After completing my PhD in Special Education and spending a year and a half conducting research, it became very obvious to me that I am a teacher at heart. In my 20+ years in education I have worked as both a general and special education teacher in public school classrooms, district-level behavioral specialist, and state-wide consultant in the areas of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support and Autism Spectrum Disorders.I especially enjoy working with students who may find learning challenging, as I love discovering what motivates a student.I love teaching anything related to literacy and am trained in Orton Gillingham. I use books to engage students in learning key language, reading, speaking, and writing standards.I also have expertise in teaching students to self-regulate, self-monitor, and self-direct their own learning.I believe all students can learn!
My teaching philosophy is centered on patience, encouragement, and adapting to each student's learning style. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. As a tutor, I focus on building confidence while breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps. Hi I'm Tess! I'm a Mathematics major at UNC Charlotte with minors in Linguistics and Cognitive Science. I've been tutoring for 4 years now and have worked with students ranging from ages 10 to 50. My specialty is math, specifically Algebra and Trigonometry, as I have the most experience tutoring in these areas. I have experience as a teaching assistant for MATLAB and I'm also proficient in Java. No matter what subject I'm tutoring, one of my main goals with each student is to help them develop critical thinking and problem solving skills that they can apply to areas beyond what we go over in a tutoring session.
I am a mathematics teacher in my seventh year of teaching. I have been tutoring for five years. I received my Bachelors in Mathematics with a minor in Secondary Education at The University of NC at Charlotte. I received my Master's of Science in Special Education at The State University of NY at New Paltz. While I tutor a broad range of mathematics subjects, I am most passionate about Algebra 1 and Geometry. In my experience helping struggling students feel confident and comfortable with their problem-solving skills are what I am passionate about. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, baking and running.
I have a B.A. in Chemistry and Philosophy from UNCC; confusing combination, I know. I've also completed two years of post baccalaureate work in graduate level Biology. I aim to go to medical school and will be taking the MCAT in June. Needless to say, I'm a huge science fanatic and would love to share both my passion and knowledge with you.
I'm here because I want to better both the lives of my students and my own through education. The most important thing is that a tutor be patient, understanding, and clear with his student, and I strive to be all of these things with every student that I meet.
My goal is to help educate the bright minds of our future leaders. I attended college at the University of NC Charlotte and obtained a BSBA in Human Resource Management. I have been educating in the form of homeschooling my own children and tutoring others since 2009. I have taught all subjects across all grade levels, but my favorite is elementary subjects. I love that age because it is the foundation for all learning. What and how they learn in those formative years will impact their ability to absorb information in high school, college, in the work force and beyond.I teach based on each individual students learning style. We, as humans, are not all the same so we don't all learn the same. I've found that most students benefit most from a more hands on approach to learning so I try to incorporate that into lessons whenever I can.Outside of teaching, my favorite things to do are curling up with a good book or spending some time in the pool. I used to swim competitively in middle and high school and, even now, the pool is the best place for me to workout or relax and unwind. I look forward to working with you and your children.
As an IT leader in independent schools and a father of four boys, I bring a real-world understanding of how students learn and what they need to succeed. With a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from UNC Charlotte and over fifteen years in education, I've worked with students from Pre-K through 12th grade, helping them build foundational skills and confidence across academic subjects. My background gives me a distinctive tutoring edge. My Theatre degree from Boston College taught me how to read an audience, adapt in the moment, and make complex ideas accessible and engaging. My project management training from NYU shapes how I help students break down overwhelming tasks into manageable steps and build executive function skills. And my work integrating AI and technology into education means I can help students not just understand content, but develop the learning strategies and digital literacy they'll need for long-term success. Whether I'm helping a student organize their approach to a challenging assignment, build confidence in public speaking, or develop better study habits, I focus on meeting each learner where they are. I tailor my methods to individual learning styles and use my experience as both an educator and a parent to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and asking questions. My goal isn't just to help students improve their gradesit's to help them become more confident, capable learners who know how to tackle challenges on their own.
