I am currently a student at NC State University working towards a B.S. in physics with minors in computer science and mathematics. I'm looking to tutor in high school and college-level math courses, standardized test prep, and physics. I have some unofficial tutoring experience at the high school level. I'm excited to start tutoring because I really do enjoy helping people and watching them grow. I think it's super cool to see someone gain confidence in their abilities and improve. In fact, I'm thinking about trying to become a professor myself some day. My biggest goal is to make my students more passionate about learning by the time we are done, even if only a little bit!

Hello! I'm excited to support your student on their journey toward confidence and excellence in science. I have worked for VT for over 5 years and I specialize in many areas of science. My goal is to help students move beyond memorization and truly understand how the world around them works. From cells and ecosystems to scientific method and real-world applications, I focus on building strong foundational knowledge while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In our sessions, students learn to ask meaningful questions, analyze information, and connect concepts across topics. Whether we're exploring biology fundamentals, environmental science, human body systems, or core general science principles, lessons are structured, and tailored to each student's learning style and pace. I provide clear explanations, guided practice, and continuous feedback to ensure steady progress. My approach builds not only academic performance but also confidence!
I am a graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education; a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Masters of School Administration and my doctorate in Educational Leadership and Supervision. My dissertation which was entitled, "Gender disparities in reading achievement in grades 3-5". Growing up I developed a love for education by witnessing my mother teach and help students in the neighborhood. I knew when I was in kindergarten that I wanted to be a teacher and in 1992 upon graduating from college I was afforded the opportunity to become a teacher in the county in which I lived as a child. I was a teacher for 19 years, prior to becoming an assistant principal and principal. I served as an assistant principal and principal for 8 years before taking a position as Director of Curriculum & Instruction/Title I and Chief Academic Officer. I retired in June of 2023 after completing 31 years of service in education. I knew when I retired that it would be hard to just stop. I have always had a desire to help students learn and be successful. I believe that students learn differently and as educators we have to adapt our teaching to meet their individual needs.
I am currently a freshman at North Carolina State University pursuing a undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering. I enjoy tutoring students in Algebra, Precalculus, Calculus, and all levels of Chemistry. I have studied math through Differential Equations and chemistry through college level quantitative chemistry.
I graduated from NC State University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. I aspired to become a veterinarian. After struggling in my entry-level Chemistry and calculus classes but excelling in history, English, and Literature classes, I realized that my gifts were in these areas as opposed to science and higher math. I also realized that teaching was my calling after earning my teaching certification from UNC-Charlotte. However, I love science! Although I was initially certified in Biology, my first teaching position was teaching physical science. I LOVED IT! I taught myself physics and eventually earned my AP Physics 1 certification from College Board. It was the journey into physics that revealed my strengths in applying physics to Real World phenomena,I have taught physical science, physics, AP Physics 1, Algebra I, literature, and grammar. I have worked 1 to 1 teaching homebound students in science, and literature. My love of history makes me passionate about it as well! I read nonfiction American history as a hobby! I also have traveled extensively in the Lower 48 States with North Dakota, Oregon, Louisiana, Alaska, and Hawaii being the only states I have never visited. I earned my National Board for Professional Teaching certification in high school science with a concentration in physics. My love of physics is only paralleled by my love of reading. I believe that we are all lifelong learners!
As a dedicated math enthusiast, I find immense joy in unraveling the mysteries of numbers and equations. My journey as a math tutor has been both fulfilling and transformative, and I am excited to share my passion with aspiring learners. Background and Passion: Mathematics has been my compass since childhood. From solving puzzles to acing calculus exams, I've always been drawn to its elegance and logic. During my undergraduate years, I volunteered as a peer tutor, helping struggling students grasp complex concepts. Witnessing their "aha" moments fueled my desire to make a lasting impact. Teaching Philosophy: I believe that every student has the potential to excel in math. My approach is patient, empathetic, and tailored to individual needs. I emphasize understanding over rote memorization. I encourage students to ask questions, explore alternate methods, and appreciate the beauty of mathematical patterns. Adaptability and Creativity: No two students are alike. As a tutor, I adapt my teaching style to accommodate diverse learning preferences. Whether it's breaking down algebraic expressions or explaining geometric proofs, I strive to make math accessible and engaging. Building Confidence: Many students fear math due to past struggles. My goal is to boost their confidence by demystifying concepts and providing a supportive environment. I celebrate small victoriesa correctly solved equation, a newfound appreciation for fractionsas stepping stones toward mastery. Beyond Equations: Math isn't just about numbers; it's about problem-solving, critical thinking, and resilience. I encourage my students to apply mathematical principles to real-world scenarios. Whether it's calculating compound interest or analyzing data trends, I want them to see math as a life skill, not a daunting subject. Feedback and Growth: I actively seek feedback from students and parents. Continuous improvement is my mantra. Attending workshops, reading pedagogical research, and collaborating with fellow educators keep me sharp and informed. Impact and Legacy: My greatest reward is witnessing students overcome their math anxiety, improve their grades, and develop a genuine love for the subject. I aspire to leave a legacya generation of confident problem-solvers who appreciate the elegance of mathematics.

