I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bryn Mawr College with my BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and with a minor in Health Studies. I hope to attain my Master's in Anesthesiology Assisting and pursue a career in healthcare. I've tutored high school and middle school students in various subjects while in high school through both the National Honor Society and National Science Honor Society programs. While in college, I was a Chemistry peer mentor and helped many students throughout their courses in that department. I've also worked as a tutor for Chegg for about 4 years and have worked with over 1000 students, garnering over 300 positive reviews during my time there. My tutoring style is very patient and affirming. I know that students can be afraid to say their answers sometimes because they are afraid to be wrong but I encourage this! It's the only way to learn and it helps build their confidence.

Hello! My goals for my students are for them to be successful even after I'm done teaching them. In order to do that, I focus on both content and techniques for retaining information. I specialize in biology (including AP biology, and anatomy and physiology) and chemistry (including organic chemistry, biochemistry, AP chemistry, and general chemistry), but I also love creative writing!
I am a graduate of Bryn Mawr College (PA) with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a graduate of Lewis and Clark College (OR) with a Master of Arts in Teaching. I have been an elementary teacher for 18 years.I love working one-on-one with students to help them understand a concept, gain confidence in a skill, or try out some new strategies. My favorite subject to teach and tutor is Math, but I also enjoy the other elementary subjects as well. I really enjoy finding new ways to reach a student and help them understand a concept.
I am a graduate of Bryn Mawr College, the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University, and Rutgers Law School. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a focus on the U.S. Constitution. My Master's degree is also in Political Science. I currently teach American Government and Political Science at a local college. Previously, I was employed as an assistant prosecutor in NJ for 25 years where I handled dozens of jury trials and specialized in prosecuting domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault. As a result of my jury trial experience, I have exceptional public speaking skills. I have recently retired and am interested in helping folks of all ages succeed! I am committed to improving everyone's life through education and the opportunities education affords. In my job as an assistant prosecutor, I taught hundreds of police officers about changes in the law and prepared them for their tests and reviews. I have two daughters who are still in school so I am aware of the challenges of demanding homework and AP classes. Together, we can succeed!
I am currently a math tutor in the Portland metro area, working with underprivileged and at-risk youth. I teach supplemental algebra classes as well as help students prepare to pass the GED test and earn credit recovery.I have a Masters in Geological Sciences from the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Arts in Geology from Bryn Mawr College. As a masters student, I taught environmental science labs and helped to curate science curriculum for elementary and middle-school teachers. Although my speciality lies in earth sciences, I have attained an extensive math, physics, chemistry, and english background throughout my studies. My philosophy is to work smarter, not harder! I love to teach students how to build a framework to efficiently learn the subject material, which reduces anxiety and makes their goal more attainable. In my free time I enjoy hiking and looking at rocks! I love music and try to go to as many shows as possible and messing around on instruments of all types.
I am a senior at Bryn Mawr College majoring in Sociology and minoring in Child and Family Studies and Education. I am currently wrapping up my teaching certification program teaching American History in a Philadelphia public school. I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring English, History and essay writing with elementary, middle and high school students. I strongly believe learning is a collaborative, student directed process and I love helping students acquire long-term learning skills. My favorite part of teaching is watching students gain confidence and pride in their work; eureka moments make my day!
My love of physics and math began when I was 3 years old, watching Julius Sumner Miller do physics experiments on TV. I discovered my love of teaching as an undergrad at the University of Mount Union, where I served as a teaching assistant in the intro physics labs. It was so thrilling to help students reach "a-ha" moments where everything clicks! I was hooked, and I've been teaching ever since! After earning my Bachelor's in physics with minors in mathematics and music, I went to Bryn Mawr College for graduate school, where I earned my Master's studying dark matter, and my Ph.D. studying atomic physics. While I was there, I taught in various labs, ran problem solving sessions for the pre-med physics course, and tutored several students one-on-one. After graduating, I spent three years as a visiting professor at Austin College. I think the best way to learn something is to DO it, so my teaching style is focused on helping my students actively engage with the material. I like to have back-and-forth conversations with my students to see where they are with the material, and to help guide them to a deeper understanding. I also like to use lots of examples, demos, and hands-on activities to help solidify abstract concepts.
As a non-native speaker of Spanish and French, I recognize the immensely positive impact learning foreign languages can have on one's life. However, learning foreign languages is a challenging, long term process that requires dedication. That dedication is not just the responsibility of the student, but of language teachers as well. As a teacher I am committed to making connections with students in a fun, positive way that fosters not just an appreciation for the language but a solid understanding of language fundamentals, such as grammar. I truly teaching and feel there is no obstacle to learning that is insurmountable. Fun is also a critical part of the process, and I always do my very best to make sure my students are having the best time possible while strengthening their language skills.
I am currently working on an MA at Columbia University Teacher's College, and have a BA in English from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. I spent last year tutoring 5th graders in literacy and math through AmeriCorps, and I plan to use my degree to encourage elementary and middle school students to love and appreciate literature as much as I do.I love tutoring because I feel that individual attention is an important facet of the learning process. By working one-on-one with students tutors can learn more about students' interests and learning styles, and incorporate them into the tutoring process. Academic subjects can be so much more interesting for students if they feel that the subject has a direct impact on their lives. I love it when a student's face lights up with the realization that she truly understands the concept on which we are working. These kinds of realizations inspire confidence in students, a feeling which only leads to greater learning and achievements in the future.
I am a native Spanish speaker with 4+ years of tutoring experience. Since my freshman year of college, I tutored peers from all grade levels who struggled with the acquisition of Spanish as a second language and help them become proficient in their communication in a foreign language. I held various positions within Bryn Mawr College's tutoring program that allowed me to envision the tutoring experience from various points of view. As the Departmental Liaison Chair, I provided more resources for tutors, fostered a positive relationship with the professors whose subjects we tutored, met their needs, and shared input from professors with the Academic Support and Learning Specialist. As Head Tutor for languages, I hired tutors, coordinated their schedules, and mediated conflicts. As a bilingual tutor, I am very patient and empathetic when teaching a new language. I have a growth mindset. Instead of saying to myself I'm not good at something, I ask myself what am I missing. If something is hard, I tell myself it will take time and effort. These principles help me improve as a tutor and guide students to take success into their own hands. I use all the resources I have available and do everything I can to find new ones to develop effective tutoring and study strategies.I scored high on this SAT Spanish Subject Test and have great understanding of the College Board's multiple-choice question. I earned a high score (5) on the AP Spanish Literature exam. My critical thinking skills and mastery of the Spanish language helped me structure my responses on the essay portion of the exam. I also understand the College Board's multiple-choice question.
I just graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a Bachelor's in English. Most of my teaching experience comes from helping the children I babysit with their homework, and from teaching my peers how to knit. I tutor English, any grades, with a focus on writing, because that is what my education has prepared me for. I want to help students reach their full potential, and adjust my teaching style to how they learn. I prefer to teach by example; explaining what I am doing, then having the student try and correcting any errors.
I am an experienced tutor and an aspiring historian. I hope to pursue graduate school in the next couple years, but I also love children. I've tutored children in both elementary school and high school, and love connecting curriculum to their experiences and current events. My hobbies are vegan cooking and baking and taking care of my cat, Jiji.
