I have been a teacher since 2005 and have taught both middle and high school English. I've been a literacy specialist since 2011. I am able to help students with all aspects of English and college application essays. I have a passion for organization and love tutoring executive functioning skills I love helping students understand material in fun ways. Learning shouldn't be boring! I work with students in the way they learn best. I received a BA from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in English and Education. I hold a master's degree in education and an Ed. S. degree in reading and language. I have also taught English as a second language to high school students through a Harvard summer program and to adult learners online. Outside of learning and teaching I enjoy being outside skiing, running, and surfing. In high school and college I played tennis, was on the swim team, and played violin.

As a writing instructor, I believe that my job is not to "tell students what to do," but rather to coach and develop, to ask questions and give feedback as needed. In my experience, students who are open to this feedback--and show an eagerness to grow--are the most rewarding to work with. I believe that written communication is one of the most valuable skills one can master, and that all students, regardless of their past experiences with writing instruction, can become effective communicators of their ideas. I relish the feeling of writing something meaningful and effective, and I hope to impart that same experience to the students I get to work with!
