What is on the Oregon bar exam?
The Oregon bar exam consists of four different parts, including the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), the Multistate Essay Exam (MEE), the Multistate Performance Test (MPT), and the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE). The Oregon bar exam costs $750 to take if you are not currently an attorney and $1,125 if you are an attorney.
The MBE contains 200 multiple-choice questions and takes six hours to finish. The goal of the MBE is to establish that you have the ability to apply legal reasoning and principles to analyze fact patterns. The MBE is comprised of a wide range of categories, including Jurisdiction and Venue, Jury Trials, Appealability and Review, and Verdicts and Judgments. The Jurisdiction and Venue category examines federal subject-matter jurisdiction, personal jurisdiction, service of process and notice, and forum non conveniens. The Jury Trials category looks at the right to a jury trial, the selection and composition of juries, and requests for and objections to jury instructions. The Appealability and Review category covers the availability of interlocutory review, the final judgment rule, and the scope of review for judge and jury. Finally, the Verdicts and Judgments category goes over defaults and dismissals, jury verdicts, judicial findings and conclusions, and claim and issue preclusion.
The MEE consists of six questions and you will have 30 minutes to answer each one. The goal of the MEE is to measure your ability to identify legal issues that are raised by a hypothetical situation, decide which material is relevant and which material is not, present a reasoned analysis that is clear and concise, and demonstrate that you understand the legal principles that are relevant to the solution. The MEE is similar to the MBE, but the main difference is that the MEE requires you to demonstrate that you can communicate effectively through writing.
The MPT consists of two questions and you will have 90 minutes to finish each one. The MPT involves being able to sort through detailed material and separate which material is relevant and what isn't, analyzing administrative materials for applicable principles of law, applying the relevant laws to the relevant facts in a way that solves the client's problem, being able to communicate effectively through writing, and being able to complete a task within a given timeframe. Activities that you may have to complete include writing a letter to a client, writing a closing argument, developing a discovery plan, and writing a proposal for a settlement.
The MPRE consists of 60 multiple-choice questions and you will have two hours to complete it. The MPRE is designed to test your understanding of the established standards connected to the professional conduct of lawyers. The exam is made up of a variety of categories, including Competence and Legal Malpractice, Judicial Conduct, Lawyers' Duties to the Public and the Legal System, and Communications about Legal Services.
The Competence and Legal Malpractice category covers malpractice insurance and risk prevention, limiting liability for malpractice, civil liability to clients, and maintaining competence. The Judicial Conduct category examines maintaining the independence and impartiality of the judiciary, performing the duties of judicial office competently and diligently, disqualification, and extrajudicial activities.
The Lawyers' Duties to the Public and Legal System category looks at voluntary pro bono service, accepting appointments, law reform activities affecting client interests, and political contributions to obtain engagements or appointments. Finally, the Communications about Legal Services category consists of referrals, communications regarding fields of practice and specialization, group legal services, and advertising.
How can Oregon bar exam tutoring sessions help me prepare for my exam?
One of the advantages of letting us connect you with Oregon bar exam tutors is that you can study with someone who allows you to pick which topics you want to prioritize. When you study with a group, there is no guarantee that you will be able to focus on the topics you need the most assistance with. For example, if your group members are stuck on solicitation, but you are having a hard time with expediting litigation, your group may spend most of its time reviewing concepts you already know while not focusing much at all on the topics you need the most assistance with.
This isn't an issue when you let us set you up with an Oregon bar exam coach because you can work with someone who gives you complete freedom over the topics you want to study.
While reviewing content is an integral part of preparing for your exam, it can also be valuable to work on developing test-taking skills. One of the most effective ways of doing this is by taking regular practice exams. One skill that practice assessment can help with is time management. As you get more familiar with the structure of the exam, you can gain a better understanding of exactly how much time you should spend on each question. Your personal mentor can also use your practice exams as a diagnostic tool as they can identify exactly which concepts you need to spend extra time reviewing.
How can I fit Oregon bar exam training sessions into my busy schedule?
Finding time in your schedule for extra study sessions can be a hurdle to overcome. You may have other commitments that take up most of your day and make the thought of adding anything else in seem overwhelming. This doesn't have to be the case, though.
When you let us sign you up for Oregon bar exam tutoring sessions, you can choose between online and in-person instruction. One of the benefits of signing up for online instruction is that it eliminates the need for you to have to travel to meet up with Oregon bar exam tutors. You can talk to your instructor about the regulation of corporate speech over video chat via our Live Learning Platform. You can do this from any location with a stable internet connection, such as from your house or a local coffee shop.
An additional perk of online Oregon bar exam training is that you can work with your personal mentor on a shared document editor and a virtual whiteboard. Both of these features are useful because they allow you to go over concepts like duress and undue influence in detail with your private tutor while receiving immediate feedback. If you ever need a refresher on a topic like expectation interest, you can refer back to your previous tutoring sessions as all of them are recorded.
