I am an undergraduate student at Emory University majoring in Neuroscience and Chemistry. I was a learning assistant for two intro biology courses at Emory, and provided homework help for child refugees in the non-profit Fugees Academy. I also volunteer as a college advisor to low-income high-school students.Since my freshman year, I've worked as a lab research assistant in biochemistry and neuroscience labs. These research experiences supplement my knowledge of biology, chemistry, and neuroscience, and have allowed me to apply topics learnt in class towards existing problems and in teaching students. As a current student myself, I'm pretty flexible with working hours. Besides binging on Netflix, I love to read and write fiction.

Hi, I'm Erica! I'm an English, literacy, and AP Psychology tutor with 18 years of teaching experience across kindergarten through 12th grade. I specialize in reading, writing, and English Language Arts at every level, as well as AP Psychology. Whether your student is working on foundational reading skills, tackling a tough essay, preparing for an AP English Literature exam, or studying psychological concepts and research methods for the AP Psychology exam, I know how to meet them where they are and move them forward. I hold an M.Ed. in School Leadership from Columbia University Teachers College and a B.A. in Psychology from Emory University. I was also awarded the Fishman Prize, a national recognition given to fewer than five teachers each year for achieving exceptional results with students in under-resourced schools. I bring the same high expectations and personalized approach to every tutoring session. If your student is ready to grow, I am ready to help.
I am a fourth-year student at Emory University, majoring in Biology and minoring in Anthropology. I have experience as a biology and chemistry tutor at the college and high school levels, and can also aid in other subjects, not limited to algebra, reading, writing, test prep, and college preparation. I hope to be a helping hand and reliable teacher to all my students.
I am double majoring in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology and Philosophy at Emory University. I genuinely enjoy working with students to achieve their academic goals. I have experience teaching children and adolescents language skills, science, and math. In my free time, I can mostly be found outside hiking, running, or doing yoga.
Hi! My name is Jingxi "Wincie" Wang and I am a rising senior at Emory University majoring in Math/Econ and Chemistry. I have experiences taking various AP and SAT tests. I want to use my experience and knowledge to help you ace your classes and tests!
I have worked as a tutor for a number of years with students in various subjects and educational levels. While I was in graduate school, in addition to working as a teaching assistant in statistics classes, I tutored students in undergraduate and graduate statistics courses. As a former elementary school teacher, I also worked with students at the elementary/middle school level in English language arts and math.I began my professional career as an elementary school tutor in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. I loved teaching all subjects, but my favorites were writing and math. I currently work as a researcher studying problems related to medical education and medical workforce development.I have a BA from Emory University in pyschology, a master's in elementary education from American University and a PhD from Teachers College, Columbia University in measurement, evaluation and statistics.
A former Princeton graduate student, I am currently a high school teacher and I have been teaching the SAT and GRE for 10 years. I have been able to lift scores up in both math and reading, helping students gain acceptance into schools like Princeton, Harvard, Lehigh, UPenn, Monmouth, and Rutgers. While the SAT may seem daunting, I can show certain techniques and strategies for overcoming it. But it takes more than just techniques to improve on the SAT. I also help students with the "grunt work" needed to improve their score on the SAT. Additionally, I can help all students looking to take the GRE, another of my specialties
Passionate about education, I've taught test prep, middle and high school, subject tutoring such as algebra, geometry and writing, ESL, and music theory and performance. I also have experience as a camp counselor, coach for soccer and basketball, and I have really enjoyed teaching game design courses for middle to high school age students. In my spare time, you'd find me playing music on guitar, piano or Ableton, writing children's books, or reading a book on world history.I am an English major from Emory University, which I attended on a merit-based scholarship. I have been tutoring SAT or ACT prep and other high school subjects for the past 15 years in Asheville, Atlanta, and Miami, and honed my techniques with several excellent organizations before joining Varsity Tutors for their Atlanta launch.I focus on simple strategies that can be applied universally to all sections of testing, while still trying to develop a specific approach for each student, because everyone learns a little differently.I enjoy tutoring SAT prep because I love seeing students make real progress, measurable in their scores, that will help them succeed in their educational and professional lives. Helping someone achieve their goals and dreams is a very rewarding feeling. What most makes me an effective teacher is the breadth of my knowledge and experience - math, literature, history, politics, music, art, journalism, and architecture have all been passions of mine. This variety of experience helps me relate to a wide range of students and teach many different subjects.
