PCAT Writing Tutoring FAQ
If you are preparing to take the Pharmacy College Admission Test, or PCAT, you may be spending most of your review time brushing up on your knowledge of biology, chemistry, and mathematics. While these subjects are certainly core elements of the exam, it is also important to make sure that you are prepared to demonstrate all of your writing skills on the PCAT's Writing section. While many pre-pharmacy students have followed an academic track that has prepared them to face the exam's science and math-based sections, presenting a potential solution to a complex problem in cogent and thoughtful prose may be a skill in which you have received relatively little instruction.
If you are concerned that a weak PCAT Writing score could detract from your exam results and make you a less appealing candidate to pharmacy schools, consider reaching out to Varsity Tutors today. The organization's educational directors will help you find a custom-tailored PCAT Writing tutor who is best suited for your needs. Private PCAT Writing tutoring is distinguished from other study options by the degree to which your tutor designs your sessions around your particular academic needs. Our educational directors can help you select the PCAT Writing tutor well matched to assisting you based on a number of criteria that provide insight into your particular academic situation, such as your learning style, your strengths and weaknesses, and even your personality. Your tutor can then analyze your current writing abilities and collaborate with you to design a test-prep plan that emphasizes the facets of writing you personally find to be most difficult.
The awesome thing about your tutor is that she or he is completely professional, knowledgeable, and has experienced the PCAT personally. Thus, test-taking strategies will be discussed and shared. Because of your effectual tutoring sessions, you will not feel overwhelmed on test day, and you will be amply prepared. You will also have the confidence to ace the terminology, present your thoughts in a clear and concise way, and you will impress any colleges and universities. By avoiding needless review of concepts you already understand, your PCAT Writing tutoring can be extremely focused, productive, and efficient. In each of your one-on-one tutoring sessions, your tutor can help you learn to approach PCAT-style writing prompts in a way that allows you to maximize the quality of your responses. She or he can help you learn to manage the section's thirty minutes of allotted time wisely to find your perfect balance of outlining, drafting, and proofreading your work. Do not risk letting a subpar performance on the PCAT Writing section detract from otherwise superb scores.
You never have to worry about being too busy, or not having enough time to complete your tutoring sessions, as these professional instructors are accommodating, patient, and flexible. The Varsity Tutors live learning platform allows you to meet with a private tutor either in person or face-to-face online. This gives you the flexibility to meet with your tutor at the time and location of your choice. If you choose to meet in person, you can meet at your home, a library, or a coffee shop; that is no problem, as your tutor is willing to travel to you and work around your schedule and special accommodations. Separate yourself from the latter, and get an edge on your peers by experiencing the firsthand professionalism of a tutor. Get great PCAT counsel, proven strategies, and learn the necessary material that is needed to be successful on all examinations and future pharmaceutical endeavors. You will not regret the extra time that you spend learning, reviewing, and mastering the concepts. Contact Varsity Tutors educational directors today to learn more about the specific PCAT Writing tutoring options available in your area, or to begin scheduling your first tutoring session.

Recent PCAT Writing Tutoring Session Notes
This was our first session. I had assigned him sections from the practice test. We discussed the essays, one of which he had prepared, the other of which he was a bit hesitant about. Then, we worked through a number of the verbal problems, discussing general strategies as well as addressing particular issues. With regards to math, we began working through the section I assigned. We discussed the plan for homework and assigned the appropriate problems from the prep book as an introduction both to mechanics and to basic math review: chapters 7 (arithmetic), 8 (algebra), and 11 (fractions and decimals). Likewise, I assigned the first 30 problems in each of the chapters for sentence completion and sentence equivalence.
The student and I met for one of our final session of GRE tutoring. In this session we first practiced the verbal portion. We then practiced probability as well as permutations and combinations. He seemed to understand the procedure if not the underlying concepts. We will see if this knowledge sticks.
The student and I went looked at several math sections. For each question, she told me how she would approach the question and I offered suggestions on question she had trouble with. I also emphasized question types and topics which commonly appeared on the exam. We also went over the homework she had completed.
We had an introductory session where we talked about goals for the test, went over testing basics, and practiced some verbal and quantitative question types. The student will be practicing vocabulary and taking a practice test before the next session to get an idea of her strengths and weaknesses moving forward so that we can better focus our sessions.
Covered all the verbal sections. Gave her a checklist that I use when completing SE and TC questions. For RC advised her to read slower and use an outline. The outline should help her see how one paragraph leads to another.
We worked on the essay portions and math of the student's practice test. In the essay portion, she needs to focus on tying each point to the question asked in the prompt.
In math, remember that any question involving an equation with x^2 will probably require a quadratic equation solution.
