There is no better feeling than helping a young child understand a new concept or gain a new skill. I have been in the field of Education for over 30 years and have enjoyed every minute of it and look forward to working with children online to help them succeed!

I am a graduate student in Chicago studying occupational therapy. I recently finished my undergraduate studies in Psychology and English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During breaks from school, I am a substitute teacher for a local high school district. I also tutor students online in English and Psychology. Looking forward to tutoring through Varsity Tutors!
I earned both my BA and my MA in French and Francophone Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I tutored various subjects as a volunteer with the NBC Homework Hotline, and I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to teach French for 2 years while earning my Master's. I am very passionate about learning and teaching foreign languages, and I hope to share that with my students. In my experience students particularly enjoy (and benefit from) learning and exploring new cultures while learning the language itself. As the child of a teacher I am a strong believer in the importance of education and all of the opportunities it offers to students. I finished my MA in May with a thesis on French fairy tales, but I also enjoy reading as much as I can, spending time with my family, and neighborhood trivia tournaments.
I'm passionate about making a positive impact in the world, starting with helping others succeed in their academic journeys. I discovered this drive as a tutor during my undergraduate studies, where I experienced the fulfillment of guiding others to grow and achieve. My goal is to create a supportive and engaging space where students feel safe to challenge themselves, enjoy learning, and develop confidence. I currently tutor in Math and Computer Sciencesubjects I'm deeply connected to through my Bachelor's in Computer Engineering and my ongoing Master's in Computer Science. I love solving puzzles and programming, and I aim to pass on this enthusiasm to every student I help, inspiring them to find joy in the process of learning and discovery.
Are you seriously interested in improving your grades and test scores? Probably so, since you are here, but do you know that improvement can be easier than you think? It is often simply a matter of learning a set of skills. I am a graduate of UCLA with degrees in French and Russian and studies in Spanish and German, but I have a broad background that also includes work in Mathematics and ESL. In addition to my college degrees, I have teaching certificates from the state of California in Mathematics (up to Calculus II or A.P. Calculus BC), English, and Multiple Subjects. I have extensive experience working with foreigners in China, S. Korea, Japan and Russia teaching Calculus and Pre-Calculus, Literature, ESL, and SAT and TOEFL preparation. Let's get together and I'll teach you what you need to succeed in your classes.
Hi, my name is Michelle and I would love to help you on your learning journey. My focus at Varsity Tutors is Public Speaking and English. In my career as a sustainability consultant and adjunct professor (Northwestern University), I've had many opportunities to give presentations ranging from elevator speeches to workshops, and 3-hour college courses. Content, structure, and delivery are all important parts of effective public speaking, and also for writing. I'm active in Toastmasters, and have been awarded the highest education level, Distinguished Toastmaster. I have a passion for teaching and want to be a resource for students rather than teacher that relies on rote memorization. I would like to help build your skills of self-observation and self-reflection. Let me be your partner in learning.

I am currently an undergraduate student who is part of the Honors College at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I am pursuing a Bachelors in Science Degree in Neuroscience with a Minor in Music. I am available to tutor students in a large variety of subjects , but I especially enjoy serving as a tutor for mathematics or science-related disciplines. In the past, I have had 2-3 years of experience (online and in-person) tutoring numerous high school students in disciplines as Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Biology, and Chemistry. Even when not formally serving as a tutor, I have always felt inclined to provide other students with advice concerning time management skills and studying tips to ensure their prospective academic success.I also enjoy to serve as a test-prep tutor, particular for the ACT and various AP tests. I believe these tests have large implications upon determining one's aptitude for success in college, and, thus, I believe that their importance should not be undermined. Personally, I have also participated as a student in ACT-prep classes to become better educated on useful test-taking strategies and tips. Relatedly, I am also willing to provide advice to younger high school or middle school students regarding how to adapt to college academics, or, in more general terms, college life.As a tutor, I believe it is most vital to be persistent and patient when helping other students. I strive to employ a more independent-tutoring approach, in which I attempt to help a student as sparingly as possible as to allow a student to arrive at a solution mostly on his/her terms. For me, learning and problem-solving require individual insight and reasoning, and, thus, my job as a tutor will encompass helping a student comprehend basic/underlying conceptual principles so that the student can arrive at an answer as independently as possible. Additionally, as a tutor, I will impart knowledge stressing the importance of time management and balancing skills on academic prosperity, and, also, I will attempt to make learning more enjoyable by connecting what a student is being taught to real-world applications. In my spare time, I enjoy watching and playing baseball and tennis, singing, playing the Alto Saxophone, playing the Guitar, and going to the movies.

