The ACT exam has four different required sections, with the Writing section being optional. The mandatory sections are categorized as Science, English, Math, and Reading. Each section has a set time and number of questions that are specifically tailored to each category. Your time management skills should be used wisely because you do not want to spend a longer period of time on a specific question if you have to complete several more within the time allotment. Now, let's explain the ACT exam in further detail.
What kind of ACT material might a Dallas ACT course help me understand?
On the day of the test, ACT sections may be presented to you in a different order; for now, we will explain the general topics you will be tested on within each section. The testing time, not including breaks, lasts a little less than 3 hours. The questions are presented in essay and multiple choice formats within each section. To further help you understand what is included on the ACT, we will talk about the question types and the materials covered within all four mandatory parts of the ACT. The optional Writing section will also be discussed.
The first section of the ACT we will discuss in further detail is the Science section. This section is presented in multiple-choice format and you will be tested on your current knowledge of biology, physics, Earth sciences, and chemistry. You have 35 minutes to answer 40 questions. You should consider reviewing concepts that pertain to the designs of experimentation and scientific investigation and the scientific method.
As you approach the English portion of the exam, you will have to answer 75 questions in 45 minutes that pertain to all types of different topics within the subject. Within this section, you will be faced with passage-based and multiple choice questions. You must show your understanding of the conceptions of English, including cohesiveness of written texts, style, and the use of tone in writing.
The Math section of the ACT asks you to use your prior knowledge of pre-algebra and elementary and intermediate algebra. It is wise to keep track of timing so you can pace yourself and not encounter any problems completing this section. Within the Math category, you will be tested on your understanding of geometry and trigonometry along with algebra. There are multiple concepts you need to know, such as graphing, functions, solid measurement calculations, and interpreting equations. You will be required to complete the math section of the ACT in 60 minutes and answer all 60 questions within an hour's time.
The reading portion of the ACT allows you to show your understanding of critical reading and comprehension. You will be allotted 35 minutes to answer 40 questions. You will be asked to respond to multiple choice and passage-based questions. Questions that are included within the reading section of the ACT include those that may ask you to differentiate between fact and fiction, summarize ideas found within provided written texts, and showcase your ability to understand multiple types of relationships in writing. The questions you are to answer will be based on first-year college curricula.
Now, we will discuss the optional Writing section of the exam. This section allows you to showcase your writing abilities. You will be asked to respond to one question with a time allotment of 40 minutes. This is an optional section of the exam, and you can choose not to complete it. You must provide a response to an essay question that is given to you. As you write your response, you will be required to pick one of three provided responses and make an effective connection between your point of view and one of the provided perspectives. Your Dallas ACT course can assist you in strengthening your skills so you can reach for your high score potential on the Writing section of the ACT.

Mackenzie: Dallas ACT course instructor
Hi, I'm Kenzie! I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at UT Dallas and I've been tutoring online for 4 years now. My favorite subjects to teach are math and science, but reading and writing come in a close second. ... I introduce myself and try to get a feel for what the student is struggling with in particular. I then address those questions or problems by starting at the foundations and trying to help my student get a good grasp of what they are trying to do.

...I am a biology major and neuroscience minor. Science has been my passion from a young age. I like tutoring because I sincerely enjoy helping others and being able to impart my knowledge and experience. Along with being strong in my curricular classes, I have experience helping and tutoring younger students in various subjects and test prep. As a patient and encouraging teacher, I am adept at helping others reach their educational goals.... My teaching philosophy is "work hard, play hard." It may sound childish, but I believe the brain requires balance in everything, including activities. With a strong work ethic, along with support and freedom, the tutor and student will go far.

...currently a Master's student at Cornell University. I graduated with my Bachelor's of Science from Cornell in 2016 and I plan to attend medical school in the fall of 2017. I am really excited to be tutoring for Varsity tutors because I really enjoy helping students with subjects that gave me trouble in school. I hope that my time spent developing strategies to learn and absorb the tough material can help you succeed.... I think the key to understanding is context. I remember learning dense science material in one class that only made sense after I took the next class. Once I was able to see the big picture, the smaller details started to fall into place. I try to always draw back to the big picture so that a student always understands what they are learning and how it relates to other material.

Hope: Dallas ACT course instructor
I love helping students to achieve their personal best. Through a variety of instructional strategies and understanding of the individual student's learning style, we can reach this goal together!... What is most significant is that students become independent learners through gaining confidence in their own abilities. I will help students to do this by guiding them through the learning process rather than putting too much focus on the final product. This will not only help the student to be able to practice the taught skill independently but will also prove to the student what his or her abilities truly are.
