I am an experienced teacher who is dedicated to helping people improve their language skills. I've been a teacher for the last ten years with a diverse background. Teaching is my passion. It is the only job I see myself doing. I feel most comfortable when in front of a class or helping others on an individual basis.I first starting tutoring in 2001 while studying to be a secondary English teacher at Eastern Michigan University. This experience helped kindle my passion for teaching, especially working with students one on one. After receiving my bachelor's degree in English education, I went back to my alma mater to refine my knowledge in English literature and writing. While studying for my MA in literature, I worked closely with my classmates in study groups. We helped each other break down difficult texts into their essential parts, thus making class discussions and term papers easier to manage. After graduating with honors, I started working at a small community college in Dearborn, Michigan. At Henry Ford Community College, I taught two sections developmental composition. My classes focused on grammar, usage, voice, and creation. Most of my students were either students who spoke English as their second language or who were first generation college students. After a year at HFCC, I spent seven years teaching English as a foreign language in South Korea. I mostly worked with elementary and middle school students, but I did have some adult students as well. I loved helping non-native English speakers improve their language skills, and I loved seeing my younger students develop in all language areas.Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, listening to music, and spending time with my wife and dog. I am an avid reader who enjoys all genres of writing. I also enjoy listening to all sorts of music and discovering new bands and/or artists.

Currently, I am a student at Eastern Michigan University studying linguistics and Japanese. My aim is to graduate in 2017 and continue to teach Japanese and ESL.My experience has varied significantly over the years in terms of subjects taught, age group, and even location. I taught ESL to Japanese students online through SkimaTalk for a few years, then went on to teach Japanese to a high school student in California and another college student in Michigan, and also taught French to a homeschooled student online for 1 year (he is still my student!).

As a teacher, I believe that all children are good. With positive guidance and positive learning experiences, children have the opportunity to display their best qualities. Although some students may not have the same capabilities as another, each should be give equal opportunities in the classroom and school environment. Individual as well as group planning is necessary to account for a multiple of learning strategies. Critical thinking and hands on experience are important in facilitating learning. Together with parents, community and staff I want to help students acquire the fundamental knowledge to prepare themselves for the future.

From the time I was five years old I knew I wanted to be a teacher. It was an unshakable desire in my bones. It comes naturally to me, no matter the setting.In both my current and former positions I worked with other professionals to develop new methods of teaching, development of curriculum and training for both adults and students, and structure the content in the most effective way to deliver the information to the target audience. I am familiar, confident, and comfortable with multimedia in various forms and can apply them to most efficiently deliver educational content.My communication skills allow me to educate others in a way that is easily understood by all modalities of learners. I have a breadth of knowledge in regards to learning theory and use this information to help me guide instruction and professional development. I believe that every student is capable of obtaining knowledge in any given field. Everyone has a class or field that they naturally struggle in (mine is art), but enough time for extra thought and effort will make your goals in the class achievable. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor's of Science in Actuarial Science & Economics in April/2014, and graduated from DePaul University with a Master's of Science in Applied Mathematics. I currently work for the Bureau of Labor Statistics as an Economist.I always liked using numbers to quantify and interpret certain problems; strange to some I know.I will be glad to tutor anyone in courses that require math and/or economic reasoning. Asking why and how a problem is done instead of just asking for the answer is what I'm looking for in a student. I can be of assistance for the whole semester or just for a test coming up for the class. As long as we are scheduling time to ask why and how to approach the problems, I am on board.

I LOVE helping kids overcome obstacles and find the joy of discovery in learning! I have 7 children (that's right, 7!) and I taught all of them at home for many years. Some of my kids have learning disabilities including Autism, ADHD, and Dyslexia/Dysgraphia. I also have kids that are in the gifted category. My own children have helped me gain valuable knowledge of the many different ways children learn best. I am a graduate of Eastern Michigan University in the Aviation technology major. That program resulted in me becoming a certified flight instructor as well as earning a degree! I am truly passionate about helping people reach their highest possible levels as when I was going through grade school I had an undiagnosed learning disability. Throughout the years I found ways to improve my academic performance and helping others through their personal situations is incredibly rewarding! I initially was working towards a degree in Biology but ended up joining the military and developing a passion for aviation, as such I do have a strong understanding of biology. I am a current undergraduate of English Linguistics and will be graduating in fall 2016. I plan on pursuing my Masters and beyond in graduate studies in both Teaching English as a second language and English Linguistics starting in Fall 2017. My GPA within the linguistics program is 3.95 and my overall GPA is 3.8. With full marks in writing and speech as well, I can offer a well-rounded approach to written and spoken communication. Lastly, with a background in Japanese, I have successfully completed 15 credits worth of Japanese with a 4.0, and an average of 3.75 in all Japanese language classes, as well as being a supplemental instructor for the introductory class, this helps me both in Japanese Tutoring through both Genki and Nakama textbooks, or to help facilitate communication with Japanese students looking to learn English.