I have completed my bachelors in biomedical engineering and am now pursuing my doctorate in medicine. My aspirations to be an education-centered physician are in large part guided by my tutoring experiences. Each person deserves a great and meaningful education! I had such a great time earning my BA in English Literature from Butler University, as well as attaining my M.Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. All of this was due to committed and memorable teachers! As a result, I was inspired to become an educator. As a teacher, my job is to help students tap into their incredibly unique potential. This means that I will work to help students complete their assigned material with their previously gained knowledge and current, relevant interests.Who wants to learn something that doesn't seem to matter, or is uninteresting? No one.I hope to make your tutoring experience positive, enjoyable and well worth your time.Living is learning.
I am a graduate of The Monmouth College where I received a Bachelor's of Arts in Biochemistry. Currently, I attend The University of Illinois at Chicago in pursuit of my Doctor of Pharmacy. While at Monmouth I was involved in various tutoring/teaching positions. I served as the supplemental instructor of analytical chemistry, teaching assistant for general chemistry, and cadaver dissection team member. Through the experience of being a student and a tutor, I have learned the unique challenges the science student encounters. As a student athlete in both high school and college, I understand the difficulties of time management and the importance of maintaining success in the classroom. Attending a small college allowed my passion for biology and chemistry to flourish through the close relationships I made with my peers and professors. I bring this hands-on approach I was given in my undergrad to my students by pinpointing their exact needs to ensure material is not just memorized, but understood. Outside of my science pursuits I enjoy reading, hiking, and exploring my city of Chicago.
I am a passionate problem solver and constant learner excited to help create connections, and convey concepts to those in need. I enjoy working with people to make measurable positive changes in their assessments.
I am currently a freshman neuroscience major at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the B.S./M.D. GPPA Medicine Program. I enjoy working with students of all ages ranging from early elementary school to seniors in high school. In my free time I enjoy reading, running, camping, and exploring the great city of Chicago.
Highly experienced multimedia arts professional with in-depth knowledge of page layout, illustration, photo-retouching programs, web development and photography and film. Able to direct all aspects of design and production of multiple projects under tight deadlines while keeping a sharp eye on expense controls and profitability. Ability to market, inform and educate end-users the benefits of a project.
In all the roles that I have played so far in my life, two words sum all my experiences: lifelong learner. As a lifelong learner, I am not only constantly learning about becoming the best teacher I can be, but also the best daughter, sister, partner, friend, etc. I want to be able to encourage others to then overcome obstacles that prevent them from being the best that they can be; sometimes, we all just need another person to talk to in order to process and find a solution for our struggles in life. I want to then help you become a better you!
As a future special education teacher and current substitute teacher, I am excited to become a tutor with Varsity Tutors. I am currently enrolled in the MEd + Licensure special education program at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and am set to begin my studies in August of 2017.My background includes working as a substitute teacher during the 2016-2017 school year for multiple districts in Columbus, OH. These districts were urban, suburban, and rural in nature. I served as a substitute teacher in both general and special education classrooms at the elementary, middle, and high school level. In addition, I accepted two long-term assignments throughout the year; one in a special needs preschool classroom, and another in a math and reading resource room at the 3rd-5th grade level.Previously, while earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology, I worked as a tutor in the athletic department at West Virginia University. I conducted both individual and small group sessions, and created written study materials for my students. In my free time, I volunteered in a special needs Transition classroom at the University, and worked at a recreation center for individuals with disabilities in the Morgantown area.I am excited to be in the Chicagoland region and work in the urban setting. I am fully committed to working with a diverse group of students from many backgrounds and of all abilities. I believe my past experience and my dedication to education make me an ideal tutor!