Hello! My name is Mrs. Bridget Hernandez Barreto. From Arlington Virginia raised in Charlotte North Carolina. Currently located in Charlotte, NC. In my free time I like to travel with my husband who is from Brazil. I am trilingual; I do speak English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. My educational philosophical beliefs include equal opportunity for all by creating unity and forming positive relationships. My college professor would say if we can't reach them we can't teach them. On a daily basis, it is important for me as an educator to reach and meet all my students' needs by promoting a diverse, collaborative and sound environment. We all come from diverse backgrounds and have had to overcome any obstacle faced on a daily basis to proceed. As we move above and beyond, we encounter many different challenges; challenges we may not be able to overcome, without an equal opportunity. Looking forward to being your Virtual Tutor this semester!
I am a graduate of the University of South Carolina where I obtained a B.A. in Philosophy and am currently enrolled at the University of North Carolina Charlotte seeking a B.S. in Mathematics. I often find that the students are a lot smarter than they think. In my off time I enjoy reading, hiking, running, and watching the Carolina panthers. I love puzzles and riddles and have solved many different Rubik's cubes.
Writing has always appealed to me as one of the few ways to share who you really are with someone else. To be able to do this more accurately, to more precisely convey who you are is a goal I believe to be worth pursuing.
I am a graduate of University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Math and a Bachelor of Arts in German, with University Honors and Mathematics Honors. Currently, I am pursuing my Doctorate in Mathematics from North Carolina State University, and I love every second of it. Math is a huge passion of mine, only matched by my love for teaching and tutoring. I believe that everyone can do math, and helping students realize that is why I do what I do. Math is exciting and useful, and I think it isn't always portrayed that way in the classroom. I hope to bring that side of math out in one-on-one tutoring. When I'm not working or studying, I love to watch movies and read all kinds of books, though classics and fantasy are my favorite.
I am passionate about helping students build confidence with reading and writing, as well as the critical thinking practice that comes naturally with the progression of those skills. I have worked with young adults of all levels and from all walks of life, and I look forward to helping you meet your goals, no matter what they may be!

Hi! I'm a full-time tutor based on Denver, CO. I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Psychology, and I worked as a high school math teacher for two years before switching to one-on-one tutoring. I am from Ypsilanti, Michigan and graduated from Hampton University with a bachelors of arts in political science, and University of Phoenix with a master's of business administration. I also graduated from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte with a post-master certification in school administration and currently work as a dean of students at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. I have been in education, around the country, for over 20 years in various roles, serving in other educational capacities such as department chair, team leader and principal. He has worked for the U.S. House of Representatives and on several state and local campaigns. The most important moment in a teacher's life is when the "ah-ha" moment occurs with a student. That moment is the one that I have lived to see over and over again. When I see that moment in the face or eyes of my student, I know my job in nearly completed.I have taught many different course over my career along with some ELA, and business courses as well as physical education. My main course of studies was the discipline of social studies, including but not limited to United States History or American History, World History, Civics and Economics or Government, World Geography, and African American Studies. My focus is on helping students understand American government and American history. I try to tie in specific contribution of the many different communities and cultures that have made up the United States to help make clear the many contributions that went into making the country what it is today. My teaching philosophy is to start in a lecture format to set up the background of the lesson and then expand to a conversation where all parties can contribute to the discussion as we learn how and why situations and concepts evolved as they did. I will present information and ask for feedback to what we are learning and why it matters. As we get further along, I will ask students to help present the lesson as to bring about ownership of the subject so can all learn together.
My goal is to show everyone I teach their full potential. I want to help build confidence and make learning fun again.
Hello, My name is Ashreema. I am currently an Engineer with an Aerospace Company. I have years of tutoring experience and it is one of my favorite things to do!
