We went over practice problems that her mother printed out for the state test. We were only able to get through the first 10 problems, but we spent a lot of time discussing why certain answers were wrong, and solving the problems using more than one method. She is a lot better at the math. Tomorrow, we will focus on the free response questions.

We reviewed the student's algebra homework. He has started a new chapter. The new topic was multiplying and dividing fractions with polynomials. The first step was to factor each polynomial. Then we cancelled out any of the factors that we could and finished the problem by multiplying through. We talked about what the reciprocal of a number is. We also talked about how to divide fractions. We do this by flipping the divisor and multiplying it by the dividend.

The student and I went over the study guide for the upcoming test. We had a difficult time getting to all of the materials. We did cover piece functions, basic equations of parabolas, cubic equations, and absolute value equations. We also went over using the point-slope equation and graphing linear and quadratic equations. We also went over transformations and inverse functions.

Tutoring review by Robert in Albuquerque International Sunport, NM
This session, the student and I got some extra work done and reviewed Chapter 2.1, which is the next chapter in her book. This section was on problems involving inductive reasoning and conjectures. Basically, we focused on a pattern shown within a problem, and then we made up a conclusion summing up the problem's pattern. The types of homework problems we reviewed were patterns, algebraic, geometric, data, and counterexamples. Since this was a new topic, I mainly focused on doing the problems with her rather than having her figure out the problems on her own. Towards the end, I had her try some problems on her own. She completed the problems correctly. She will be very prepared for the next section tomorrow. Hopefully, with all the knowledge she learned today, tomorrow's lesson won't be repetitive and boring.

The student and I went over various topics to help solidify her studying for her final. We specifically went over compound inequalities, simplification of radicals, and some word problems. She has her final tomorrow ,so I gave her some tips on how to focus on the test, how to approach taking the test, and scoring the highest grade possible. I also gave her some areas to focus her studying. She seemed very happy at the end of our session and was very positive about taking the final.