Im currently an undergraduate bioengineering student at UIC minoring in economics and set to begin graduate work next fall. Before transferring to UIC I attended Augustana College and pursued degrees in physics and environmental studies. I hold excellent interpersonal and math skills and am good at explaining as well as doing math problems which in my opinion is somewhat of a rarity among science and math teachers. Throughout my youth I coached a swim team and have always gained an immense satisfaction from helping others. Tutoring is a win-win situation for both parties. The student becomes fluent and develops interest in a subject they have struggled with in the past and I gain from helping them improve and succeed. I like to make learning fun and strive to make the information relatable to my students. This way we can become excited about the subjects which makes learning that much easier. Mostly I am interested in tutoring math and math-related subjects including economics. Throughout sessions I will always try to convey exactly how important it is to learn the information, because like it or not, even if the student is not interested in learning, I want to convey that in life we often are forced into tasks that are not always enjoyable. Whats important is to persevere and understand that there is no other option but to complete the task or learn the material and we can only gain from giving it our best effort. During free time I enjoy reading The Economist magazine, playing table tennis and badminton, and eating Thai food. Thank you for your time.
I am currently a student at the University of Missouri Kansas City as a part of their 6 year direct medical program. Medicine is my passion, and I'm thrilled that we are able to interview patients in the hospital and learn from them very early on in the process. The best teachers I've ever had have been more than just adults. They were passionate about the material they taught, and that passion was carried over to me. That is the main thing I hope to show students. A passion that will help them understand the material better. One of my favorite parts of tutoring is getting to know the students' learning style and how they think. The best part is that I have just recently taken all the subjects I have listed to tutor in. The information is fresh in my mind, so I can approach the content from many different angles to help the student understand the material.Outside of school, I spend a lot of my time at Buffalo Wild Wings, hands down the best wings I have ever eaten. Consequently, I also spend a lot of my time exercising - usually swimming or weightlifting.
I am a graduate of University of Illinois at Chicago where I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Education. Since graduation, I have experienced many wonderful teaching and tutoring opportunities. Currently, I teach writing, grammar, British Literature, and Contemporary Literature at one of the oldest alternative high schools in the nation. I began teaching Survey of Literature and American Literature at the high school level ten years ago. I also taught British Literature and World Literature in a "No Child Left Behind" evening school program. My tutoring experiences throughout the years have been fun and interesting. In college, I was a part time tutor for our university's tutoring center, tutoring other college students and helping them with their language and writing skills. I have also participated in various after-school tutoring programs and standardized-test tutoring programs. Education is important to me, and it is important to always keep in mind the skill levels of every diverse learner I work with. After all, if students don't learn the way we teach, then we need to teach them the way they learn. I'm an extremely positive and enthusiastic person not only as an educator but as a person in general. In my spare time, I enjoy walking, cooking, throwing boomerangs, reading, and playing backgammon.
I am a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago and will be attending medical school in August 2016 to pursue my dream of becoming a pediatrician. I received my Bachelor of Sciences in Biological Sciences and graduated with College Honors, Highest Departmental Distinction in the Biological Sciences Department, and from my university's Honors College. I am very passionate about tutoring after my experience volunteering as a tutor for patients at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital. Throughout my volunteer experience, I have been able to help tutor a wide variety of age groups ranging from pre-school to high school students and across a wide array of subjects with a primary focus on math and science. In addition, during college, I greatly enjoyed tutoring my fellow peers across different science subjects. Between the math and science subjects I have tutored, my favorite is chemistry. This is because I have personally experienced how daunting and complex chemistry can be at first. However, by gaining a strong understanding in the theoretical background, having the right mindset, and through practice, chemistry can become easy to understand and conquer and I greatly enjoy seeing students become confident in that subject. The most vital aspect of tutoring is being able to identify the student's strongest study skills and having them give their best by being patient, compassionate, and understanding. Although science and math courses can be rigorous, I like employing methods that make these complex subjects more simple to understand by utilizing visuals, mnemonics, and different problem solving strategies. I currently work as a neuroscience research assistant and my research focuses on trying to better understand how long-term memory and learning is employed in the adult brain. Thus, I am greatly interested in recognizing the best learning methods for my students. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, traveling, running, reading, watching movies, and spending time with my family and friends.
