Many high school students around the Tucson, Arizona area, like high school students who go to University High School or Empire High School, will take the ACT as the college admissions exam of choice. Your score on the ACT will most likely play a role in college admissions decisions.
The ACT is an exam that is made up of five sections. Whether this is your first time thinking about the ACT or you're in the middle of preparing for exam day, you may be wondering how to make the most of your studying. If you are considering extra help, we can connect you with a Tucson ACT course. A Tucson ACT course could be just what you need to boost your studying skills. No matter where you are with your studying, we can guide you to studying resources that work for you.
What does a Tucson ACT course cover?
The ACT is made up of four required sections. These sections are English, Math, Reading, and Science. There is also an optional Writing section. You will have 2 hours and 55 minutes to complete the exam if you choose to opt out of the Writing section. If you choose to do the Writing section, the exam is three hours and thirty-five minutes long. We will now take a closer look into the sections so you have a better understanding of them.
The first section is English. This section is 45 minutes long and you have to answer 75 questions. You will have to manage your time wisely, as questions are based on passages you read. For most questions, you will have to make judgments as to when text needs to be revised. Some questions will be on the whole text, and others will be on a few sentences or even a few words. You will make your judgments based on grammar, structure, punctuation, style, and tone.
The next section is Math. You have to answer 60 questions within an hour. These questions measure skills you have been learning throughout your high school years. You will have to work with speed and accuracy as you only have one minute per question. You should also remember to bring a calculator for this section.
The third is the Reading section. You get 30 minutes to answer 40 questions. Like with the English section, you have to read several passages. This time, however, Identifying central ideas and themes, summarizing ideas, understanding of different types of relationships instead of analyzing the mechanics of a sentence or passage. You will also determine word and phrase meanings, differentiate between facts and opinions, and make connections between different texts. Again, you will have to use your time wisely as you are not given a lot of time for each question.
The last required section is the Science section. You will answer 40 multiple choice questions in 35 minutes. These questions test your skills in manipulating and analyzing scientific data presented in different formats. They also test you on the scientific method and on the designs of scientific investigation and experimentation. Science topics include chemistry, Earth and space sciences, biology, and physics.
The optional Writing section is 40 minutes long. You will choose one essay topic to write about. This essay should be well-written, with clear ideas and reasoning. It should also show that you have confidence in writing English. The Writing section is handwritten only, so make sure you bring extra pencils.
The ACT is a great exam for the next step to college. There are several testing dates per year in the United States. All tests start at 8:00 AM and are dismissed at 12:35 PM if you do not take the Writing Section. If you do take the Writing section, testing is done at 1:35 PM. Make sure to answer every question as there is no penalty for guessing.

I like teaching one-on-one sessions because it is an effective and rewarding learning format. I search for different ways to help my students achieve progress. The underlying, essential goal in teaching the French language is to establish in my students an ongoing interest and desire to learn. There is never a reason to get embarrassed or ashamed. I am here to help and motivate you! If there is a desire, there is a way!... I always assess where their needs and interests lay, and I encourage them in that direction, giving them plenty of tools to use.
