If you're searching for professional Phoenix GRE prep to help you improve your academic confidence heading into the test, Varsity Tutors is the only resource you'll ever need. The GRE, or Graduate Records Examination, is a high-stakes exam written to assess a candidate's readiness for the rigors of a graduate-level curriculum. Programs at institutions such as the University of Arizona can vary in the weight they apply to your test score, but reporting a strong score can only improve your application.
Studying for the GRE is tough, but we offer two test prep solutions to help you out. First, we can find you a Phoenix GRE prep course to help you study in a structured learning environment. Alternatively, we can set you up with a private Phoenix GRE tutor for a more personalized study experience. Either way, you'll wonder how you ever prepared for a high-stakes exam without the assistance of Varsity Tutors.
What topics can I review during my Phoenix GRE prep?
The GRE is a computer-based exam consisting of three sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Both Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning utilize multiple-choice formats in 20-question buckets, though you have 70 minutes total for the Quantitative section while you only get 60 for the Verbal. Both of these sections are scored on a scale from 130-170.
The Analytical Writing section contains two separately-timed essay "tasks." You get 30 minutes to plan and compose each of your essays, and the section is scored together on a scale from 0-6. There may also be an Experimental or Research section on your exam. If present, the Experimental section is embedded into the Verbal or Quantitative section to test future exam items, while the Research section is a distinct section at the end of the exam that you may choose to skip.
Since the Experimental and Research sections are not scored, there is no reason to spend any time on them during your test prep. Here is a breakdown of what you can expect on each of the scored sections:
1. Verbal Reasoning
The Verbal Reasoning section contains three different types of questions. First, you have reading comprehension items that assess how well you internalize what you read. Next, you have text completions that require you to fill in the blanks of a short passage. Finally, sentence completions are comparable to text completions, except that you only have a partial sentence to work with and you need to identify two correct answers per item. This section measures how well you can draw conclusions, infer information about the whole through its parts, and summarize information.
2. Quantitative Reasoning
The Quantitative Reasoning section measures your basic math skills, understanding of mathematical concepts, and quantitative problem-solving skills. Items are drawn from a variety of topics, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. There are three problem types on this section: quantitative comparisons, numeric entry, and multiple-choice. You may need to select more than one correct response per item.
3. Analytical Writing
The Analytical Writing section is comprised of "issue" and "argumentative" tasks. For the issue task, you need to write an informative essay about a random topic randomly selected from a list released before the exam. For the argumentative task, you need to critique another author's argument. This section serves to measure how well you can articulate complex ideas, construct a logical argument using evidence, examine claims, and express yourself in writing.
What are the benefits of each of the Phoenix GRE preparation options available to me?
If you choose to take a Phoenix GRE prep class, you'll study on our live virtual platform with a knowledgeable instructor and several other students preparing to take the exam. We vet every teacher, so you can trust that you will be learning from a great communicator who knows everything there is to know about the GRE. Your instructor will also be available for private study sessions outside of your usual class time, allowing you to seek extra help on an as-needed basis.
Many students also find working with others advantageous. Our live virtual platform allows you to interact with your classmates just as easily as your instructor, so you can all work together and establish a collaborative learning environment to help further your understanding of academic concepts. You can also exchange test-taking tips and strategies that are sure to come in handy on the exam. For example, completing an Analytical Writing outline as a group can help steer your mind toward ideas and relationships that you never would have come up with on your own. Working with others also helps you save money, as you can all split the cost of expert instruction.
If you would rather study at your own pace, a private instructor might be a better choice for you. Your educator can take the time to understand your preferred learning style and adapt their teaching methods accordingly, potentially improving your study efficiency. You can also gloss over topics you understand to keep your sessions engaging. For example, a math whiz probably doesn't need to prepare as much for the Quantitative Reasoning section of the GRE as the rest of the test.
We also try to make all of our services as convenient for you as we can. If you want to take a class, we offer two and four-week sessions to make it easier to fit something into your schedule. We also start new classes every week, ensuring that it's always a great time to jump in and start working toward your future. Similarly, you can use our exclusive Live Learning Platform to study online if you decide to work with a private instructor. You are also in complete control over when your private tutoring takes place, mitigating the scheduling conflicts often associated with standardized test prep.