I have been learning and teaching Mathematics for a very long time. I enjoy seeing my students gain confidence as they work to learn topics that can be quite difficult. First and foremost, it's important to me that all of my students know that I want them to be successful; and that I believe in them. The students that take that to heart and are willing to work are nearly always successful.
Originally from Reading, Pennsylvania, I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 2012 with a Honors Bachelor of Science degree in biology with a concentration in plant biology. While a student, I participated in a research internship with the Department of Botany at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. I also traveled to Costa Rica while an undergraduate to conduct field research in the tropical wet and cloud forests. I migrated south to The Swamp and the University of Florida. While there, I taught college-level courses in biology and botany while assisting with research in herbaria and molecular biology research labs. I also completed my teaching licensure requirements and student taught with Bradford High School in Starke, Florida.I began my migration north again and relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina area in 2015 and obtained my NC Teaching License in Biology (Grades 9-12) and Comprehensive Science (Grades 9-12). I teach mostly Biology (academic, honors, and International Baccalaureate IB). I also have taught Earth and Environmental Science and chemistry. I am currently completing my Master of Education degree in Science Education through the North Carolina State University.
I value the opportunity to receive high quality education afforded to me very much as, in my view, education is the only means that helped me achieve independence. I am an independent and contributing citizen who has financial independence. That is the primary drive behind my passion for teaching. Basically, I hope that everyone who deserves to receive quality education will have the opportunity to enjoy that.In this information overloading era, too often we don't lack access to information. Rather, what we lack is the skill to weed out noises, lies, and falsehoods from all the information available to us. Knowing this, in my teaching practice, I try my best to inculcate a critical thinking method in my students so that they can achieve lifetime learning on their own. I will teach students how to gather information and evaluate the voracity of it, and how to apply good information to solve a problem. My goal is to help student to internalize information so that it can be elevated to knowledge, which might also be elevated to wisdom if a student knows to integrate information.
Hello! I'm passionate about STEM education intertwined with the liberal arts. I double-majored in Chemical Engineering & French Language and Literature at NC State University so I value a holistic, well-rounded education. Thus, I am comfortable tutoring in many subjects, including Science,French, Math, English and standardized testing such as the ACT, SAT, and AP exams. I have significant experience as both a one-on-one middle & high school tutor during college and teaching high school students after college. When tutoring a student, I am extremely patient. I understand that struggling with a subject can be frustrating and many people prefer to avoid the work all together. I have learned that relating difficult topics to something the student enjoys is an effective learning tool. I combine this technique with hands-on examples. In my experience, practice does make perfect! My pedagogical style is process-based and goal-oriented. I like students to set a goal (or several), collaborate with me on a process to achieve it, and then put the plan into action with individualized methodology and assessment. I look forward to working with you and helping you understand, solve, and achieve!

Hi! I'm Phil and I am excited to work with you in the subject areas of Business, History and Financial Math. No matter the need I will work diligently with each student to help bridge learning gaps and give them the confidence to succeed.
Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is a difficult but hopefully rewarding experience. Along the way, I have taken many mathematics courses, and some are still looming in the distance. However, I have found that I have a knack for many of the mathematical coursework thus far. So I stepped into the world of tutoring upon recommendation from my Calculus professor. I have since taken great joy in helping peers understand mathematics. I take pride in lucidly explaining problems and seeing the "aha" moment unfold in their eyes. I find that explaining problem-solving procedures works best when tying coursework to real-world examples and analogies, and my students/clients seem to agree.
