles, determining how adding more information effects an argument, drawing conclusions with well-supported evidence, and reasoning by analogy. Other skills assessed include being able to detect assumptions made by particular arguments, recognizing how the parts of an argument relate to each other, and recognizing points of disagreement or misunderstandings.
Then, you will take the Reading Comprehension section. This part of the test is one section that is 35 minutes long. It measures your ability to read and understand long, difficult passages like those you will read in law school and as a lawyer. Once you finish reading the passages, you will have various questions to answer on the primary purpose or main idea, ideas or information that is either inferred or explicitly stated, the structure or organization, and the purpose or meaning of the phrases or words. You will also have to answer questions on the principles from the selection, analogies to arguments or claims from the selection, the author's tone or attitude of the passage, and the impact new information has on arguments or claims in the passage.
The last part is the Writing section. This part lasts 35 minutes and is unscored. It is administered separately from the multiple choice questions and you will have one year to complete this part from the date of the multiple-choice part of the exam. This section is a writing prompt, which presents you with a decision you must make. You are asked to choose one of two choices and defend why you choose the side you did. You don't have to worry about choosing the wrong answer because there isn't one. This writing sample shows possible law schools your ability to argue effectively as well as to show that you can be clear, use reason, organize an essay, and use proper grammar and punctuation.

Learning a second language forced me to reevaluate my use of English. I spent a great deal of time deconstructing words and sentences in order to understand how the two languages could be translated, and because of this, I have a deeper understanding of how the English language works. My passion for learning a...

I tutor the LSAT because I know it's a hard test and I know what it's like to struggle with it. However I also understand the process necessary to produce better scores, and nothing is more satisfying to me than helping someone achieve what seemed impossible a few months ago.... Your score is a product of so many factors--your understanding of the material, your speed, even how accurately you bubble answers--but in the end it all comes down to whether you studied the test from every angle and put in the time necessary to get the results you want.
