During today's tutoring session, I chose another topic for us to discuss. The topic was memory. The student and I discussed memories which trigger different emotions. We then worked on prepositions and conjunctions. He read a passage about castles and answered the questions which followed. The passage was a little challenging, but he was able to answer most of the questions correctly.

The student and I covered his challenges as displayed on his progress report. This included things like real number sets, as well as unit prices. We also spent a little time working on percentages. He was fairly interested in the material, however we will need more practice in order to further develop his understanding. I will be sending over a practice sheet in order to further test his progress on what we worked on before.

Tutoring review by Amit in Walkersville, MD
Today, we worked on the SAT reading section, specifically the passages and critical reading questions. I explained the four types of passages, 5 steps to doing a first reading, 5 main principles, 5 steps to attacking questions, 5 types of wrong answers, and process of elimination techniques. We practiced these techniques using a variety of passages and passage-based questions. We talked through the passages and analyzed them, focusing on main ideas and glossing over details or challenging vocabulary. The student performed well on these questions and picked up the concepts easily. He just needs to use the techniques in a methodical manner. Towards the end of the session, he had improved in this area. He is much stronger in SAT reading and will score higher on this section.

Tutoring review by Jeff in Walkersville, MD
In today's session, we went over some of the homework that the student had. We first worked on problems involving factoring and multiplying polynomials together. We used the substitution method for some and then simplified. The next section we worked on involved adding and subtracting binomials together. I reminded her that the denominator has to be the same in order for us to complete the operation. We were able to complete 2 of the sections she was given and will pick back up next week.
