My background in the life sciences has shaped my teaching philosophy around understanding rather than memorization. I believe students learn best when complex concepts are broken down into clear, logical steps that help them see how and why processes work. I tailor each session to the student's learning style, focusing on building strong foundations, critical thinking skills, and confidence. Seeing a student's understanding grow is incredibly rewarding and why I am so passionate about tutoring!

Math is incredibly fun for me to teach, I've always been that friend who worked with fellow peers during High School, and even in College would help other students with the Math problems we were given immediately after class outside the room. This experience has helped me know how to connect new concepts and old concepts to help others learn best!

Growing up in Miami, Florida it was hard to find someone to help me with school, as many people that live there are non-native English speakers. I saw this gap in education in many first-generation American students like myself. Therefore, I took it upon myself to create a mentoring program where I had my first tutoring experience. I had students from elementary to high school and was able to tutor them on various topics, especially science, which is my passion! I was able to discover my own learning style and it allowed me to thrive in medical school. My goal is to help my students learn their own learning style and become independent learners. As a new doctor, teaching is fundamental in our growth as practitioners, as we are always teaching patients about their diseases and management.I am passionate about helping students because I know how it feels when someone tries to teach me something but doesn't take the time to explain it. Memorizing things is easy, however, once you truly understand something, you know it forever.I took this passion with me all the way to medical school and was hand selected by the pathology professor to become the teaching assistant at my medical school. As a teaching assistant, I was able to hold both full-class and one-on-one tutoring sessions. Pathology is notoriously the most difficult class in medical school, so I was honored to be selected as the tutor as the professor selects the two highest performing students in her class. I am looking forward to starting medical residency next year, because as a physician, I will always be a lifelong learner and teacher.Science is my favorite subject to learn and tutor because there is a lot of reasoning involved. People often think that science is solely memorization however this is a misconception. Science is highly organized, and works in systems. Once one understands a specific system or concept that is being studied, it makes the rest of the work so much more fun.Outside of medical school, I love to cook, go for a long bike ride, head to the beach or catch the latest musical (pre-covid of course). I work hard in my studies but always make some time for friends, family and myself. I'm looking forward to getting to know you as a student and your learning style to meet your academic goals!

I tutor communication skills and public speaking skills because I have an intense degree of respect for the importance of these skills to success. Add to that, I firmly believe that each of us with our own unique personalities, styles and backgrounds, can be effective, positive, and dynamic communicators.I have had the pleasure and honor to help students and adults improve their communication and public speaking skills for over 20 years now. I am especially passionate about working with individuals who struggle with developing self-confidence to prepare and deliver powerful and engaging presentations; my goal is to help them accomplish their personal, academic and career goals.Because effective and dynamic communication skills are among those most highly rated for success in personal, academic, and business relationships, I am committed to helping communicators of various ethnic backgrounds, genders, ages and nationalities identify their goals and overcome barriers to fulfill their aspirations.I have a doctorate degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution, a master's degree in Speech Communication and a bachelor's degree in Communication Arts.Among the most fulfilling experiences I have had are those where former students and/or workshop participants approach me years after our time together to convey how positively the lessons I shared impacted their lives and supported the accomplishment of their goals.

While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English literature, writing and composition, psychology, and conversational Spanish. I am a graduate of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in Boca Raton, FL. There, I received a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on English literature and a Master of Arts in English with a focus on writing, rhetoric, and composition. While at FAU, I worked at the writing center, helping students, faculty, alumni, and visiting scholars improve their writing and language skills. Simultaneously, I taught college writing courses for FAU's College of Arts and Letter's Department of English while completing several writing internships, attending national conferences, and taking advantage of study abroad opportunities. I had the opportunity to work extensively with ESL students. Given that FAU is one of the most diverse institutions in the nation and that I am a native Spanish speaker who immigrated to the United States as a young child, these experiences helped me feel even more connected to my language and culture. I've always believed that theory and practice are equally vital to a strong intellectual foundation. So, while I worked toward earning both degrees, I coupled my practical teaching and tutoring experience with additional courses from the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literature. I've worked with many students struggling with standardized tests, academic essays, graduate school applications, and learning either English or Spanish as a second language. We always seem to have the most fun (and make the most progress) when we focus on the writing and critical reading portions of the exams or assignments, employing real-life scenarios in the process.

I am a life long learner. I love to learn, and I love to share what I learn with others. I have three baccalaureate degrees in English, Psychology, and Criminal Justice. Education can be very exciting, and it doesn't have to end in the classroom, however: I also studied animal behavior while in Washington, where I worked with chimpanzees who spoke sign language, and I assisted with research on dolphins while in Turkey.I love animals, as evidenced by the above experience. Otters are my favorite animals, because they make hard work look fun. They need to groom and hunt constantly, but they swim around as though they are always having the best time in the world. I try to apply this otter-esque attitude to everything I do. You never know what you can build out of your interests, or where those interests can take you. Hard work isn't always fun, but if we stay focused and smile along the way, we can do anything!

