Whether your student is just starting to prepare for the ISEE or they've run into issues part of the way through, enrolling them in a Detroit ISEE class by reaching out to Varsity Tutors could prove beneficial. The ISEE is used by numerous private schools as a part of their admissions process. As such, it can be helpful to enroll your student in a Detroit ISEE class so that they have some assistance when it comes to preparing for the exam.
Depending on your student's grade level, students may take one of four different levels of the exam. Students who are going into second grade can take the Primary Level exam. The Lower Level exam is available to students who are going into fifth or sixth grade. Students who are going into seventh or eighth grade can take the Middle Level and the Upper Level is available for students going into the ninth grade. The Lower Level, Middle Level, and Upper Level exams all contain the same number of sections, the same number of questions in each section, and students have the same amount of time to complete each section. The Primary Level exam only has between three or four sections depending on grade level while the other three levels have five sections.
What can a Detroit ISEE class help my student review?
A Detroit ISEE class can help your student review material that may show up in each section of the ISEE. This can range from topics related to reading, writing, and math depending on the section. The Lower, Middle, and Upper Levels consist of an Essay, Math Achievement, Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Reasoning, and Verbal Reasoning.
Essay
The Essay section provides students with a writing prompt based on a topic of interest for students at a specific grade level. The Essay section measures a student's writing ability when it comes to spelling, grammar, and punctuation. It's also a way for your student to help their potential school learn more about them in terms of their creativity and personality.
Math Achievement
On the Lower Level ISEE, the Math Achievement section focuses on patterns, simple operations, and decimals, among other topics. The Middle Level ISEE covers fractions, integer comparison, and measurement. Finally, the Upper Level contains questions about triangles, geometric shapes, and word problems.
Reading Comprehension
The Lower Level ISEE covers picking out the main idea of a passage, style, and tone within the Reading Comprehension section. The Middle Level exam looks at figurative and literal language and identifying information within a passage. Finally, the Upper Level ISEE covers cause and effect, comparing and contrasting, and literary genres.
Quantitative Reasoning
The Lower Level exam consists of questions regarding finding the probability of an event, multiplication, and division among other topics. The Middle Level ISEE looks at the distributive property, square roots, and percentages. Finally, the Upper Level exam contains questions about exponents, data analysis, and perimeter.
Verbal Reasoning
At the Lower Level, this section covers elementary and middle school-level vocabulary words and sentence completion. The Middle Level ISEE examines parts of speech, prefixes, and middle and high school-level vocabulary. Finally, the Upper Level looks at high school level-vocabulary and synonyms.
Primary Level
When a second-grade student takes the ISEE, they take an exam that contains an Auditory Comprehension section. This section contains six questions that involve students listening to passages and answering questions about what they heard. For students in second, third, and fourth grade, the Primary Level of the ISEE involves a Math, Reading, and Writing section.
The Math section covers basic mathematical topics, the Reading section focuses on vocabulary words, and the Writing section has students write a story about a picture.
How can a Detroit ISEE course help my student prepare for the exam?
There are numerous ways in which a Detroit ISEE course can help your student prepare for the exam. Their ISEE course is designed to be as close to a traditional classroom setting as possible. This means that your student can work with both an instructor and fellow students. Working with an instructor can be beneficial because a class can cover topics that will be on the exam in detail. Whether your student needs extra help with vocabulary words or needs to review math concepts, their instructor can assist them. Furthermore, if your student doesn't understand a particular topic, they can meet with their instructor on an individual level to ask specific questions.
It can also be valuable for your student to collaborate with other students because it allows for the possibility of engaging in class discussions and activities. Some students have a difficult time focusing when they're just listening to an instructor. Class activities and discussions offer an alternate way to learn the same information, which can make the difference between a student understanding a concept or not.
One of the major benefits of signing your student up for a Detroit ISEE course is that the course takes place online. So you don't have to worry about getting your student to another after-school activity because they can take the course at your house. Additionally, new classes begin every week so it's easy to find a way to fit a course into your student's busy schedule.
In addition to reviewing content, a Detroit ISEE course can also help your student in terms of working on test-taking skills such as time management, strategies for attacking difficult questions, and methods for dealing with test anxiety. Considering time management, for example, your student will have only have so much time to complete each section on the exam. Getting the timing of the test down can make a difference in terms of being able to complete every question.
How can I sign my student up for a Detroit ISEE prep course?
Signing your student up for a Detroit ISEE prep course is as simple as contacting Varsity tutors either online or over the phone. You can enroll them in either a two-week or four-week course based on your student's needs.