I have recently retired after nineteen years of teaching high school Chemistry and Physical Science. I am excited about helping make difficult subjects easy for my students. I will help students with improving math skills. I am a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Master's degree in Textile Chemistry. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked for twelve years as an industrial chemist.
Since high school, I've always had a passion for both teaching and mathematics, and the more I learn about both the more passionate I become. I was inspired by my high school math teacher, Mr. Byan, who displayed such a love of learning and teaching that it became infectious, and I hope to spread his joy for the subject and the appreciation of mathematics' profound beauty.I'm working towards an undergraduate degree in math, and hope to pursue a graduate degree afterward. I've been teaching since my first year of undergrad, and ever since I've looked for ways to continue -- through my personal and professional life.I think that the standard education system does a horrible job at teaching mathematics and often leaves students feeling like they're memorizing formulas. Real math is all about the journey to the answer, but grade school math is far too focused on just the answer. However, I feel strongly students should rarely have to memorize anything, and the ideas presented to students should always be motivated and explained so they understand the why and the what. I've found in my own experience teaching, too, that motivating the answer to a problem gives students a greater desire to learn as well as a deeper understanding, and it develops critical thinking skills.
I completed my undergraduate education in Animal Ecology and Forestry at Iowa State University in 2010. While a student at Iowa State, I assisted numerous graduate students with wildlife research projects and even developed my own project on the vegetative cover used by jackrabbits. I received my Master of Science degree in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology from North Carolina State University in March of 2013. My thesis involved studying the impact of spring and summer prescribed fire in forest management on wild turkey nest survival. The field of Biology is thrilling to me, from cell replication to plant and animal physiology and especially ecosystem-level processes. Through my experiences in Biology and Environmental Science, however, I have learned to appreciate and thoroughly enjoy math as well. The majority of my tutoring experience has been in Math, particularly Algebra 1; however, my favorite subjects are Biology and Environmental Science! Because of my love for nature and the out of doors, I like to incorporate real world, hands on examples when teaching. When I take a break from learning, I love to hike, especially with my dog Lilly, bird-watch, and even play some video games!
I have been an educator for 12 years and a lover of literature my entire life. As an educator, my favorite thing is to help someone understand how to find joy (or at least comfort) in reading and writing. I believe that these skills open the entire universe to a person, whether it be in a fictional realm or in the boardroom. I received my BS in English Education at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, earned National Board Certification, and have recently completed a MS in Technical Communication through North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. I have spent my career working with students of all levels, including EC, Honors, and AP. I have also spent much time tutoring students to be successful on the verbal portion of the SAT. In my free time, I of course enjoy reading, but a close second would be traveling. I love a good road trip, and I'm also trying to expand my travels - hopefully going overseas soon!
I graduated from Hillsdale College in Michigan with majors in History and Latin. Currently I am working on my Master's degree in Public History and North Carolina State University. I have tutored history and Latin through academic honors societies at Hillsdale. I did two semesters of history tutoring and 4 semesters of Latin tutoring. This included helping college students at all levels and also some high school students. In addition, I have been involved in many school programs at several historic sites, teaching history to primarily grade school students. This is one of my favorite ways to teach history--I like being able to bring the past to life. I am dedicated to helping students understand the subjects they are studying and develop a passion for them. I want to create a pleasant learning environment and allow my students to find their potential. Outside of academics, I love spending time in museums (after I earn my Master's, I want to work as a curator). I also enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities.
I am a graduate of North Carolina State University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering. Since graduation, I worked for an Environmental Engineering Consulting Firm for 1 year and then moved to the Dominican Republic to work for a non-profit organization for 1 year as well. During both of these years, I studied Spanish extensively. I have informally taught ESL to the people in the Dominican Republic, as well as a little bit of Spanish to my friends and family. I am most passionate about learning languages, but also specialize in tutoring math, specifically algebra. In my experience with helping students from all levels learn English, I always try to make our lessons fun and relaxed. I truly believe this to be the easiest and most time-effective way to learn. I am someone who is patient, kind, and wants to see my students succeed in class and in life.
