To teach is to make an impact that can stretch far beyond our computer screens. I believe in teaching to transgress--that knowledge and learning can permanently elevate our place in life. I am a high school English teacher in rural Illinois. I have published op-eds, poetry, and research. Writing is my passion. I am looking forward to writing alongside you!

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every student has the potential to succeed when given encouragement, structure, and meaningful instruction. With sixteen years of experience teaching social studies, I have learned that education is most powerful when students see how it connects to their own lives. Social studies is not simply about memorizing dates, names, and events; it is about applying them to daily living to become a good citizen and lifelong learner.
I believe anyone can excel at math. It is just a matter of your learning style and once you know that, the sky is the limit.I am a civil engineer and I use math every day at work. I use it to explain and define the characteristics and behavior of surface water and flooding.I have a Certified Therapy Dog named Kuku and she only has three legs. She is retired now but we used to visit patients in the hospital to cheer them up. Of course, everyone loves Kuku.My hobbies include hiking, cooking, and knitting.

I am an experienced social studies and technology teacher, with 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience in grades 6-12 and adult education. I have two masters degrees, one in history (Chicago State University) and another in instructional design (Western Illinois University). I also have my BA in social studies education from Knox College. I have a passion for teaching and have been in online education specifically since 2013, working across all fields in the social sciences as well as general test preparation.
I am a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) with an Associate of Science in Veterinary Technology from Penn Foster College. In 2001, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Creative Writing from Western Illinois University. My most recent clinical experience was as an outpatient, ICU and ER technician at an incredibly busy 24-hour small animal hospital. I also have experience working in general practice (small animal) medicine. Currently, I'm training to become a Telehealth specialist, transitioning into the virtual/remote side of veterinary medicine. My background and education has allowed me to not only gain knowledge within veterinary medicine, but also has given me the chance to experience different work cultures and personalities. My goal is that every student I work with is able to learn new things while having fun in the process! My style of teaching is focused yet casual, and learning sessions are a judgement-free zone...as the old saying goes, there really is no such thing as a bad question! My teaching philosophy is that it's not necessary to master all skills at once; instead, let's take a step-by-step approach and ease into the more challenging content. I know that when I was working full-time in-hospital while in the veterinary technician program, I often felt overwhelmed by the material (especially when studying for the VTNE!) Believe me when I say I can 100% relate to having test anxiety! I would like to work on strategies with students that are struggling with that aspect as well. I enjoy the feeling when I can see in a student's expression that the skill or material has "clicked" for them. I have worked with students and new technician graduates in the clinical setting, and I strive to make a lasting, positive impression on each student I encounter. As each student is different, I look forward to getting to know you and figuring out a strategy together that works best for your studying needs! Additionally, my educational background in English and Creative Writing qualifies me to tutor in these areas, alongside my primary subject of veterinary technology.
I believe that the key to learning is in the conversation! Working one-on-one with students gives us both the chance to see what methods will work and what your goals are. I like to brainstorm with my students, working toward a final result together. I have a bachelor's degree in English from Loyola University Chicago, a master's degree in literature from Western Illinois University, and I'm currently getting my PhD in literature at University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. I love to read and write, and I have been teaching college composition courses since 2014. I have been helping students of all types with their writing and literacy skills since 2012. Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing video games, crafting, baking, and hanging out with my family. I hope to be able to help students achieve their academic goals!
I am a graduate of Western Illinois University and the University of Missouri. I received my Master of Arts in Information Sciences and Learning Technologies with a concentration in Library Science. Since graduation, I have worked in academic libraries, finding my passion is working directly with students improve their research skills. In my experience , when students learn how to research, they gain confidence and are more successful academically. I believe all students are capable and will adapt my teaching style to fit the students learning style. In my spare time, I enjoying camping with my dogs, reading almost anything, and photography.