I graduated from UNC Charlotte in May of 2015 with a B.S. in Mathematics. I am currently enrolled in Graduate School working on a Master's in Information Technology.I am currently employed as a math tutor at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC where I tutor in courses including k-12 math, pre-calculus, algebra, calculus I and II, and Trigonometry.I have been tutoring in Math since my high school years. I have experience tutoring from elementary math up to college level math. I was employed at UNC Charlotte as a Math tutor and teacher's assistant for over 3 years as well as previous employment as a tutor..What makes me stand out as a tutor is my patience and ability to make students feel comfortable. Patience goes a long way when teaching a frustrated student. Being understanding of a student who is having difficulty picking up a concept, not displaying signs of frustration, and a willingness to repeat an explanation or finding a new way to explain a topic are key elements to being a good tutor. Helping others learn makes me feel as though I am making a small but significant difference.Math has always been my favorite subject! I love learning new concepts and helping others learn as well. I have a strong passion for Math and I believe that, even if it is irrelevant to one's future career, Math is used in daily life and helps to build analytical and critical thinking skills; therefore, I believe Math should be taught and learned by all.
I was born in Colombia and moved to the United States at a young age where I grew up in a Spanish-speaking household. I attended Spanish classes every Saturday to master my grammar, orthography, and pronunciation. By the time I got to high school, I had learned virtually all I could, so I took four semesters of French instead.I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with University Honors, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in French, German, and International Studies. As an undergraduate student, I spent two semesters abroad-- one in Lyon, France and one in Berlin, Germany, where I developed my language competencies.Upon return, I was accepted into an Early Entry graduate program, which I completed in Translating in Spanish, French, and German.During my graduate studies, I was recruited as a bilingual data consultant for Wells Fargo, where I contribute Spanish translation, guidance, and quality control to develop artificial intelligence through natural language processing. On the side, I also work as a Spanish interpreter for two regional language service agencies, facilitating communication between Spanish speakers and medical providers, community staff, and law enforcement officials to ensure mutual understanding, cultural sensitivity, and confidentiality. You'll notice the subjects I tutor are primarily foreign language related, since those are my areas of expertise in terms of education, experience, and passion.Prior to joining Varsity Tutors, I tutored children ages 3-5 to develop basic French vocabulary and sentence structure.I believe all students have natural gifts and aptitudes as well as curiosity. As a tutor, I feel it is my duty to help them identify their natural talents and nurture their love of learning, so that they learn the joy of it instead of viewing it as a chore. In my spare time, I enjoy a variety of leisure activities, like reading, playing sports, and traveling.

I have recently completed my 25th year in education, with experience in teaching and intervention from kindergarten to grade 6 in addition to graduate study in curriculum design and educational leadership. After exploring different opportunities, including administration, curriculum design, and curriculum coaching, I have rediscovered my love for teaching and interaction with students. I struggled with mathematics as a student because I am an analytical thinker and it was not until I learned how to teach mathematics developmentally that I understood where my teachers had failed me. I made it my personal mission to never miss an opportunity to help a student connect to mathematical knowledge in a meaningful way and to develop multiple paths to understanding so that each one of my students will have the opportunity to interact with content in a way that makes sense to them. I have a passion for fostering developmental thinking in mathematics and believe that the way to excellence is building a strong foundation in number sense and multiple paths to knowledge. The way to understand mathematics is to do mathematics, breaking through the barriers of what a student thinks they should know and drilling down to find the obstacles that are holding them back from true understanding.

I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Belmont Abbey College in 2014. Recently, I received my Master of Science degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Throughout this time, I was able to gain invaluable experience engaging students one on one and in a classroom setting. For two years, I worked as a lab instructor at UNC-Charlotte where I taught labs for genetics and general biology. I quickly found that teaching, and particularly working with students one on one, is a passion of mine. Whether the student is advanced in the subject or is heavily struggling with the basics, I greatly enjoy working individually with them to guide them towards improved academic performance. I fully believe that no two students are exactly alike and therefore my teaching approaches can not be exactly alike for every student. This philosophy of being flexible in my methods of engaging students enables me to get the most from every student. I am very passionate about teaching many areas of the biological sciences including cell biology, physiology, immunology, microbiology, and molecular biology. Outside of academics I enjoy going to the gym, hiking, and supporting my favorite sports teams.
My goal is to help you not only understand the material but also gain confidence in your abilities. I believe that learning should be engaging, supportive, and tailored to your unique strengths. Feel free to ask questions, share your thoughts, and let me know how I can best support you.