I love to learn and help others. Empathy, caring, and genuineness are noteworthy traits, without judging others. I am thankful to Pursue the Path of the Heart to seek meaning and a career pathway, as I have just completed a new degree, a Psy D. (Doctorate). I am also thankful to have completed a second Master's Degree in Counseling, (4.0 GPA) and inducted to Chi Sigma Iota (National Honor Society). Professionalism within the educational community at UIC, working as a guidance counselor, a therapist, a teacher, and working with the business community has afforded me opportunities to gain much valuable experience in assisting people from all walks of life, while respecting the dignity of others. There is a story of a young man who was walking along a beach, picking up starfish and throwing them back into the ocean. A man approached the youth and inquired as to why he is throwing the starfish back into the ocean. The youth looked at the man, holding the starfish in his hand, and threw the starfish back into the ocean. The youth said to the man, "it makes a difference to this one." Each person is precious.

I am an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois at Chicago working toward a dual degree in french and biological sciences. I am pre-vet, so I love animals and pets! I have been studying the french language and culture for several years now and I absolutely adore it!I am a firm believer in the fact that understanding the culture is just as important as the language itself. Also, practice really does make perfect! Everyone learns differently, so my goal is to help you figure out how you learn best so that we can use it!I also have a strong science background which includes chemistry, biology, and math.
I am a 4th year medical student in Chicago. I completed by bachelors in Biology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In my free time, I enjoy playing sports. I worked as a tutor during my undergraduate studies and enjoy teaching.
I am a medical student at Midwestern University starting in August 2017. I recently graduated Midwestern University with a Masters degree in Biomedical sciences. Additionally, I attended University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), where I received my Bachelors of Sciences degree in Biology. My expertise lies in the field of sciences, however I have vast amount of knowledge in wide array of subjects including elementary math, pre-algebra, algebra and American History, with a particular emphasis in the American Revolution time period. I have worked with many different types of students ranging from middle schoolers, high schoolers and even some graduate level students. My philosophy behind tutoring is that everyone is capable of learning, however not all students learn the same way. Each student must have an educational plan tailored to their strengths and needs in order to truly be successful. I pride myself in being able to work with different age groups, because it allows me to approach each student from a different perspective. Based off my previous experiences, I have found one-on-one tutoring to be a quite joyful experience for me, because I truly love teaching and it does not get any better then helping a student overcome a complicated topic.
Hi, my name is Sydney Turner. I went to the University of Illinois at Chicago for undergrad and got my Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science in May 2020.
I want to use my knowledge and skills to help students understand and do well in STEM classes, as well as be prepared for standardized exams, including the AP exams and the ACT. I think every individual learns differently, so my biggest goal is to individualize every session to the best approach for each student. Anyone I tutor, I am fully invested in their progress and growth, so I care that all the material learned really clicks, makes sense, and is applicable. In addition to standardized exams, I also can help with college admissions, including editing essays.
Graduated (James Scholar Honors) from the University of Illinois in Engineering Physics and have a Masters in Physics from the same institution. Retiring from industry 2008 I began teaching part-time at the local community college and have been doing so ever since, teaching passionately physics and math. My aim is to give students a good understanding and appreciation of a subject whether a course is in their career field or an elective. During my career in industry, I had become interested in display monitor technology for education and worked leading to development of high-definition display screens. I hold 22 issued patents and many peer reviewed publications. We formed a small company which has produced display products for over 30 years and did joint Research and Development internationally.
