The LSAT is necessary for acceptance into many law schools, and Varsity Tutors can help you find a Syracuse LSAT prep course that could make a difference in how you feel about the test. LSAT stands for Law School Admission Test, and it's the only standardized test that is accepted by all ABA-accredited law schools across America. In addition, the LSAT is also accepted by common-law law schools in Canada. You should try your very best to perform well when you take your LSAT. Students who are serious about their future careers and their acceptance into law schools will want to study very hard for this test, and an LSAT prep course could help you study to the best of your abilities.
The LSAT is designed to ensure you're ready for law school. Performing well on your LSAT could make a real difference when it comes to where you attend school. Law schools such as the Syracuse University College of Law take your scores into account when processing applications. The test focuses on many skills and concepts which are important for future law professionals. These skills might include logic, reasoning, and reading comprehension.
When you take the LSAT, you'll be given a digital tablet with which to answer questions. Because this test is in multiple-choice format, all you need to do is tap on the screen to choose the correct answer. These tablets also have a few useful features that could help you as you make your way through the test. The tablets show a timer that tells you how much time is remaining, and there's even a five-minute warning function. You can also use your tablet to highlight portions of a passage to help you retain key information. You'll also have the ability to flag any questions that you might want to return to later.
The LSAT is split into four sections, although only three are administered in-person, and only these three sections are scored. The other section is the Writing section, and you'll have one year to complete this section through a secure online platform. Although this section does not count towards your final score, copies of your writing will be sent to law schools when you apply to them. The other three sections are Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, and Logical Reasoning. These are the three sections you'll be navigating with your digital tablet.
What Might A Syracuse LSAT Course Cover?
When you sign up for a Syracuse LSAT course, you'll join a group of other like-minded students in a virtual classroom setting. You'll be taught by a highly qualified instructor who knows all about the LSAT. As you progress through your lessons, you'll have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the LSAT and what it takes to perform well on this important test. Your instructor might first give you a rundown on the general outline of the test before diving into the specifics of each section. Each section will deal with many different concepts.
The Reading Comprehension section will involve written passages that are very similar to those you might encounter in law school. You'll read these passages, analyze them, and answer questions based on their content. You might be asked to state the main idea or purpose of the written text, make inferences, and assess the author's attitudes. You might also be asked to analyze tone, structure, principles, and functions within the text. Be prepared for complex, long-form passages. This section will take 35 minutes to complete.
Analytical Reasoning focuses on relationships and the structure of those relationships as communicated in written text. You'll be asked to read passages and then make conclusions based on the types of relationships you encounter. You might be asked to propose solutions to various problems mentioned in the text. You might also be asked to use reason using conditional statements or make inferences based on what might be true or false. This section will also take 35 minutes.
Logical Reasoning is the longest section in the test, and it will take about 70 minutes to complete. In this section, you'll be asked to read over arguments from source materials such as newspapers, magazines and scholarly publications. Assessing arguments is something that law professionals do every single day, and the skills assessed in this section are quite important. You'll be asked to analyze the arguments that you encounter and answer a wide range of questions pertaining to these arguments. You might be asked to identify weaknesses, misunderstandings, assumptions, and much more.
The final part of the LSAT is the Writing section. You'll be asked to take a position or make a decision based on a hypothetical situation. You'll then be asked to defend your decision in an essay. Even though this section isn't scored, you'll probably want to do your best, as law schools will read these essays as part of the application process.

I love working with every type of student to help them reach their goals. As an English Ph.D. student, literature remains at the center of my educational journey. Reading and the skills that come with it--comprehension, analysis, critical thinking, empathy--are of utmost importance. I work hard to balance between challenging and encouraging my students. My excitable disposition and energy help to motivate learning and reinforce confidence in their own minds.

I am currently in law school and completing a masters degree in international relations. I hold an undergraduate degree in finance, and have previously worked designing new financial products. I believe in teaching with real world concepts that students can relate to, so the material can be learned for more than just passing a test.... Cater to the learning style of the individual.... Determine our goals, what success means to us, and try to figure out how the student learns most effectively.

I tutor the LSAT because I know it's a hard test and I know what it's like to struggle with it. However I also understand the process necessary to produce better scores, and nothing is more satisfying to me than helping someone achieve what seemed impossible a few months ago.... Your score is a product of so many factors--your understanding of the material, your speed, even how accurately you bubble answers--but in the end it all comes down to whether you studied the test from every angle and put in the time necessary to get the results you want.
