If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. -Albert EinsteinAfter completing 4 years of work experience as a business valuation analyst and level 3 of the CFA program, I have taken some time to travel (before Covid) and begin teaching online. My expertise is in options, futures, forwards, swaps and other financial derivatives, which I studied both at Middle Tennessee State University and the London School of Economics. I gained valuable tutoring experience in university after being offered a position in the finance lab as a head tutor, and have since found that those skills have translated well to helping business students thrive at Varsity Tutors. While I also tutor other subjects including Spanish and College English, I have found working with professionals seeking designations or motivated college business students looking to get ahead to be a great fit for me.I now work in business development for a venture capital firm whose operators have created over $3.0B in exit value. I help make sure capital flows to the best and brightest entrepreneurs, and that risk-seeking investors are properly rewarded for their bets.I look forward to helping you advance.

Knowing the student's motivation is the key to how I approach our work together. The student's life goals are always at the root of how I approach the presentation and engagement with material. In essence, I am a mentor or a coach who seeks to push the learner towards their LIFE goals by ensuring they master the educational and/or personal benchmarks that brought them to me.

While earning my bachelor's and master's degrees in English literature, I have had the opportunity to give students a number of tools to develop their literary craft, and I have helped students increase their reading comprehension by introducing them to a multitude of written works. I enjoy tutoring high school and college students, especially after teaching freshman English and working in the writing center as a graduate assistant at Middle Tennessee State University. In 2007, I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with Minors in both Sociology and English, from MTSU. I spent several years in the medical field before deciding to pursue a career in education. I completed a summer residency with Nashville Teaching Fellows in 2011 before entering the classroom in the 2011-12 school year. I still maintain an active TN teaching license for English grades 7-12. All of my classroom teaching experience has occurred in non-traditional school settings. As the first generation college graduate in my family, I understand the challenges students often face when navigating the school system in both K-12 and college settings. This unique perspective motivated me to work with students that were often struggling with school or lacked the motivation to tap into their potential. As far as my teaching style and philosophy, I believe that every student can achieve greatness and there is always room for growth. I often approach learning with out of the box thinking, and use materials that engage the student, allowing them to make connections and learn concepts with topics that interest them. Once a foundation is laid, it can easily be built upon by applying the same techniques with other texts or materials that may not be quite as interesting, yet still required to demonstrate mastery of a skill. I have a record of success in my classroom, and was recognized as having the highest growth for English III in my district for the 2014-2015 school year. My favorite subjects to teach and tutor are Literature and Writing. I believe words are powerful, even more so when you dive into their often unspoken meanings. In my spare time I read everything I can get my hands on, re-purpose furniture, and explore real estate.
I have a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University, as well as minors in Political Science and Philosophy. These programs helped shape my belief that the key to academic success is not in memorization, but in process development. My goal is to help students learn how to problem solve on test day rather than simply regurgitate information. When a student learns how to develop context around his or her knowledge, that student is better prepared for class, for research, for writing, and for exams. While many students panic at the prospect of taking standardized tests like the ACT or GRE, I have learned that my methods lead to more confident students, less stressful test days, and - most importantly - higher scores. I have experience tutoring political science, especially writing and research. I also tutor Psychology, English, Writing, and Middle School Math. I can help students write in MLA and APA format, as both will likely be used in college. Most importantly, I can help students gain confidence in their academic work. No one likes to study when they feel overwhelmed by the fear of failure, so I make morale a top concern. Once a student realizes he or she has the tools needed to succeed, school becomes fun again. After that, the rest is easy.
Hey! My name is Connor, I go by Ken, and I am currently a student at MTSU trying to become a high school teacher within the next two years. I've always been pulled towards helping others when they are struggling with things in their lives be it personal matters or academic problems, and I've put together that teaching is right up my alley. Ever since I took step one with MTeach (which let me teach in a real classroom three different lesson plans that I made) I knew that teaching is a passion and I've been working towards that goal ever since.Outside of School I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, golf, Frisbee, tennis, a few video games, reading, writing, playing the ukulele, and simply exploring the world around me. When I'm not working in the lumber department or heading the Kids Workshop at Home Depot I am normally at home watching my roommates two Blue Heeler dogs or am outside in a hammock enjoying life.If you are looking for a positive attitude, an environment where mistakes are a stepping stone, and are ready for a few laughs you found the right tutor!
I am a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Audio Production with a minor in Spanish. I have always been drawn to writing and reading. This interest became a passion during my years in high school and college. I believe education is fundamental to success and it is my pleasure to give back what I received. I have been tutoring since I was seventeen years old and have always found it an extraordinary feeling to watch someone progress in whatever subject we have been working on. My personal creed for tutoring is to make sure the student is absolutely motivated. I have found motivation, not intelligence, to be the defining factor between an A and an F.
I am a certified teacher in grades K-6 with an ESOL endorsement on my teaching license and a passion for education in all areas. I taught in the classroom for close to seven years, but as I became a mother and my life and priorities changed, I wanted to explore the options of using my passion for education in other ways. I am looking forward to finding dedicated students who I can help be successful.I believe everyone can learn and achieve their potential, and asking for help never hurts. After all, as one of my college professors always said, "Smart people ask questions!"

Since graduation, I have worked in commercial real estate, human resources, corporate training, and published a variety of articles and stories. I've led workshops on writing and musical studies and love to be involved in the community. I am very passionate about English, literature, and history. I've found helping struggling students with their English studies and writing assignments to be incredibly fulfilling; and nothing makes me happier than seeing students learn, grow, and succeed. I firmly believe tutoring makes me a better thinker and writer; and I learn just as much from the students as they do from me. Learning is a lifetime process and has no end. When I'm not tutoring, my interests include guitar, piano, sports, working out, and the outdoors.

