If you're ready to pursue a graduate-level education at Northwestern University, DePaul University, or another one of the thousands of excellent schools around the world, Varsity Tutors can set you up with a Chicago GRE prep course. Working with an instructor and your peers in a collaborative online environment can be highly beneficial. Group study, lessons reviewing subjects from past years, and practice tests can help you prepare for the GRE, or Graduate Record Examinations. Instructors have been carefully interviewed to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to educate students on the content and format of the exam.
Your GRE scores reflect your writing skills, command of English, and mathematical abilities. Many college and university admissions departments take these scores seriously. Your performance on the test can have a big impact on your future, in terms of school and your career. The ability to apply your knowledge in a testing environment may require practice. The GRE is 3 hours and 45 minutes long. But Varsity Tutors can connect you with a Chicago GRE course designed to help you perform your best on the exam.
What Exactly Does a Chicago GRE Class Cover?
The GRE is a three-section test which can be quite challenging even if you have excelled in all your academic subjects. It includes a 60-minute Analytical Writing section, 60-minute Verbal Reasoning Section, and a 1-hour, 10-minute Quantitative Reasoning section. In most areas, the exam is computer-based. Here we'll provide an overview of each section, the types of questions it includes, and the skills you'll need to reach for your performance goals on the GRE.
There are two tasks in the Analytical Writing section. The first requires you to analyze an issue, and the second involves analyzing an argument. You have 30 minutes to complete each task. This means you must carefully read the directions, understand the task, write a response, and check it for clarity and errors. At the same time, you want to demonstrate key skills such as articulation of complex concepts, using supporting ideas to supply examples and reasons, and examining claims with the appropriate evidence. Colleges reviewing your essays will closely scrutinize your command of written English, so you want to have these skills down before walking into the test room.
The Verbal Reasoning section includes reading comprehension questions. Each test has approximately 10 passages, which vary in length from one to several paragraphs, and often several questions per passage. There are other types of questions in this section as well. They include tasks such as choosing the right option to fill in a blank section of a passage and picking a choice that best fits the partial information in a sentence. A multitude of skills are measured here. Your answers show how well you know the meaning of words and sentences, analyze text, and reach conclusions from incomplete information and interpret meaning from context, among other aptitudes.
The Quantitative Reasoning section tests your basic math skills. It requires you to apply logical reasoning and problem-solving skills to answer questions and apply concepts in arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, as well as data analysis. In this math test, you'll encounter multiple-choice questions, quantitative comparisons, and numeric entry questions.
However, not all of the sections on the GRE are scored. In addition to measuring your academic skills, the exam designers are also trying out new questions. They may do this in one of two ways. An Experimental section may be embedded within the Quantitative Reasoning or Verbal Reasoning sections, but you won't know which questions aren't going to be scored. There may be a Research section instead. Placed at the end of the test, it is identified. You can choose whether or not to complete it.
How Can a Chicago GRE Course Help Improve My Performance on the Exam?
As has been demonstrated above, the GRE covers many different topics and skills. Some subjects you may not have reviewed in a while. Others may reveal learning gaps which you'll need to shore up as you prepare for this test. An expert GRE instructor can collaborate with you and your peers using a live virtual platform. The course is entirely online and you can log in from any device. You can interact with your instructor and classmates and get the practice you need, no matter where you are.
Learning in groups has many benefits. It can be hard to cover everything while studying alone. Sometimes you miss important points. With group instruction, you can get a more comprehensive review and learn from the questions your online classmates raise. A Chicago GRE class can help you improve your algebra skills or how you read passages to weed out incorrect answers before choosing the correct choice. There are many strategies that can help you pick up the pace and answer every question in time, and you could cover several in a GRE class.
Scheduling a Chicago GRE course has been made simple. New courses start weekly and there are two- and four-week programs to select depending on your preferences and level of preparation. And if at any point in the course you have trouble understanding something, your instructor can set aside one-on-one time at your request. Instructors are dedicated to providing students with any extra help they need while also providing foundational knowledge and confidence that can help you reach for your test score goals.
