How can a Science tutor help you?

Science is more than white lab coats and bubbling test tubes. Science students learn both how the world works, and how to figure out how anything and everything may work. In addition to lectures, most science classes also let students get hands-on experience in laboratory sessions that show them firsthand how scientific principles are applied.

However, some students may feel intimidated, frustrated, or confused by how their teacher presents this vital information. If your child has issues with getting top marks in science class, a personal tutor may help. Varsity Tutors may help you find a professional science tutor in Albuquerque, NM, who may offer engaging study sessions to make the most use of your child's time. An expert science tutor may not only teach your child basic scientific concepts, but also how to reach their own conclusions with the "scientific method."

Science Tutoring review by Daria in Albuquerque, NM
We spent the majority of the time reviewing for the final in physical science. We talked about the scientific method as well as basic physics concepts including gravity, inertia/momentum, and Newton's laws. I encouraged him to review beyond what we had done and try and challenge himself with word problems that apply the concepts he learned in class.

I helped the student review for his science final exam. We covered general concepts such as speed, velocity, displacement, force, and the laws of motion. In addition, I helped him make a review study guide. We went through his textbook and pulled out the most important definitions and formulas. Overall, he said that it was very helpful and that he was feeling prepared for his exam.

Science Tutoring review by Vincent in Albuquerque, NM
Today, the student's parents asked me to help him prepare to retake a test over introductory chemistry that he previously had not done well on. We started by looking over his original test and discussing the answers he had gotten incorrect. At first, he seemed to struggle with questions about the periodic table of elements, and about the Law of Conservation of Mass, but he began to ask some questions which provided him with greater understanding. Later, we looked at a review for the retake, which went over points in the previous test. At this point, he did a lot better at answering the questions, and when he was unsure, I tried to provide real-world examples of the concepts in question. At the end, I asked him a couple of follow up questions about the Law of Conservation of Mass, and of endothermic and exothermic reactions, which he answered correctly. He seemed a lot more confident with the topics than when we had started.

Science Tutoring review by Kandice in Albuquerque, NM
This was combined session with student #1 and student #2 to review their science exam. We began the session with identifying what concepts they did remember vs. ones they had a question about or didn't know. Then I had them work together to review concepts they need further review on. I also explained and summarized a few concepts that they didn't quite understand from reading the book. I think that it will be good moving forward to make sure they are reading for understanding in their science textbooks as well as doing experiential based projects to synthesize learning.

Science Tutoring review by Hayden in Albuquerque, NM
Today gave us the opportunity to review carbohydrates and glycolysis. The student has shown that he is able to accurately draw cyclic and linear monosaccharides on any quiz, which is certainly encouraging. We then proceeded to discuss glycogenesis and glycogenolysis and how they offset each other with the use of hormones and allosteric regulators. We finished the session by talking about glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. He did a much better job this time around understanding the steps of these opposing processes as well as the allosteric regulators and key enzymes. I left him with a review guide that outlines all of the key aspects of each process covered so far. He and I plan to meet next week in order to review the pentose phosphate pathway as well as the citric acid cycle.

Science Tutoring review by Samuel in Albuquerque, NM
We discussed the basics of chemical bonding, balancing of chemical equations, and also completing chemical reactions. We wrote notes and used actual drawing out of molecules to help visualize the concept of chemical bonds and how molecules look. We used stepwise methods to characterize chemical reactions to completions, and also stepwise methods for balancing chemical equations.