As a passionate educator with a Master's in Business Administration from Arkansas State University and a Bachelor's in English from Middle Tennessee State University, I am eager to share my knowledge in subjects such as English and supply chain management. While I have experience training associates in a professional setting, I am currently pursuing certification as an English teacher through the ArPEP program. My teaching philosophy centers around creating structured, engaging lessons that break down complex concepts into manageable steps, fostering a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. I am particularly motivated by the opportunity to help high school students develop their English skills, as I believe that strong communication is essential for their future success. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading and exploring literature, which enriches my understanding of the subject and enhances my ability to connect with students.
Light sparkles in the eyes of every engaged student, from K4 early readers to 12th-grade senior-thesis authors; and from dedicated life-long adult learners to "night-before-the-big-test" college-crammers. Fifteen years as both private and contracted tutor has profoundly enriched me as witness of the light of knowledge emerging in receptive minds. I can't wait to meet you!For me, tutoring must be more than a lecture session starring *me.* Instead, I seek to thoughtfully engage each student in dialogue, using open-ended questions: "What did you notice about that letter?" or "If you were building a city, what would you do?" or "Why do you think looking at the twinkling stars inspired ancient scientists to develop systems of mathematics?" Such questions help create an environment in which new ideas are safe, exciting, and heard.Although math was always my favorite subject in school, I also find such joy in tutoring communication arts as an adult.Leading students to effectively communicate their knowledge impacts literally every course of study, no matter the age or field. The foundation concepts of communication and literacy, laid well, produce life-improving fruits that will accompany each individual throughout life's duration. That's amazing to me!Third grade thru high school, and college thru adult students benefit greatly from simple, straightforward methods of building words, sentences, paragraphs, and essays.Foreign language learning is a critical key of humanity's interdependent growth. While attending the University of Vienna, Austria, I had my first contracted tutor job with a group of soldiers from the Austrian army, teaching English as a second language. All these concepts lead seamlessly into the grammar needed for foreign language study. My BA in German language is a demonstration of this love of language. Additionally, I have studied 4 years of French, 2 years of Spanish, and recently began Mandarin Chinese.Truly, I eagerly anticipate working with you, as we journey, learning and growing together!

As a young woman with a passionate interest in helping others improve their lives, I earned my first bachelor's degree in Education, followed by a second in Interior Design. Though I loved teaching, my affinity for creative business endeavors led me to pursue Interior Design. After working for many years with my own company in Interior Design, I found myself ready to explore new horizons in the corporate world of real estate. My family was and is still heavily involved for many years in both residential sales and development, as well as a few have migrated into commercial real estate sales and development. In Phoenix, I worked with a real estate company specializing in new home sales, working with both new home buyers and residential real estate investors. As I built my real estate clientele, I grew and developed my own investment real estate company with more than 30 agents in Scottsdale, AZ in the mid 2000's. This unfolded through my participation in AZREIA, one of the nation's largest personal real estate investment associations at that time. I held workshops, spoke at the National Convention for 3 years, was an Instructor with the Commercial Real Estate Institute, and wrote monthly newsletter articles for the Association's Monthly Newsletter over a four-year period.I was featured as a Master Investor on the cover of Personal Real Estate Investor Magazine, and also as Broker of the month in Broker Magazine, and was a sought-after speaker and advisor within the real estate investment community. I appeared on radio, and in front of national audiences, discussing not only real estate investment, but also personal development, and the virtues of also investing in oneself, in all areas of true wealth. Personal Development is one of my passions and in my free time, taking self-improvement classes brings me joy.
My passion for helping students grow stems from a desire to see the next generation rise to their potential. Education is an essential piece to this puzzle! I have tutored in-person and online several times over the past 13 years, taught 3rd grade and 10th grade in public schools, and worked with homeschooling students. I currently homeschool my own children and have three different tutoring jobs, where I tutor elementary math, ELA, and science as well as high school essay editing. While it is incredibly difficult to select just one favorite subject to tutor, I would say that I most ELA because I absolutely love literature and essay writing! I believe the best way to teach or tutor students is through deep, meaningful conversation and asking them thought-provoking questions.
I'm passionate about helping students improve and gain confidence in their writing skills. I often focus on improving cohesion in academic papers through the proper use of transitions, language/vocabulary/word-placement, and sentence structure. I am also skilled at helping students articulate and navigate complex ideas and topics. My background in the humanities and the social sciences has provided me with an intensive experience of reading and writing in both creative and academic capacities.
My educational background is in mathematics education. This means I studied how to do math and how students learn math. I graduated with a PhD from North Carolina State University and since then, I've taught math for K-12 future teachers as well as math courses for non-STEM majors. I also taught high school math before going to graduate school. I am passionate about helping students overcome their fear and anxiety about math. Math can be a difficult subject, but I enjoy helping students understand both the how and why of mathematics. I want my students to gain confidence in their abilities to problem solve.
As a tutor, teacher, and mentor, I strive to provide all of my students with the fundamental knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life. The English language, phonics, reading, writing, and general literacy are my main subjects of interest and expertise.
I am currently a student at Middle Tennessee State University finishing my last semester on a degree in Industrial Mathematics with a minor in Physics.I've always been interested in math education, be it helping classmates grapple the material, or as a tutor for a nearby community college. I try to explain material in a way that illuminates what's actually happening and connect it with what is already understood. What's better than seeing someone figure out the answer is hearing "Oooh, that makes way more sense. That's why we ____."
