A PARCC class can give your student the guidance they need to prepare for the assessment tests they may face throughout their academic career. The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is a series of assessments administered by Maryland, New Mexico, the District of Columbia, and New Jersey. Louisiana and Colorado also blend PARCC questions with their own state-issued exams. Overall, these tests aim to assess student skill and development starting from Kindergarten. You can help your student take advantage of valuable support through one-on-one PARCC courses led by a skilled instructor.
Your student's PARCC prep classes are designed to suit their individual needs and goals. They can work with a personal tutor who understands that no two students learn the same way. Your student's tutor can implement a custom-tailored PARCC course plan that encompasses their learning style, interests, and curriculum.
From third to 11th grade, students receive two tests: Math and English Language Arts/Literacy. Below you can view a breakdown of the unit testing times for each high school-level subject test:
Spring 2018 Unit Testing Times for High School
Subject(s)/Course(s) | Unit | Section | Unit Testing Time (Minutes) |
Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Integrated Mathematics 1, 2, 3 | Unit 1 | Non-calculator | 90 |
Calculator | |||
Unit 2 | Calculator | 90 | |
Unit 3 | Calculator | 90 | |
ELA/Literacy Grade 9 ELA/Literacy Grade 10 ELA/Literacy Grade 11 |
Unit 1 | 90 | |
Unit 2 | 90 | ||
Unit 3 | 90 |
A personal PARCC prep class can help your student build their time management skills to ensure that they meet their exam's testing time limits. One-on-one learning may incorporate a variety of hands-on activities, such as practice tests and sample questions. Your student's PARCC course can focus on the academic topics that your student has the most room for improvement in, rather than encompassing the entire exam in general. This can bring efficiency to each prep class while eliminating topics that they are confident in.
There are several topics covered on each exam, depending on the grade level of the test-taker. Their tutor can explore the topics on a deeper level while expanding on their pre-existing knowledge. Your student can spend PARCC classes exploring concepts like:
PARCC English Topics (Non-Comprehensive)
- Critical thinking
- Vocabulary
- Written Expression
- Narrative Writing
PARCC Math Topics (Non-Comprehensive)
- Mathematical reasoning
- Applications of concepts in a real-world context
- Products and quotients
- Multiplication and division
- Two-step problems
Your student can pick and choose what concepts they focus on during their PARCC prep courses. Their tutor can find new ways to approach different types of problems, whether they find a new way to reword it or they use physical materials to explain the process. Your student's tutor can halt a PARCC class to hear out their questions, as well as provide comprehensive answers and explanations in a way that your student can comprehend.
One-on-one learning has many advantages that your student can enjoy. They can engage with their instructor while receiving the tutor's full and undivided attention. Their tutor can demonstrate testing strategies that can allow them to relax during the PARCC, as well as studying techniques that can ease the stress of their independent studies. These and other skills can be invaluable to your student's academic future.
You don't have to stress about your schedule with a private tutor. We can connect you with an instructor who can work with you and your student's schedules. Your student can also participate in face-to-face online sessions to keep studying as convenient as possible.
Varsity Tutors can't wait to help you find a fantastic private PARCC prep course for your student. Our Educational Directors are ready to answer your questions as well as help you start connecting with an expert PARCC tutor who can work with your student's needs.

...mine. It is a pleasure to help children grow and learn every day. Sometimes, in a whole group classroom setting, students can get lost in the chaos of it all, but with tutoring, the focus is solely on one student and their specific needs. I look forward to discussing in depth what your student's challenges are, as well as their strengths. We then will set goals off of some baseline data and work from there....

...be successful. I strongly believe in helping students develop a growth mindset, which they can take into any educational experience. I have been teaching in the DC area for 3 years, and understand the demands of the Common Core Standards, PARCC, SAT and other exams. I am familiar with ELA and history content at both the middle and high school level, and I also enjoy teaching and reinforcing basic skills, especially in writing.... I believe in creating authentic curriculum that allows students to tackle real world problems and challenges. I find that students are more engaged and motivated when they are doing rigorous and authentic work, and they often come up with some creative and unique ideas! I believe that all students have the ability to learn and that developing a growth mindset is one of the most important components of education.

I am a passionate educator with a love of learning and teaching! I have three years of teaching experience (grades 1-5) at a technology school. I understand that each individual student learns differently and I have ample experience finding resources and instructional methods to match the needs of each learner. I hold all students to the highest expectations and believe that all children are capable of success.... My philosophy is centered around the core concept of teaching children how to be problem solvers. They need to know how to approach and think about any given problem. It is okay to make mistakes, as they are learning opportunities. Persistence and confidence in oneself as a learner are the key skills to ensure success in life.