I am a graduate of Florida Atlantic University (FAU). I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a focus on writing and education. As an undergraduate, I took advanced graduate courses, looking to expand and to deepen my knowledge and skills in writing and pedagogy. When the French avionics company I worked for for about 10 years closed their Miami facility, in 2001, I decided to go back to school, and finish my degree. I was in my English class (Honors Short Story) on September 11, waiting for the class to start, when the television came on to news reports of an attack and we watched in horror coverage of the first tower engulfed in flames, and the second tower collapse.I remember being anxious about writing my first college essay in some ten years. It was a paper on Edgar Allan Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher." Our instructions were to write a five-paragraph essay, with a minimum 10-sentence paragraphs. I was confused by this instruction, because we didn't learn the 5-paragraph essay in Montreal. I considered submitting a writing sample to see if I was up to the task. Eventually, I decided to take my chances and write the essay the best way I knew how.I could hardly breathe waiting for the professor to grade and return our papers. Finally, she called us one by one up to her desk, and she handed us our papers. I do not know what she said to the other students, but as she held out my paper, she motion to the desk and said, "You should be on this side of the desk," meaning the teacher side. That's all I needed to hear. I made sure to take every course that would make me the best teacher I could be.I studied year-round, and in December 2003, I graduated summa cum laude. I went on to take graduate courses in teaching reading, language arts, young adult fiction, pedagogy, and writing. I started teaching high school Language Arts and Reading in 2004-2005.While I tutor a range of subjects, I love writing. I have had an essay and a memoir published. I am compiling essays for a book series and I post short reflections on my website. I enjoy watching crime/police dramas, mysteries/detective shows, and the occasional vampire series. I also like photography, sewing, and quilting.Because I was not born in the United States, I missed out on the treasure trove of American children's books, and so I took every opportunity to read them as a student and as a teacher. I relish reading children's books and young adult fiction because I feel they help me to connect to high school students. I use children's books to teach complex topics, because the readability level does not get in the way of seeing the pattern of writing and the stylistic, organizational tropes the author uses.I believe in meeting people where they are. I use my own experience and self-reflection to better understand the needs of my students; to adapt to their learning style and preferences; to have empathy for their cultural perspective; to appreciate the full range of their personal experience. I look forward to working with you on achieving the goals and aspirations you have for yourself. So, how may I help you?

I have worked as a part time instructor at several universities in South Florida for over 20 years. I teach accounting, taxation and finance courses. During my teaching career, I was named the State of Florida's best accounting and business instructor twice. At the college I'm currently teaching at, I was named faculty of the year for 2024. These teaching awards were voted on by the students. My educational background consists of a bachelor's degree in accounting from UNC-Greensboro, an MBA from Wilmington University, and a Masters degree in accounting from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. My favorite subjects to teach and tutor in are financial accounting, cost accounting, finance, and taxation. What makes my teaching style effective is that I have over 40 years of practical experience in the subjects that I am teaching. Combining this real world experience with my academic background makes me unique. I have accumulated so much knowledge over the decades that I want to share with my students to help them learn the material and be able to apply it to their professional careers. My students have said that I am the best professor they ever had. Students that struggled with accounting with other instructors have excelled in my courses. Feedback from my students says that I am able to take complex accounting principles and explain them in layman's terms which non-accounting majors can understand. I work at your pace and have a lot of patience.

