If you're looking to enroll your student in a Virginia Beach ISEE course, look no further because Varsity Tutors is available to assist your student in reaching for his or her ISEE goals. The ISEE, or the Independent School Entrance Exam, is used by independent schools admission offices as a means of determining a potential student's ability to succeed in their school. The ISEE isn't the only considerations for admissions. Schools also look at grades, teacher recommendations, and interviews, but it's important for your student to do well on the exam as a way to showcase his or her reasoning and achievement skills. A Virginia Beach ISEE course can help your student prepare more effectively than he or she might be able to do alone and can help prevent the review process from becoming frustrating.
What skills and topics can a Virginia Beach ISEE class cover to help my student get ready to take the ISEE?
The ISEE is divided into different levels for students of different ages. Children preparing to enter the second, third, or fourth grade will take the Primary 2, 3, or 4 ISEE. Children about to enter fifth or sixth grade will take the Lower Level ISEE. Students beginning seventh or eighth grade will be required to take the Middle Level ISEE while those preparing to enter a high school grade level will take the Upper Level ISEE. Each level contains age-appropriate questions assessing your student on the various skills he or she has learned in school as well as logical thinking skills. Let's take a look at the skills evaluated at each level more closely, starting with the Primary Level.
The Primary 2, 3, and 4 contain three different sections: Math, Reading, and a Writing sample. The Math section measures your child's ability to perform grade-level mathematical skills and operations. The Reading section assesses your child's ability to read a passage and respond correctly to questions about the content. There will also be vocabulary questions in the Reading section. The Writing section will provide your student with a picture prompt, and he or she must write a story using the picture as the basis. This section doesn't receive a score but allows the school to get an idea of your child's personality and creative abilities. Primary 2 students will also take an Auditory Comprehension section. They will be required to listen to a short passage and answer questions about it. These passages can either come from fiction or nonfiction selections.
The Upper, Middle, and Lower sections consist of four scored segments plus a Writing sample. The scored sections are Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Math Achievement. The difficulty and level of the questions in these sections will vary based on the level your student is taking. Verbal Reasoning questions are your student's opportunity to demonstrate basic English skills, such as knowledge of synonyms, ability to finish a sentence properly, or age-appropriate vocabulary. The section on Quantitative Reasoning asks your student to use mathematical skills to solve problems. This is an assessment which focuses more on mathematical thinking than the actual math operations. The Reading Comprehension section requires students to read various passages and be able to infer ideas as well as determining the main and supporting ideas. The Math Achievement section is your student's opportunity to demonstrate skills such as being able to solve equations, knowing the properties of operations, or working with decimals and fractions.
No matter which skill your student needs to improve, a Virginia Beach ISEE prep course can help him or her gain confidence through guided practice opportunities.
What are the benefits of taking a Virginia Beach ISEE course?
Varsity Tutors prides itself in providing exceptional Virginia Beach ISEE class opportunities. We have a difficult and meticulous interview process which ensure your student will receive instruction from a highly-qualified instructor with excellent communication skills. Your student will be able to interact with their instructor using our online learning platform that provides the same type of learning environment one might find in a normal classroom. Being able to access live course sessions online also makes it very convenient to fit instructional time into your family's busy schedule. Your student can attend class from the comfort of his or her favorite place to study as long as there is access to a computer and WiFi. This allows for instruction at the public library, a local coffee shop, or in the comfort of your own home. Your student will have the opportunity to take either a 2-week or 4-week course. Varsity Tutors has new course sessions beginning each week, allowing your student to get started with ISEE prep as soon as he or she is ready.
With these interactive courses, your student will also be able to collaborate with his or her classmates. For example, your student can engage in group discussions about cause and effect to prepare for the Reading Comprehension section or talk about the best way to organize a written piece for the Writing portion. He or she can also participate in group activities such as the opportunity to practice working on Math Achievement problems and discuss how to best work through each problem. These types of collaborative activities have been shown to help students understand the material more deeply and easily.
If your student ever feels like he or she needs extra help with a particular subject or skill, individual time to speak to the instructor and ask questions can be scheduled.

...I have also taught 4th and 5th grade. I grew up knowing I wanted to be a teacher and spent my high school and college years volunteering with different children's programs, primarily in my church. I have a passion and great desire to work with children and to help them reach their potential.... To begin, I would need to know where my student was in the subject we are focusing on. I would need to know their reading or math levels, so I would need the student to complete some kind of assessment. I imagine that would take up most of the time. By the next time we meet, I should have a better idea of what the student needs to work on.
