If you are in the middle of preparing for the GRE or just beginning your study time, signing up for a Las Vegas GRE class through Varsity Tutors may be beneficial. The GRE is used by many universities and colleges as a part of their admissions process into their graduate school. Thus, if you are interested in attending graduate school at a university like the University of Nevada Las Vegas, it may be useful to get some extra help with your preparation by taking a Las Vegas GRE course.
The GRE is offered in over 160 different countries in the world and is typically available for students to take on a computer. Students are given 3 hours and 45 minutes to finish the exam. The GRE has three different sections that involve math, writing, and reading. While you may be comfortable with one or even two of these sections, it's possible that you may be struggling in one of the other areas. Going through a GRE course can be helpful in terms of making progress in the areas where you may not feel as comfortable while also reviewing the material for the other topics.
What can a Las Vegas GRE class help me review?
A Las Vegas GRE class can help you review material in a wide range of areas. The primary areas you'll be expected to know for the GRE are math, reading, and writing. Reviewing material for the test may involve going over vocabulary words that may show up on the exam, going over math formulas, or working on writing an essay, depending on what sections you're working on.
The GRE is made up of three sections, which include the Analytical Writing section, the Quantitative Reasoning section, and the Verbal Reasoning section. Each of these sections is designed to test a variety of skills that are believed to be an indicator of future success in graduate school.
The Analytical Writing section consists of two questions and you are given a total of 60 minutes to complete it. You will receive 30 minutes to complete each of the questions. This section is graded between 0 and 6 points and includes one question that asks you to analyze an argument and another question that requires you to analyze an issue.
The Analytical Writing section is designed to look at how well you can maintain a coherent and focused discussion, how well you're able to examine claims by using evidence, and how well you're able to support your ideas with examples and logic. Essentially, this section looks at how well you can write in English.
The Quantitative Reasoning section is made up of two sections that contain 20 questions each. You will receive an hour and ten minutes to finish this section and it is scored between 130 and 170 points. This section is concerned with testing your mathematical skills. It is designed to look at your ability to understand mathematical concepts and your ability to solve problems by using quantitative methods. In terms of topics, this section covers arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
The Verbal Reasoning section also consists of two sections that contain 20 questions each. It is also scored between 130 and 170 points. However, you are only given an hour to finish this section that covers reading and vocabulary. This section involves three kinds of questions, including sentence equivalence, text completion, and reading comprehension.
The questions connected to sentence equivalence require you to examine a sentence and decide what the best options are in terms of filling in the blank portions of the sentence. You will be provided with six answer options and you will have to choose two of them. These questions are designed to test your understanding of the meaning behind sentences and individual words.
The questions concerning text completion ask you to read a short passage and choose an answer option that best fits the blank sections of the passage. These questions are designed to measure your ability to interpret meaning based on context and your ability to draw the correct conclusion based on only partial information.
The last type of question is reading comprehension. This requires you to read passages of varying lengths and answer questions about them. These questions are geared towards measuring your ability to summarize a passage and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of a certain position.
How can Las Vegas GRE courses help me prepare?
A Las Vegas GRE course can help you prepare for each section of the GRE. While there's not a lot of material to go over in terms of preparing for the Analytical Writing section, there are ways a Las Vegas GRE course can help you prepare for this section. Your instructor can go over the types of questions that usually show up as a part of the writing section. It can also be useful to practice coming up with a plan and being able to execute it within a 30-minute span. A half-hour isn't a lot of time, so you have to manage your time effectively in order to answer the question fully.
Working with an instructor in a Las Vegas GRE course can be helpful when preparing for the Quantitative Reasoning section because you will likely need to know a variety of different mathematical formulas for this section. If you haven't taken a math class in a long time or math really isn't your strong suit, going over this material with someone to guide you could be helpful.
The collaborative nature of an online Las Vegas GRE class might also help bulk up your vocabulary so that you may be less likely to be thrown by a word you don't recognize on test day. You and your fellow students can work together to talk through various concepts. This can be helpful when studying the Verbal Reasoning section of the test.
