Do you plan on working in the health field soon? Then you may need some help with a Varsity Tutors TEAS prep course. TEAS, or the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills, is an exam that measures your academic acumen. Many students who pursue a career in nursing or another health field are required to take the TEAS. Reach out to a representative to learn more about how a TEAS prep class can benefit you.
The TEAS exam contains 170 multiple-choice questions that cover four academic areas: Reading, Math, Science, and English and Language Usage. Each section contains a varying number of questions and time limits. Here they all are below in detail:
Reading | Mathematics | Science | English and Language Usage | |
Number of questions | 53 | 36 | 53 | 28 |
Time Limit(minutes) | 64 min | 54 min | 63 min |
28 min |
Specific Content Covered | Key ideas and details Craft and structure Integration of knowledge & ideas Pre-Test questions |
Numbers and algebra Measurement and data Pre-Test questions |
Human anatomy & physiology Life and physical sciences Scientific reasoning Pre-Test questions |
Conventions of standard English Knowledge of language Vocabulary acquisition Pre-Test questions |
TEAS prep courses can assist you with intensive studying on one or all of the above subjects. Because the tutoring sessions are personalized, you and your tutor can focus on whatever subjects you need the most help with. Another benefit to the one-on-one sessions is that there is always time for the tutor to address any questions you may have about the subject matter or format of the exam itself. These TEAS prep classes also enable you to learn in ways that cater to your learning preference. For example, if you learn best by listening to something, a tutor can provide audio files or read to you to try to help you understand what's troubling you. A TEAS course even lets you learn at your own pace. Maybe there are some components of reading or science that have you confused. A TEAS class tutor can assist you by conducting sessions at a slower pace. It's so wonderful that these TEAS courses allow you to receive private lessons in ways that suit you.
You have to be prepared ahead of time in order to do your best on the TEAS exam. Here's an example of a math problem you would get on the test:
Example Math problem:
5344 - 57
Simplify the expression above. Which of the following is correct?
-
- A. 5277
- B. 5283
- C. 5287
- D. 5288
Since you have to deal with 170 questions on the test, you should spend as much time as you can in TEAS classes reviewing the test sections. One way you can do that is by requesting a tutor to create practice exams for you to get some hands-on experience with math problems like the one above. (You can also request practice tests that cover other subjects.) Another way you can prepare is by creating flashcards and letting the tutor quiz you on certain concepts. If you're a little worried about the test, a tutor can offer you advice relaxation techniques to quell your nervous feelings. You can even get assistance with being organized for the test. There are certain items that you should bring (and not bring) on test day. A tutor can suggest that you make a list of those items and keep them on hand so that you wouldn't forget.
Each TEAS course offers a flexible schedule so that you can focus on your studies, as well as tend to other responsibilities. We even provide a Live Learning Platform, which allows you to speak with a tutor online through a smartphone, tablet, or computer. If you want to get started with signing up for a TEAS class, please email or call a Varsity Tutors representative, and they will be more than happy to guide you through the signup process.

Encouraging and rewarding the student's independent research and verbalization of their thoughts will stimulate independence in the learning process.... Attempt a different approach in relaying the information, while keeping in mind the student's learning style.... Allow the student to verbalize what they have read in their own words.
