Tutoring review by Kalea in Corrales, NM
Today we reviewed last night's homework, lesson 80, to make sure everything was making sense. The proportion problems she is doing better on. She had difficulty on one of the world problems when it gave a picture and asked to find "how many square miles" it had. At first she didn't realize this was asking her to find the area of the shape. We also did a investigation section with creating a scatterplot and answering questions about it. She seemed to understand the process for this fairly well.

Tutoring review by Patrick in Corrales, NM
This session was about reflecting on a few different things that young people never consider. The first was about their work station: how does it look? Is there a door to make it more private? Is their a television around? Another topic was about setting goals and what things would he might change in his short academic life. A third topic left for the student to look at later was a breakdown of how he thinks his weeks go. The idea is to consider how many hours in a week he feels like exist. It is a very telling activity. The motivation behind these activities is for me to get a sense of who he is as a student, as well as for him to begin the art of reflection. This is the second day in a row we met, and because of his rotating-block-hybrid schedule, he didn't have math today. Consecutive days are not part of our normal plan, so I took this opportunity to discuss these reflection activities as well as introduce the start of an organizational plan.

Tutoring review by Carol in Corrales, NM
We worked on math vocabulary for the upcoming unit. The student looked up definitions and came up with examples for each word. We reviewed the creed for Junior ROTC, and made flashcards for her to study each of the nine creeds. We discussed her studying habits and ways to help her be more successful. I requested that she have everything ready for when I come to the house with an agenda for each session. I also requested her to have reading material with her so that we can read for 20 minutes to increase fluency and comprehension.

Tutoring review by Ralph in Corrales, NM
Tonight, we decided to get into studying for the student's "book test" tomorrow. We went over several test prep questions from school about the "Shard" book. I was very pleased with his remembering the book and some details that would have seemed obscure. His comprehension was pretty good. After that, we read from The Boy who Saved Baseball. Overall, it was a good day.

In this session, the student and I continued our work on the calculator math portion of the SAT. In particular, we covered the slope intercept form of a line, mean, median, mode and range, skewed distributions, and some complex algebra simplification steps. Overall, she seemed to understand much of what we went through. We also talked about some specific ways she can get the thought process going when working in the math section. Over the weekend, she will take a full practice SAT and will hopefully put much of what we have been working on into practice.