As a certified teacher with 20 plus years of teaching experience, I consider myself a lifelong learner. I began my academic career shortly after graduating from high school and received my Associate in Science degree in Court Reporting Technology in 1992. After working with the Civil and Criminal court systems in Miami. I quickly knew I wanted more growth in my college academics and began diligently pursuing my calling to teach! I continued at Miami Dade College and upgraded my AS degree to an Associate in Arts degree, graduating in 1998. This would open the doors to getting into Florida Atlantic University. At FAU, I worked on my undergraduate degree in Psychology, and graduated in 2004. While attending classes at FAU, I taught in the classrooms with the public-school systems. With much faith, perseverance, and a steadfast attitude, I continued to pursue my calling to teach, I became a certified teacher, and attended graduate school! I am a successful graduate of the Inaugural class with a Master of Science in Curriculum & Instruction with a specialization in Early and Middle Childhood Education, from the Adrian Dominican School of Education at Barry University. I proudly graduated Suma Cum Laude in 2013 from Barry University. I stayed teaching in the Public School system for approximately 10 + years. I left with the desire to experience different academic arenas, which I have successfully accomplished as a classroom teacher. I now have knowledge and have taught with the charter school systems, private schools, and religious schools from grades Pre-K- 8th since 2000.However, with the Pandemic, I began tutoring/teaching with a company until presently via zoom and in person. This experience would lead me to create and run my own tutoring business where I teach students from Pre-K to 8th grade via zoom and in person in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. I also have the opportunity to teach ESOL adults who are looking to learn English. My most successful experience as a teacher/tutor was from my student in Elementary Math. I tutored her afterschool when she was in elementary school and struggling in Math. Today she is a married mom of two and herself an Elementary school Math teacher! She lovingly reminds me that her success began with me believing in her and challenging her to blossom successfully to who she is today! Until her teen years I guided, mentored, tutored, and taught her to achieve the success she has today!I also have distinguished awards in 2002 from FAU called the Broward Achievement Award awarded for student leadership as a role model to students and the community. I was also awarded a Certificate of Achievement from Florida Atlantic University in 2002 Awarded for demonstrating distinguished excellence in personal and professional endeavors, as well as dedication and commitment to helping others. More recently I received "Most Valuable Teacher" award from Avant Garde Academy in 2020.I conclude by informing you how humbled and grateful I am for my calling to teach! My approach to tutoring is student-centered, focusing on creating a supportive atmosphere that facilitates open dialogue and intellectual exploration. I believe in adapting my teaching style to meet the individual needs of each student, whether that means providing additional explanations, using visual aids, or relating concepts to real-world examples. For language learners, this might involve immersive conversation practice, culturally relevant materials, or tailored exercises to address specific language learning goals. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that education is a transformative tool for personal growth and social understanding. I strive to make complex anthropological concepts and language skills accessible and relevant to students' lives, encouraging them to think critically about the world around them. I also value inclusivity and diversity in education, having experience working with English as a Second Language (ESL) students and adapting my teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles and backgrounds. Outside of academia, I have a keen interest in museum education and public anthropology. My experiences as a Museum Educator at the Miami Children's Museum and as a Research Intern at History Miami Museum have given me valuable insights into communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences. These experiences inform my tutoring approach, allowing me to make anthropological concepts and language learning engaging and relatable to students from various backgrounds. In my spare time, I enjoy exploring new cultures through travel, participating in academic conferences, and engaging in community-based research projects. These activities not only enrich my personal life but also contribute to my ability to bring fresh perspectives and real-world examples into my tutoring sessions, particularly when it comes to language and cultural studies.

I graduated with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Italian, and I've spent the past few years teaching both English as a Second Language and Italian. I really enjoy helping students feel more confident using a new language in real-life situations, not just in a textbook. I'm currently working toward my Master's in TESOL, which helps me keep improving how I teach and support different learning styles. My goal is to make lessons engaging, practical, and tailored to each student's needs.

"Knowledge is power"Science is my passion, when students draw connections between content and career applications, their learning is so much more impactful. My interest was piqued in a first grade science course. It was the only subject where asking questions was encouraged, and not challenged. In high school my curiosity deepened and led me to pursue a degree in Biology education. After graduating from Florida Atlantic University with my Bachelor of Science in Biology education, I became a middle school science teacher. Instead of teaching towards the State exam, I focused on teaching towards the standards. This enabled my students to see the relevance in their learning, through collaboration, creation and problem based learning with solar cars/solar ovens. Curiosity and the intrigue of learning prompted me to go down the "rabbit-hole" of STEM at the end of the tunnel, Robotics and a CS certification. The focus was on VEX,physical computing with Microbit, Arduino, sensors, JIMU and Piper computers, (Raspberry Pi).Students dived in with Scratch from MIT, creating their own stories and interactive games .tThey learned that computer science encapsulates so many industries from manufacturing to medical. The exploration of these content areas empowered them to become agents of change in society. The 8.5 year experiences gained in middle school catapulted me to High school as the Magnet and Vocational coordinator. Content connections are cultivated when collaboration and career application is mandated. These lines of discovery are interwoven into the fabric of the courses, because students need to see themselves as engineers, scientists , entrepreneurs and professionals today, to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.

I enjoy meeting the student where they're at in terms of pacing and style of tutoring. For example, while some students appreciate hands on examples, others prefer demonstrations. While some prefer to come to a session with specific questions while others prefer to be given a specific calendar of tasks to work on day by day and so forth.I am excited to continue working with students and hope to get you excited about your educational journey soon!

Learning, studying, even IQ scores, are all skills that can be raised by doing. I can teach you how to study effectively, which is a skill they don't, but should, teach in elementary and high school. There is a system to it, and anyone can learn how to study effectively.

I am a graduate of Florida Atlantic University where I earned a degree in Secondary English Education with a certification in English (6-12) with ESOL Endorsement (FL). Since graduating, I have taught Language Arts in South Florida at the middle school level to students of varied learning needs. Upon moving to New York, I became certified in English Language Arts in order to continue my passion for education. My approach to teaching and tutoring is to guide students toward discovery and passion for learning by giving them support and encouragement that allows them to feel confident in their pursuit of knowledge. Although I enjoy tutoring all things Language Arts, I most enjoy helping students with their reading comprehension and writing skills. Once a love and understanding of reading is developed, learning seems to become second nature. Writing is also a key component to academic success, as it allows a student to confidently express his/her thoughts and ideas. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking vegetarian cuisine, taking my dog to the park, and of course, reading!
