Tutoring review by Krystal in Sand Springs, OK
I reviewed with the student the concepts she has covered for the semester. She began with statistics (Mean, Median, Mode, Range) and has a solid grasp on all the terms and calculations involved. We also reviewed the different types of numbers (rational, irrational, etc.), and she is building a solid grip on those definitions and certainly has a base for them.

Tutoring review by Darian in Sand Springs, OK
We covered compounding interest problems. He understood the homework pretty well. However, he did struggle to know the difference between when to do the continuous equation or not. Once I clarified the difference, he did the rest of the problems with ease. Overall, this was a great session.

Tutoring review by Kelsey in Sand Springs, OK
Today, before our session, I learned that the student has been placed in a small group for Math and study skills for the remainder of this year and all of next year. This program will help catch him up in Math in preparation for high school. He will also receive individualized homework help in study skills (assuring he gets his homework done every day during school and providing him any necessary help) and additional allowances and help during tests. I think this a great move. His grades have been improving throughout this whole semester. Since we didn't have any Math to work on today (the program has started back from where we've been, and he said it's pretty easy right now) we talked about organization and study skills. He will still be in regular classes for the rest of school and will be starting science again. All of these classes will be worked on in small group study skills though. We wrote out a list of supplies he would find helpful to use for organization, such as a multiple-pocket folder and labels to identify where each class's work should go. We discussed ways to stay organized, such as separating each class's work, labeling everything with a name and subject for easy sorting, and going through his things every night to make sure everything is in order for the next day of classes. We also discussed how to study for tests. We reviewed what he has been doing (re-reading and rewriting notes to review, having a friend quiz him) and thought up new strategies. These included looking in homework/textbooks/study guides for additional practice problems and making up new problems in the case of math, and teaching someone else about concepts for classes like science or social studies. Lastly, I wanted to show the student what I think is one of the best online sources for Math practice. I showed him how the website works; there are an incredible amount of explanatory videos for every Math topic you can think of. He seemed very interested in the website, so we took the last portion of our session to set up a profile for him so he can access everything right away. I encouraged him to have his parents look at the website with him so they can be familiar with it as well. There is also an option "For Parents" that I haven't explored myself, but I think it would be worth looking at.

Tutoring review by Jonna in Sand Springs, OK
Today we covered some math problems from the 2nd grade that the student should have known. They ranged from 3-digit multiplication, word problems with addition, subtraction, and multiplication, money and time problems. We then went into 4 digit subtraction that involved borrowing and different types of multiplication problems. He did a great job with 2 digits by 1 digit. We will continue work on 3 digit by 1 digit and refreshing on multiplication. Next time we will continue work with multiplication and start with division.