I am currently a junior at University of Chicago. My major is Biomedical Engineering. I have an experience in tutoring and I passionate to help my students in Math and Science. I personally love these two subjects and I want others to also understand and enjoy these subjects. I want to help students better achieve their educational goals.
As both a student and an employee, I have been involved in higher education for over twenty years. I earned my bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago (English-Writing), my master's degree from Regis University (Nonprofit Management), and currently hold a college administrative position by day. For a number of years now, I have enjoyed tutoring students in middle school, high school, and college on test preparation (primarily the verbal/reading/writing sections for ACT, SAT, PSAT, HSPT), as well as essay and speech writing. I have a passion for the written word because I feel it is often times the best way to communicate - a way to express our thoughts and feelings in an organized and structured manner, in our own voice and within our control.
I graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. In the 35+ years since graduating from college, I have used my engineering, science, and math skills in two ways, primarily as a full time Chemical Engineer helping large corporations manufacture chemicals and fuels, and also as a part time teacher, teaching high school algebra, geometry and chemistry. I found teaching much more rewarding than working as a Chemical Engineer because it affects the lives of the next generation.Since I was a child I have always loved science. I loved science class in elementary school and biology and chemistry in high school. But I did not love math until seventh grade when our math teacher made math seem easier and more enjoyable. After that, I excelled at math through high school (algebra 1 and 2, trigonometry, analytical geometry) and college (college algebra, 4 semesters of calculus, and differential equations). I had the highest math grade point average in my community college where I took all my college math courses. I credit my junior high math teacher with me becoming an engineer. In a similar way, I would love to help young people at not only doing better at math and science, but at excelling in these subjects, in their future careers and in life in general.I am currently tutoring general math, general science, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry and Chemistry. I like tutoring rather than teaching because I can work at the student's pace until he or she catches on, without being concerned with ignoring the other students. My favorite subject to tutor is algebra because I have found in my career and in my personal life that algebra has been the most practical and useful.
Hello! My name is Umer. I am a student at the University of Illinois at Chicago majoring in Mathematics and Classical Studies (Double Major). I am also certified through Cambridge University's CELTA program to teach ESL/EFL students.I look forward to teaching ESL students in the near future. Right now, I am gaining experience for my long term goal of moving to Cairo, Egypt to teach.
I became a tutor because I know exactly what it's like to struggle in the classroom. As someone who always needed extra help as a student, I developed a deep empathy for learners who don't catch on right away. I am passionate about helping others overcome academic challenges, and I always go above and beyond to ensure my students get the dedicated, patient support they need to succeed. No matter where you're starting from, we can figure it out together.
I am a student enrolled as a biological sciences major along with an art minor. I have tutored 60 to 70 students every week aging from 3.5 year olds to 14 year olds in English and math.
I am a peer mentor in the dorms at UIC. I tutor freshmen for geometry, algebra, and General Chemistry classes at the high school and college levels. I like to read and play the piano as well as attend church events and services.
Throughout my career, I have been teaching others how to improve one's self by reading, learning new techniques, and applying new methods.I like to teach young adults and adults in general who have being left behind and out of school for several years. Individuals who work hard and now are looking for an opportunity to advance their present conditions through education and training. I would like to guide them so that they could be able to combine their experiences and the new acquired education to articulate a vision and set concrete goals for improving their future. Because It is through education and the setting of goals and objectives that most people become empowered to continue furthering their education, professional development, and improving their lives. In addition, I want to teach and help participants develop the needed critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to adapt to the constant changes of the social and economic conditions. This is what education and learning another language can do.
I am a 4th year English teacher with a B.A in Teaching of English in Secondary Education. Missing my comfort zone, I found my way back into the classroom. I taught middle school Writing at a high-paced charter school for a year.
