I coached the student through her current Math test review on angle pairs fairly quickly. She seems to find this concept easy. I informed the student's mother of my plan to prepare the student for the test before I left, and instructed that the student could finish the rest of the practice problems before tomorrow.

Today, we studied for the AP Statistics test. Mostly, we just covered some subjects from the course, based out of problems in his practice exam book. We will work more on it next week.

Tutoring review by Andrew in Saint Paul, MN
I covered the following topics: solving 2-step equations, area and perimeter of a triangle, graphing coordinate points, finding slope of vertical and horizontal lines, one-step inequalities, evaluating variable expressions, one-step problems with fractions, and finally, two step equations. The student still struggles with solving the variable expressions, and with adding and subtracting fractions without a common denominator. Once I go through it step-by-step, however, she seems to catch on. Her graphing has improved a lot! I left the student with many practice problems. She does seem to be showing great improvement in math from where she started with me. She's really getting the hang of graphing and solving algebraic expressions.

Tutoring review by Jayar in Saint Paul, MN
Yesterday, the student completed homework that she received from class having to do solely with exponents. A few problems gave visuals if the form of cube or a square, and she had to determine the power expression: area which is to the power of 2 or volume which is to the power of 3. The worksheet also gave a number and a base and she had to figure out the power. Example 2401 and base of 7. She then decided to divide 7 into 2401 (which =343). But she didn't know how to move forward. So I showed her how to keep dividing by the base until the number was simplified and to keep track of how many bases or 7s she ended up with. In this case, she ultimately had four 7s left so 7^4=2401. The hardest problems to understand were the word problems. But we broke the problem down until she could finally understand. I also learned that she does well with visual aids. I demonstrated on of the problems by folding paper and she understood quickly. I will have to see if I can incorporate more visual aids in our sessions.

We reviewed for the student's trig test this Friday. The main focus tonight was on a strategy for solving each type of problem. She did really great with this section. There were only a few small questions she had, but her understanding of the unit circle will help her to be successful on this test and in future classes.
