Tutoring review by Vanessa in Pomona, CA
During this session we covered factoring, specifically using the GCF method, differences of squares, and "slip and slide." We prepared for the student's math quiz and I feel she is ready to do well. She had a positive attitude throughout the session. I included strategies for identifying the GCF if it is a number that she does not multiply too often, and I also showed her how to double check her answer. She is determined to get all A's this new grading period, and I believe she is putting forth the effort to reach her goal. Great session.

Tutoring review by Sean in Pomona, CA
In this session, we started with a journal-type assignment. The student had a decent grasp on how to approach inequalities. We ended the session by having her complete a linear equations quiz, practicing systems of equations, inequalities, slopes, perpendicular/parallel lines, and more. As we go through these problems, she is becoming more comfortable with the material and increasingly solving problems on her own.

Tutoring review by Camila in Pomona, CA
In today's session we talked a little about how the student feels in his Spanish class. He told me that he had just started a new unit and we went over some of the work that he had and went through some vocabulary. We went over some verb conjugations in the present tense and I suggested that he should practice doing that with different verbs in order to understand better how the form of the verb changes depending on the subject of a sentence. I showed him a website that I found and I thought could be helpful to use, for example, to understand the sounds that certain groups of letters do together. I realized that he has some difficulty when reading certain words because he does not know the sound that they make, therefore reviewing the website could be helpful.

Today, the students and I continued our review of the types of questions that will show up on the Verbal portion of the GRE. We went over the Sentence Equivalence questions that they had completed for homework, going through each question in lots of detail when any difficulties arose. We then moved on to discuss the Text Completion question type and strategies to employ when working through these. We went through a series of practice problems, and we went into more lengthy discussions when specific problems gave rise to difficulties.

Tutoring review by Sandy in Pomona, CA
Today the student and I talked about the algebra homework exercises involving quadratic equations for parabolas. Key concepts include the vertex, which is the highest or lowest point of the parabola, the line of symmetry, and the x and y axis intercepts. Trying to cut to the chase in math problems normally does not end well. It's always a good idea to write down every step, starting with the problem statement, to avoid simple errors like signs, and more complex errors as well. He needs to get a supply of graph paper that he can use whenever needed for math problems.
