I believe that education is a privilege not a right. While I believe everyone is entitle to an education they need to understand that it is a privilege because of where they live. Not all children get the opportunities that American children are afforded at little to no cost. I also firmly believe that students these days are NOT being held accountable for their actions either at home or in school. This is NOT the way the real world works. It is important that students be held accountable for their actions or lack there of, both in class and out of class and that is how I run my classroom. I am there to instruct them to the best of my ability and I expect them to work to the best of their abilities. The harder they try the more I will work with them to meet their goals, but I have little tolerance for those who don't want to be there.

I am an experienced educator with a Master's and PhD in Irish Music Studies and a Bachelor's in Music Education. I have over 2 years of tutoring experience and more than 10 years in the classroom. I specialize in a range of subjects, including Ethnomusicology, Teacher Preparation, English Language Arts, and Music Theory, which allows me to connect with students of various ages and backgrounds. My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to explore and express their ideas. I am passionate about fostering academic confidence and critical thinking skills, and I enjoy integrating music into my lessons to make learning more engaging. Outside of tutoring, I am an avid musician and enjoy exploring different cultures through music, which enriches my teaching approach and inspires my students.
As an educator and professional writer, I'm passionate about helping students from all academic backgrounds develop confidence in their verbal skills. I earned my MA in English from Rutgers University, where I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and distinctions. I've taught and tutored students in English Composition I and II and remedial writing. I also scored in the 98th percentile on the GRE writing section and the 92nd percentile on the GRE verbal section. As a teacher, I strive to meet the unique needs of each student. While such individualized practice applies to all pedagogies, it is even more important in the area of writing and verbal skills.Effective educational practices are grounded in evidence-based strategies. Nonetheless, teachers must be prepared to meet the unique needs of students, taking into account their abilities, areas of weakness, and personal motivations.Too often, students come away from academic experiences with a diminished belief in their capacity to achieve. Teachers need to be honest with students about their current skill level. However, feedback must be given in a tactful way that recognizes the student's inherent abilities, unique talents, and potential for change. In the classroom, I believe teachers should emphasize a growth mindset. Writers and life-long learners aren't born. They are taught through skill building and practice. Thus, feedback on student writing must be individualized. When students receive one-on-one attention in this way, they can develop confidence in the teacher's dedication to their success, and more importantly, their own potential. Tailored feedback provides an achievable action plan for student improvement.Students can go anywhere for automated, generic information. Increasingly, free, open-access courses from organizations like Coursera provide the same knowledge students get in the classroom. However, students enrolled in college-level courses or tutoring deserve individualized, tailored feedback.I'm excited to work with you!
I am a veteran teacher with a proven track-record of accomplishments. Possessing numerous certifications, I am able to relate to various levels and ages of learners. I am an advocate of challenging students to constantly improve; I prefer a 'coaching' style to instruction and take great pride in student success.
I earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration. After graduating, I worked in accounting leadership for 13 years. For many years, I volunteered in elementary school classrooms working alongside the teacher to assist students with engaging activities. At that point, I realized my passion was educating children and transitioned to a substitute teacher role where I worked with students ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade. For the past two years, I have taught 5th grade students in all subject areas. My lessons are aligned to state standards and differentiated so each student receives rigorous and challenging instruction. I also tutor our students in math to prepare them for the state standardized assessments. I believe all students work best when they are encouraged, engaged, and inspired.
I'm a certified tutor with three years of experience in math and science. I tailor lessons to each student's learning style, making difficult concepts easy to understand. My goal is to build confidence and help students achieve lasting academic success.
I am a student at Marywood University working on my Bachelors Degree in Biology Pre-Professional on the Pre-Med Track, along with a Minor in Chemistry. I am currently a tutor at my University. I tutor students in courses I previously completed in order to help them achieve their full potential. I am passionate about educating students through developing effective study habits and interactive learning techniques. I believe that every student should be confident in their knowledge, as it is a tool to achieve each one of their goals. I am able to tutor numerous subjects, however I am most passionate about tutoring students of all ages in science. This would include a range of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology, Immunology, Neuroscience and Mathematics.
