For students who have been looking for help with their preparation for the GRE, Varsity Tutors is here to help you find an Austin GRE class designed to prepare you for this important exam. The score earned on the GRE has significant implications in the outcome of admissions decisions for graduate programs. An Austin GRE class can provide you with the kind of detailed and structured test review that is difficult to replicate when studying alone.
An Austin GRE prep course comes with several benefits that may elevate your performance on the exam. Your courses will be taught online in a collaborative environment that mirrors a real classroom. The course will be led by an instructor who has a thorough knowledge of the GRE. Varsity Tutors will strive to connect you with an Austin GRE course that will give you the extra time you need to focus on the topics you will face on the exam.
Undergraduate students and working professionals who are applying to graduate programs will likely take the GRE as part of the admissions process. Whether you're applying to a program at institutions of higher learning such as the University of Texas at Austin or St. Edward's University, the help provided by an Austin GRE class could give you a competitive advantage over other applicants to those programs. The three sections of the GRE will each challenge you in a different capacity. Since admissions boards use the GRE as a way to compare applicants, scoring well on this test could improve your chances of being accepted into the program of your choice.
What will be covered during the Austin GRE course?
The three sections that comprise the GRE are Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. Question types include multiple choice and written responses. The total time you are given to complete all three sections is 3 hours and 45 minutes. An Austin GRE course focuses on improving the skills you will need to demonstrate to perform well on the exam. The following is a more in-depth breakdown of the exam, including the layout of each section and the types of questions you will have to answer.
The Analytical Writing section gives you 60 minutes to complete 2 tasks. The first task asks you to provide your own analysis of an issue, whereas the second asks you to analyze an argument. You are given 30 minutes to complete each task. The analysis of both tasks must be in the form of a written response. Basic writing skills and supporting examples are the most critical pieces that will be factored into the final score each analysis receives. This section is scored on a scale of 0-6.
The Verbal Reasoning section consists of 2 parts, both with 20 questions. You are allotted 60 minutes for this section. The three areas you will be challenged on in this section are reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence. For the reading comprehension questions, you will have to read approximately 10 different written passages ranging from one to several paragraphs. Following each passage is a set of 1-6 questions related to the topic addressed in the passage. The questions will test your ability to comprehend the passage's meaning. The text completion questions will challenge you to fill in the blanks within short passages. For each blank, you are given 3-5 options to fill in the empty space. The sentence equivalence questions will give you a piece of a sentence which you will have to complete by choosing the best option out of the six choices presented to you. Your final score on the Verbal Reasoning section will range from 130-170.
The Quantitative Reasoning section will test your understanding of math concepts and your ability to apply those concepts. This section is split up into 2 parts with 20 questions each. You have a total of 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete this section. Arithmetic and data analysis are two examples of the areas you will be tested on in this section. The types of questions in this section range from numeric entry to quantitative comparison.

I graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC in 2008, the oldest English speaking acting conservatory in the world. I graduated Summa from University of St Thomas with a BA in English, and just wrapped up a MS in Data Science from Northwestern. I'm a huge Red Sox fan and love watching detective shows when I have free time.... Positivity. Always. I believe that if a student is given positive tools and is allowed to understand the material rather than be lectured at, they're more likely to do well in the future.

I'm an experienced teacher and tutor with a Bachelors in English from the University of Alabama and a Masters in Literature and the Humanities from St. Edward's University, looking to help my students share in my love of learning!... The answer is out there. I really do think that, no matter what the problem is, a solution can be found if we all work hard enough!... Discuss what subjects or concepts the student is struggling with, and what study methods just haven't worked for them in the past. That way, we can tackle the problem from a new angle and with a fresh approach!
