I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor Classical Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington, and after teaching high school English for three years, I earned a Master of Arts in English from the University of Dallas. During and after earning my MA, I tutored in a community college writing center and taught credit and non-credit college English classes. I recently returned from South Korea, where I taught ESL classes to a wide range of students, elementary-aged to adult. I have experience teaching in both classroom and private settings, and I delight in helping students reach their goals and find their voices in order to better express themselves in both speaking and writing.

I homeschooled for my whole education up to college, which allowed me to finish Calculus III before graduating high school. Currently, I attend University of Dallas, where I am studying for a math/science degree.I tutor for all middle and high school math, as well as for standardized tests like the ACT and SAT. I am very patient, and I enjoy working with students. When I tutor a student, I try to discover the root of the problem, usually a misunderstood or inadequately explained concept. Once I find the problem area, I can explain it as clearly and as simply as possible. If the student doesn't "get" the explanation the first time, I am willing to spend as much time on the concept as the student needs. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano, making and playing video games, and spending time with my friends (often to discuss geeky subjects). If I sound like a good fit for you, or if you want to know more, I encourage you to contact me.

After graduating with a BA in English from the University of Dallas and a Master of Arts from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, I went on to teach classes of 6-11th grade students at Trivium Preparatory Academy for 3 years in English, Writing, and Math. I also tutored students individually for all sections of the SAT and ACT during my time there, and I have continued to do so for the past year with Varsity Tutors. I love teaching English and Literature because I have a passion for storytelling, and I enjoy teaching Math and Grammar because of their rational nature and the enjoyment that comes from solving logic puzzles. When I am not teaching, I enjoy going to the movies, spending time with my five younger brothers and sisters, and volunteering within MENSA. I believe that learning can always be made fun and is extremely rewarding when you put in the work. I look forward to sharing my love of all these subjects with you as a future student, and I look forward to meeting you!

We all need a little help now and then.Common education does a decent job of imparting information, but different people sometimes need a different approach, a little push, supplemental explanation or special practice so that they can truly understand and succeed with a subject... and in life. Part of my tutoring process is to listen and discern what is really at the root of the student's learning challenges. Sometimes it turns out that the real problem isn't the subject at all, but the way it is being taught, a lack of study time or space, or even a completely unrelated frustration. My goal is to help people strengthen their study habits and deepen their thinking skills so that they can grow in true understanding and experience success. This usually means not providing direct answers, but helping the student learn how to find the answer on his own.My areas of strength include:- Philosophy (including ethics, logic, critical thinking and rhetoric)- Theology and Religion (especially Catholic/Christian)- Writing (essays, project papers and theses; creative, research and persuasive styles)- Physics and Natural Sciences- Mathematics (pre-algebra, algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, etc.)- Computer Science and Engineering- General test preparation, especially ACT, PSAT and SAT- Developing good study habitsOf these, philosophy is my favorite subject by far.I work best with teens and older, have been doing so since about 1990, and am presently an adjunct faculty member at Chemeketa Community College. I prefer to meet in person with people who are in or near McMinnville, OR, especially if we are working from your textbooks. For clients more than 20 miles away, we can meet half-way, you are welcome to come to my office (or another location of your choosing), or we can meet online by video-chat. E-mail or telephone can work, too, depending on the subject.I have received the following degrees and certifications:- Master of Arts in Philosophy from Holy Apostles College and Seminary- Master of Theological Studies from University of Dallas- Bachelor of Science in Physics and Engineering (double major) from Seattle Pacific University- Online Teaching, MOOC Development, and Philosophical Counseling certificationsWhen I'm not working from home or caring for my family, I'm usually found at my gym where I teach physical fitness and self-defense. I also enjoy woodworking, writing, and various martial arts.

