Varsity Tutors can connect prospective graduate students with Seattle GRE prep resources and help you get an efficient start to studying for that particular graduate school entrance exam. We know how important the test is and we want to help you to strengthen your understanding of the academic concepts necessary to reach towards your goals . Whether you're looking for a Seattle GRE tutor for one-on-one instruction or you are more comfortable with a program that mimics more of a traditional classroom, we can get you enrolled in a Seattle GRE prep class.
It doesn't matter if you're a working professional who has chosen to go back to school, or an undergraduate student who wants to continue your education. Whether you're applying for graduate programs at Seattle Pacific University or the University of Washington Graduate School, it's a great idea to study with help before you sit down and take the exam. Admissions boards at many schools look at your exam scores to weigh whether or not they think you'll succeed in their programs.
What does Seattle GRE prep include?
This 3.75 hour exam examines a variety of skills, like how effectively you can maintain a coherent discussion in the Analytical Writing section, how well you can draw meaning from context in the Verbal Reasoning section, and how efficiently you can use logical reasoning and problem solving skills to find the answers to questions. If you're just starting to study, you may want to seek support through a Seattle GRE tutor or a Seattle GRE prep class.
There are three scored sections in the GRE exam, and two that are unscored. The scored sections are Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. The two unscored sections are an Experimental section, and a Research section.
You'll have just under four hours to complete the entire exam. When you work with a Seattle GRE tutor, you may gain an understanding of what the test looks like, and what you can expect to see when you sit down to take it. Let's start by diving into the Quantitative Reasoning section.
The Quantitative Reasoning section is split into two subsections with 20 questions. Data analysis, basic math skills, arithmetic, pre-algebra and geometry are the concepts you'll be tested on. You'll see three types of questions: numeric entry, quantitative comparison, and multiple-choice. You'll be asked to choose the best answer from the multiple-choice questions, and there could be more than one correct answer.
In the Verbal Reasoning section, where there are two subsections with 20 questions, you'll find that it covers reading comprehension, sentence equivalence, and test completion. To determine your level of reading comprehension, you'll have to read a passage and answer questions. There will be ten passages per test, and maybe up to six questions about each passage. In the sentence equivalence section, you'll get a sentence with partial information and you'll be asked to choose the best possible answer to complete the sentence. For test completion, you can expect to be asked to choose the best answer (from up to five options) for blank spots in short passages.
In the Analytical Writing section, you'll be directed to analyze an issue, as well as a task. You'll have 30 minutes to complete each of those. This portion of the exam looks at how well you can express complicated concepts and provide examples and reasons to support your ideas. It'll also test how you evaluate information given, and whether you can keep the discussion of a topic focused and clear.
Two unscored sections allow test designers to float potential questions for future exams. The Experimental section, if it is included, will be embedded in the Verbal Reasoning or Quantitative Reasoning sections. You will not get clear identification of that section's inclusion. If there's a research section, it will be identified and may take the place of the Experimental section. The Research section is optional.
What are the benefits of Seattle GRE prep?
There are a couple of different ways that you can get started with Seattle GRE preparation. The two methods are one-on-one instruction with a Seattle GRE tutor or a Seattle GRE prep class with other students who are also getting ready for their GRE. Both methods have benefits and sometimes students may find it helpful to combine both models of academic coaching services. At Varsity Tutors, we can help you find what you need in either method, or even a combination of the two.
For individuals who prefer a group-like setting where you can bounce ideas off of others and have focused discussions, taking part in a Seattle GRE prep class online with our Live Learning platform is a great start. Interacting with other students can help you strengthen your understanding of complicated topics that you struggle with, whether that's Quantitative Reasoning, or the Analytical Writing section. This model allows more flexibility than people might expect. You can take your classes wherever you're comfortable, as long as you have internet access, and you can choose from two-week or four-week classes. There are new sessions each week, so there's no worrying about having to join a class that's already in progress.
For those who prefer individual attention, we can connect you with a Seattle GRE prep tutor. This mode of study also has quite a bit of flexibility. There are two ways to meet with your academic coach: in person in an agreed-upon location, or via the internet, through the Live Learning Platform. Your instructor will get to know you starting with your very first session, and they'll create a schedule that accommodates your life and theirs, as well as a set of lessons that you can adjust and modify as needed. Their plan will help you to focus on the tougher topics, and still highlight the subjects you're strong in. They'll find strategies that work with your learning style, and your academic strengths and weaknesses.
