Hello there! My name is Katie and I just moved to Austin to pursue my teaching career. I just received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in California and I am in the process of transferring it to a Texas Credential. I would describe myself as patient, motivated and enthusiastic- especially when it comes to learning!I am a teacher who inspires my students to be successful by creating a genuine interest in the given subject matter. Students thrive when they are able to make meaningful and personal connections to the curriculum. In order to create a genuine interest in the subject matter, I consistently create interesting a relevant real-life examples. While using fresh and fun examples, I break down subject matter into "bite sized" pieces that build on each other. By breaking down the material, information is much easier for students to digest. This strategy has been particularly successful for my students in the past! While I have had a lot of success in school, I did not always start out that way. I struggled with math in elementary school until I had a tutor who broke down the material for me and made it fun, accessible and engaging. Not only did that tutor peak my interest in learning, she inspired me to overcome my academic challenges. It did not happen over night, but over time I gained so much confidence when I began to understand my learning style and figure out what worked best for ME. My former struggles help me relate better to students who are having difficulties meeting their goals. It has instilled a lot of patience and compassion for the learning process. I know what it feels like to face academic challenges and I am proof that simple yet effective strategies can help a student reach their full potential. I believe it is possible for any student to achieve their learning goals as long as they have the right tools and support to get there. As I tutor my clients I do not just teach, I listen. This helps me understand the best learning styles and approaches for my students. My goal is to make learning fun, accessible and engaging in a way that makes sense to YOU! I am always open to new ideas and feedback every step of the way.

Walt Disney once said, "The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing." I am the first in my family to pursue higher education and graduate from a junior college and, subsequently, a four-year university. My commencement ceremony at Santa Ana College was very inspirational, and it gave me additional motivation to keep striving for academic excellence. I want to become a life-long learner because I want to be able to contribute to my community in a positive way. Knowledge is key to success, and it grants power to whoever possesses it. My character development and integrity are the results of my passion for being successful in and outside the classroom. (Oh My Disney, 2018)As a result of my love for learning, I have graduated from Santa Ana College with A.S. degrees in Business Administration and Economics and became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Also, I received the Rudy Haley International Business scholarship from the Schools First Federal Credit Union for my academic achievement. Currently, at Cal State Fullerton, I am a member of the Phi Beta Delta International Business Honor Society because of my desire to excel in the classroom and become a keen business student at the Mihaylo College of Business of Economics. I strive to be an honor student, so I can set the foundation for my family academically, and be a positive role model for my daughter Riley. Going to school for me is therapeutic, and I appreciate all the knowledge that I acquire while I am in class. I had to fail before I was able to succeed, and I look forward to failing so I can be successful in the future. I take my education very seriously, and it is a top priority in my life right now, along with being a parent to my daughter. My pursuit of academic excellence has to do with my dedication to improving myself every day. I am inspired by the vast and endless knowledge that is readily available to anyone who wants to acquire it. Learning makes me feel empowered and that I can prosper in any environment. By utilizing my character, beliefs, and integrity, I will stand firm against any obstacle that is in front of me. The feeling of accomplishment and knowing that I am setting the foundation for my family is vital as well. I feel that I always want to be enrolled in school and be affiliated with positive people.

I am a few months away from earning a B.S. in biochemistry at California State University of Fullerton. During my time as an undergraduate, I tutored both high school and college level students. I tutored mainly biology and chemistry (CP, honors, AP and SAT II), as well as college level chemistry and biology. Being a student myself, I believe that each student has the potential to excel academically as long as he/she works hard. My teaching philosophy is that a student must fully understand the material, not just learn how to apply it, such that he/she would be successful in the class.

I have had the opportunity to work with a broadrange of individuals, fromchildren to adults. For example, in the course ofteaching one semester (Sixth-grade) while at St. Helen's Catholic School (Southgate, CA) in theLos Angeles, California area, I had the opportunity to interact withchildren ofmanyethnic backgrounds. Later on Iworked for Professional Tutors of America asan Academic Tutor (Yorba Linda, CA). I was also employed by a local tutoring center, more specifically, The Enrichment Center II (La Habra, CA), to mentiona few of the positions whichI have held within the education sector. I am hoping to tutor abroad rangeof individuals. It is my feeling, that one must offer a student choices, versus dictates or commandments, in terms of what they must or must not do, within the context of the learning environment. The student will thereby become more motivated to learn, his or her own, respective subject matter at hand. An instructor should anticipate great things from all of his students, irrespective of a student's talents and abilities. Each student should be treated as an individual, since each learner engages in learning, in his or her own, individual manner. A cookie-cutter approach to teaching, should be eschewed. Finally, learning should be deemed a lifelong pursuit; it should be my role as an academic tutor/educator, to ignite a greater measure of passion, for learning, within the hearts of my students, both present and future.

I enjoy the one-on-one tutoring sessions because it provides a safe environment to learn. I break the sessions into small learning increments to motivate and engage the student. I believe this teaching strategy encourages independent learning and students want to come back to the next session.

My name is Allison Thompson and I absolutely love teaching. I also love learning and consider myself to be a "life long learner." Education is something that is a constant. No matter what age you are, there is always something incredible to learn! Here is some of my background information, I am an experienced classroom and online teacher who holds a Multiple Subject CA Teaching Credential with TESOL/TEFL certifications. In addition I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have over 15 years of experience teaching in a Montessori Pre-School and as a grade level teacher for the public school district NMUSD. My most recent experience has been primarily online for the last 5 years where I have been working for an ESL company as an English Language Learning teacher. I have loved every day of it! I also have enjoyed tutoring on a separate homeschool platform. That specific platform allowed me to use my creativity and Master's Degree knowledge in developing my own curriculum personalized for all different students. I absolutely cannot see myself doing anything else other than online learning for the rest of my teaching career. I love creating and tailoring curriculum to specific age groups and targeting fun educational topics for students of all ages. Some of my favorite class subjects are science, reading, writing, grammar, life skills, health, reading readiness, history, animals, social studies, math, and community citizenship. I enjoy all subjects and teach to the greatest of my ability by implementing fun games, interactive activities, Google Slides, Nearpod lessons, and more. I so hope to meet your learners soon!