Hi! I am a seasoned educator and tutor with a Ph.D. in Literature, an M.A. in Literature, and an M.B.A. in international business. I have taught many, many students to write, read, speak, and think academically. Since 2005, I have worked taught in universities in China, Bosnia, the UAE, Afghanistan and Bahrain (teaching our troops!) and Cambodia. I recently returned to the USA. If you are feeling uncertain about your writing assignments, your English or Literature courses, public speaking, or standardized testing, I believe I can help! No one is born with the ability to read, think critically, and write an essay that will get people to stand up and take notice. These are skills that everyone must be taught to become successful, and they can be learned. Students often think they 'just aren't capable' of improving their skills, but as a professional who specializes in English and Writing, I know they are wrong. Every student, with the right motivation, systems, and tools can improve their skills. I have been teaching and tutoring students for over 20 years. As a professor, I know what steps students need to take to become better in writing, reading, literature, critical thinking, and public speaking. As a faculty member at universities and colleges for over 20 years, I know what will be expected of students both in educational settings, and in the professional world after they graduate. I love to work with students, and I have had a great deal of success in helping them to improve. I have developed proven methods to give students the help they need to write better essays, read with greater comprehension, and test more effectively. Most students tell me that I am funny, and that my lessons are far less 'painful than they expect them to be! I look forward to working with you-

I am in the process of transitioning careers from an attorney to a high school social studies teacher. I plan to start teaching in the fall. I have a rich background in a rigorous liberal arts education thatwould enable me to tutor in a diverse range of subjects, as well as guide students to think more critically, read more closely, and write more crisply and powerfully. My legal education and experience have further enhanced these skills. Most importantly, I love learning and have come realize that it is my vocation to share and impart that love of learning in others. As beautifully put by Roman Stoic philosopher Seneca in his moral epistles: "[P]art of the joy in learningis that it puts me in a position to teach; nothing, however outstanding and however helpful, will ever give me any pleasure if the knowledge is to be for my benefit alone. If wisdom were offered me on the one condition that I should keep it shut away and not divulge it to anyone, I should reject it. There is no enjoying the possession of anything valuable unless one has someone to share it with."

I am originally from sunny San Diego, California. Back in high school I was a tri-sport athlete playing volleyball, basketball and track for my school. My Senior year I was named the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.I moved to Texas about four years ago to attend college, where I continued my passion for playing sports. I was a college athlete, playing both volleyball and running track. Furthermore, I was a SCAC Student Athlete and either on Honor Roll or Dean's List every semester in my undergraduate career. I double majored in college, earning my B.A. in both Psychology and Spanish from the University of Dallas. I am currently attending the University of Houston to pursue my Masters degree and (hopefully) my Doctorate in Counseling Psychology. In my spare time, I like to play guitar, and I am currently looking into finding a Krav Maga studio near me so I can start taking that again. Also, I love to play with my little 5 pound puppy, Teagan.

Hello, there! I'm Toni, a college English professor looking to help you better engage with your learning interests! As a professor, my teaching style emphasizes active learning as a central component, aiming to make my classes more centered on students discovering the material and constructing their own knowledge. In teaching and tutoring, I see myself more as a facilitator of learning who provides students the necessary tools and direction for them to uncover the concepts themselves. Soon we will engage in this process of discovery together! Before becoming a college professor, of course, I had to go to college myself. I graduated from the University of Dallas in Irving, first with my bachelor's in English and a concentration in Latin, and then later with a master's in English. I also attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where I earned my second master's in English. It was during graduate school that I first began tutoring, and shortly after I left SMU, I began teaching. Since then, I have taught English at the college level, especially composition and British literature.Through my work as a professor and a tutor, I have had the opportunity to work with students from diverse backgrounds, different age groups, and differing levels of achievement in their academic pursuits. As a professor, I teach in one of the largest and most culturally diverse community colleges in Texas, where my students range in age from dual enrollment high school students to retirees seeking a challenge. In my tutoring, I have worked with students from pre-school aged students to adult professionals on topics from test prep for the SAT or GRE, to simply reading and writing, as well as Latin, history, social studies, and more.Every student can succeed, as long as they are given appropriate support. With my tutoring, I hope to offer that support so students stay motivated, stay focused, and achieve their goals. Soon enough, that student will be you!
