Hello. Bom dia. Ola. Bonjour to everyone.I would like to welcome you to this little piece of me. I truly am excited that you are reading this. My avatar cant be as excited as I am!I want to share a few things about me that might help us understand each other better. As the eldest in my family, I put even more pressure on myself to do better than great than my parents did. I have been an energetic goofball all of my life and learned to be an effective scholar and charismatic companion at the same time. Seriously, I was (well maybe still am) the class clown since kindergarten. I always performed well in class and in physical education. My struggle was humbling myself so I could learn in a way that would help me retain information as well as be interested in the subjects I was studying. This was something I worked on A LOT in college.I wont say Im there yet, but Im sure my colleagues and professional accomplishments would say otherwise. I make sure to cherish where I came from, what Im capable of right now, and how I want to evolve tomorrow. I look at situations from many angles so I can understand others point of view and be able to help others interpret and understand the topic. Outside of that, I cheer for people making progress which is something I never appreciated until learning became difficult for me (if you are curious, ask me about learning gymnastics at age 22).Did I lose any of you? Well, if I did, they are probably Googling people that still use the word goofball. What I hope to show you is that I am a healthy mix of philosophy, education, and humor. One minute, I am advising you in how to restructure your sentences. Another minute, we are analyzing the comedic timing of a single-clap applause. In all cases, I am a person to make whatever we are discussing relevant to the task at hand. I look forward to sharing and learning with you as you look forward to it as well.Fun Facts about Troy.- Hes left-handed!- Hes bilingual!- He has lived in another country!- He doesnt like speaking in 3rd person!- His initials are BLT spelled backwards!

I believe that the role of a teacher goes beyond the sharing of academic knowledge; it extends to providing mental guidance for students as well. Jim Henson once said, "[kids] don't remember what you try to teach them. They remember what you are." With the belief in mind, I try my very best to be a role model and inspire my students to act and speak with integrity at all times.I graduated from University of California, Davis with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Economics in 2008 and have been teaching ever since. In the past seven years, I've come in contact with about a thousand students at various ages. I learned to design, scaffold, and explain concepts using different methods according to students' best interests. I also worked closely with learning specialists to modify lessons and assignments for students with different needs. I've created common core aligned assessments that targeted students' ability to understand and explain core concepts. I've always been looking for ways to better my teaching because It is truly satisfying for me when i can make a difference in a child's life!As an experienced teacher, I believe that while teaching can be tough, it is one of the most rewarding jobs! I teach with a passion and I believe every child is capable of learning and achieving any goal they have in mind. My previous background in classroom environment has afforded me the skills to become a great tutor and I can't wait to meet my students!

I am a recent graduate from CSU Long Beach where I obtained my Master's degree in physics. Before my time in Long Beach, I was a student at UC Davis, where I obtained my BS in physics. I am currently looking to pursue my Ph.D. in physics once accepted to a university. Since my graduation in December, 2013 I have been in the teaching work force. I am currently teaching part-time at both Santa Ana College and Cypress college, where I am an instructor pf physics and astronomy. I also am teaching at local academies as an AP physics instructor for the summer. In addition to this experience, I was teaching for three years during my graduate program teaching lab courses in physics cover topics such as mechanics, electronics, magnetism, and Optics. I enjoying teaching these topics very much, and I love to hear students becoming more fluent in the language and application of the topics. It is truly the greatest reward as an instructor. My teaching style focus around a bottom-up approach. Since I am convinced memorization in physics/astronomy is not useful, I stress learning the most basic form of problems and modifying them based on the question being asked. It may be more difficult for some students, but I believe it leads to a mastery and will make students much more versatile to different questions/topics. When I am not tutoring, I am usually acting in a show or auditioning for film/commercials. I love to hike, run, and play video games in my downtime. I like to think of myself as a highly functioning, active nerd. I look forward to meeting any prospective students interested in learning these amazing topics in the world of physics and astronomy.

I am a graduate of The University of California, Davis. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History & Cultural Studies with a focus on education. Since graduation, I have tutored children of immigrants in Nevada. I have tutored private clients in California in elementary math up to prealgebra. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and History. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests, we always seem to have the most fun for the Critical Reading Portion of the exams. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my free time, I enjoy reading, swimming, running, and playing board games.

I studied mathematics during undergrad and fell in love with using logic and numbers to sift through the world.I then went on to obtain two masters degrees in economics. I love economics because it is a smart combination of statistical rigor and humanity.I also was an economics Ph.D. student in University of California, Davis studying theoretical microeconomics and econometrics for 3 years before I dropped out in 2019.I realized that what I love the most is applying knowledge to solve real world problems and help other people understand things.I still love economics but I am much more into applying statistics, econometrics, and programming to solve real problems.I fell in love with teaching during my Ph.D. years. I love to see how students can really understand things if they find the right way -- the right people or the right recourses -- to learn from. I want to be students' right kind of way to learn!I strive to try my best to use what I know to help students solve problems and understand things with more clarity.I firmly believe that seeing things from different perspectives is the fastest way to gain real understanding.

My first summer job out of college changed my career path from medicine to biology research--I cloned and characterized one of the first K+ channels in mammals. I also worked with Roy Britten, the discoverer of "junk DNA," on retrotransposons in marine invertebrates and published a paper with him. Since then I have completed my PhD from New York University and contributed to the field of neuroscience with a long history of high-impact publications in ion channels and neurotransmitter receptors, as well as genomics and structural biology. My interest in teaching grew when I got a position lecturing in physiology, neuroscience and cell biology at the medical school level, in the Caribbean, because the experience gave me a broader understanding of biology, and the medical relevance of my research, in contrast to very specific "projects" I had embarked on in research.
