I am certified to teach early childhood to sixth grade in all subjects and 7-12 for English Language Arts. I have taught English for 5th-10th grade, social studies/history for 6th-9th, and humanities for 6th-9th. I have spent the last several years working with students from a myriad of backgrounds and cultures in Houston, until I moved away in 2021. 90% of my students were English Language Learners. I pride myself on my ability to meet the diverse needs of my students. Through reading and writing my students are taught to express themselves. Ultimately, it is my goal to help my students grow into empathetic, engaged, and culturally literate young men and women who can effectively communicate their thoughts and feelings in a variety of ways. My philosophy on education is informed by my experience working in International Baccalaureate and Montesssori Schools, where I cultivated a classroom driven on student choice and project based learning. I am a big proponate of the Reader and Writer Workshop system of teaching literacy; targeting students' individual needs by guiding them to choose books that will pique their interest and bolster their confidence. I have worked with kids with dyslexia, 504 accomodations, ADHD, and ASD from EC-10th grade. I believe every child has the potential to be a successful scholar. Some just need some additonal guidance to unlock that potential.

I am a graduate of University of Houston-Downtown with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. After graduating, I received my teacher certification from Texas Teachers of Tomorrow. I am certified in Core Subjects EC-6, ESL EC-12, and English 7-12. I spent my first two years in an intermediate school teaching 6th grade Science and Social Studies and then a year teaching 5th grade Reading. For my third and fourth years of teaching, I moved up to 7th grade Reading. I have experience teaching a wide variety of students from English language learners, SPED, to the academically advanced. While teaching, I went to school online at Grand Canyon University where I received a Master of Science in Instructional Design. I love to read so this is where my passion lies in teaching. I have found that students have the most trouble with reading comprehension, test type questions, and writing constructed responses. They struggle with developing their critical thinking from the "what" to the "why". It is my goal to help students dive deeper into stories to develop their reading and writing abilities.

As a future MBA student myself, I will be tutoring my assigned subjects by creating a beneficial environment for the students and myself. I graduated from the university of Oklahoma with a BS in chemical engineering and also acquired a certificate in project management. I plan on pursuing an MBA in the near future. During my junior and sophomore years in college, I tutored algebra, pre-calculus and biology at the freshman level. This, I believe, will enable me to prepare SAT/ACT students and freshman students for their necessary exams effectively.
