If you are looking for a way to augment your student's Kansas City ISEE prep, Varsity Tutors can help. By connecting your student to effective and engaging preparation services, they can help your student make the most of their study time. Many Independent Schools consider the ISEE during the admissions process. This means that helping your student prepare effectively can make a difference for your student's academic career.

The ISEE has four levels to accommodate students that are applying to Independent Schools at different ages. The Primary Level is for students entering grades 2 through 4, the Lower Level is for those entering 5th or 6th grade, the Middle Level for 7th or 8th grade, and the Upper Level for students entering grades 9 and up. The three highest levels have the same number of questions, sections, and time constraints. The questions for these exams are different based on the abilities of students at that age. The Primary Level exams are shorter and feature content better suited to very young students.

What can my student learn about during Kansas City ISEE prep?

The three highest-level ISEE exams contain five main sections which are Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Math Achievement, and the Essay section. Aside from the Essay section, all the sections are in multiple-choice format. There are three Primary Level exams (2, 3, and 4) which are for students entering those grades. The sections on the Primary Level are Reading, Math, and a Writing Sample. The Primary Level 2 exam contains an Auditory Comprehension section as well. Let's take a bit of time to understand more about the layout of the exams. This will focus on the content of the three highest-level exams as the Primary Level exams contain much more elementary knowledge and skills.

The Verbal Reasoning section requires students to display their understanding of the English language. Those at the Lower Level will need to display an understanding of age-appropriate vocabulary, and the use of context clues. Middle-Level and Upper-Level students must answer questions related to parts of speech, word clues, and prefixes/suffixes/roots from Greek, Latin, and Anglo-Saxon. This section contains 40 questions that students have 20 minutes to understand. Questions revolve around synonyms and sentence completion.

During the Quantitative Reasoning section, students will encounter questions that are based around using mathematics to solve problems. This section is more focused on mathematical reasoning than mathematical operations, but students must also be able to solve equations and work with integers, fractions, decimals, percents, and do other types of calculations. This section involves algebraic and geometric problems, as well as questions involving data analysis. There are 37 questions in this section and students will have 35 minutes to complete the section.

In the Reading Comprehension section, students must answer questions that require them to understand the main points, tone, and other information from passages that are provided on the exam. Students will need to understand genre, be able to identify relationships, and use inference to obtain information that the text does not state explicitly. This section contains 36 questions and allows 35 minutes to finish.

The Math Achievement section allows students 40 minutes to answer 47 questions. This section gives students a chance to display their ability to effectively solve mathematical problems using the required operations. Students will encounter questions related to probability, algebra, geometry, and factors.

The Essay section of the ISEE presents students with a prompt that is intended to interest students of their particular age. They must then respond in an organized and structured manner. This section of the exam gives students a chance to share about themselves while also using effective English, using details well, and write in a compelling manner.