Hi! My name is Karim, and I recently graduated from Emory University with a B.S. in Biology and Psychology. I am currently applying to medical schools and hope to become a pediatrician. My hobbies and interests include: singing, spending time with friends when I can, astronomy, working out, staying tuned to scientific discoveries and healthcare reform, catching up on shows like The Daily Show, Dexter, and Big Bang Theory, and listening to music.I have several years worth of experience tutoring and mentoring children ages 5-11 in math, reading, and writing. However, I also have extensive experience tutoring and mentoring in subjects including general and organic chemistry, physics, biology, human physiology, calculus, microbiology, as well as general study skills. I have also helped my friends with college, medical, and dental school admissions essays. I am a very organized and goal-oriented individual who always tries to work as efficiently as possible. The catch phrase I've adopted from my 8th grade algebra teacher is "Work smarter, not harder." When learning concepts, I don't just try to memorize the material-though that is the basis of learning any material. But I always try to connect different concepts together to grasp the larger picture and really get a thorough understanding of the material, allowing me to reason through not only problems I've seen before, but also through ones I haven't. I apply the same philosophy when helping others. I often ask questions to grasp others' understanding of certain material and guide them with their thinking process using diagrams, hand gestures/models, and deductive reasoning. This way I help others to really form a concrete understanding of the material and formulate solutions on their own rather than me just telling them the answers. But of course, sometimes it takes some hints to help them get started, and I am always happy to provide them when I can =) I promise to do my very best to help you achieve your academic goals while also having fun through the learning process. I look forward to working with you!
Hi, my name is Tim, and I teach languages. Why study with me? 3 reasons: I have experience and qualifications, I tailor my lessons to what you need, and I understand the point of view of the student. I have a master's degree in teaching ESL and French, and I have taught for over 30 years. I've taught everyone from kindergartners to senior citizens, I've taught in schools, in companies and hospitals and one-on-one. I've taught English, Japanese, French and Spanish. I lived in Japan for 25 years, but for the last few years I taught Spanish and Japanese in an American middle school. Now I teach at a community college. My experience allows me to tailor my lessons to your needs. I listen to your goals, I observe your language needs and learning styles, and I design practice to help you where you need help. I love learning languages, and I've traveled around the world studying a dozen languages. So I can see things from the point of view of the learner. I can sympathize with both your excitement and your frustration.
Majoring in both Math and Economics, I am beyond proficient in most mathematical and economical fields as well as the major Science subjects. I have taught Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, and Geometry for a charter high school for DeKalb County for four years. I have freelance tutored students in Math, Science, Economics, and test prep for nine years. I have tutored students from kindergarten to graduate school. I am both a certified teacher and tutor for the state of Georgia. I will not only help your student learn, but also work smarter. Well versed in DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, and Henry county schools, I am prepared for whatever problems your student should have. I have a proven track record with student improvement and can guarantee better academic performance. I have experience with test prep, as well, such as the ACT, SAT, SSAT, ISEE, PSAT, and GED. I have worked with numerous students preparing for them for these exams and I thoroughly enjoy seeing their confidence grow.Although I approach each student uniquely, I use a two step method to maximize academic success. The first step is a detailed analysis of how the student learns and identifying strengths and weaknesses. By making sure the student has the basic foundation of proper learning the student won't enter any subject at a disadvantage. The second step is making the student self-sufficient. I want the student to be aware of all resources available to him/her so that any problem can be approached efficiently (i.e. working smarter). I take great care in my craft and would be privileged to assist in any way possible.
I've always loved helping people, even my friends when we were in the same classes. It brings me a lot of satisfaction when I help a student feel more confident in what they are learning. It is so rewarding when I am able to relieve the stigma of certain subjects, especially math, in order for a student to perform well. I hope my work with different students is able to promote the importance of education!
