Boost Your GRE Verbal Score

The GRE's Verbal Reasoning section is divided into two subsections of 20 multiple-choice questions each. Your GRE Verbal tutor can show you how to eliminate some of the incorrect answer choices if you're unsure, raising the efficacy of any guesses you make.

Best Ways To Prep For the GRE Verbal Section

A private GRE Verbal tutor can design a customized study plan that concentrates on your specific areas of opportunity. For instance, you can focus on utilizing context clues if you find that you're struggling with sentence equivalence items.

Alternatively, you don't need to review sentence equivalence items at all if you're already confident about working with them. In contrast, software-based test prep aids follow a set curriculum that cannot be adapted to your needs. Software also can't answer any questions you have, while a live instructor can provide the answers you're looking for in a timely fashion. We think it's pretty obvious which one is the superior option.

How much does a GRE Verbal tutor cost?

The cost of GRE Verbal tutoring is variable according to the services you're interested in. For instance, you may be charged a different rate for a last-minute cram session than you would be for regular meetings over a few months.

If you're looking for maximal affordability, you can take advantage of group tutoring options that allow you to split the cost of instruction with other students. We also provide a comprehensive GRE Verbal class that can serve as either a supplement to private tutoring or a cost-effective alternative. Contact Varsity Tutors today for more specific pricing info for your region.

How do I choose a GRE Verbal tutor?

A great tutor combines superlative communication abilities with a thorough understanding of the content to be reviewed, but it can be tough to find such an individual on your own. Varsity Tutors thoroughly vets every instructor in our network, allowing us to match you with an instructor who offers the academic and teaching skills you need quickly.

We also look for instructors who embrace results-driven education, so you'll always know where you stand. Why go through the hassle of trying to find your own instructor when expert GRE Verbal tutoring is just a phone call (or a few clicks) away?

Are GRE Verbal tutors worth it?

If you deal with test anxiety, a GRE Verbal coach can help you deal with it in multiple ways. You could review mindfulness strategies to help you calm your nerves, or take practice tests under realistic conditions so you know exactly what to expect on test day.

Studies also suggest that working with a private tutor can improve a student's test scores by 11-12 percent, even if you're already a high-achiever who excels in school. Contact us via the "Get Started" tab above or by phone to learn more about how a tutor could help you reach for your academic potential. We think you'll be glad you did!

The student and I went over the general format of the verbal section of the test. This session, we focused specifically on building vocabulary skills, using resources like the prep books and other prep websites. We focused on sentence equivalence questions, and worked with a variety of strategies for answering these questions (process of elimination, predicting an answer, identifying context clues, etc.).

Online GRE Verbal Tutoring review by Benjamin
The student has requested that we focus on the verbal portion of the test, as she is comfortable with the quantitative section. We worked on strategies for the sentence completion type of questions. She is struggling with vocabulary a bit, so I suggested that she study from a list of "word families" which groups related words rather than trying to memorize individual definitions for a long list of words because she is taking the test in less than a month.

Online GRE Verbal Tutoring review by Matthew
Today the student had her book, so we went over the prep book's section on Verbal Reasoning, the section of the GRE on which the student thought she'd need the most work. We did many sample problems of all types of question on this section. She has a good grasp of the mechanics of the questions, and of the reading comprehension sections; she does need to work on her vocabulary, which is the element of the verbal section that we will focus on going forward.
