English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Saul in Boulder, CO
We focused on organizational and research issues pertaining to her paper. We discussed how her paper would start and how the different types of material she already had would fit into particular sections. We also refined the chronological (as opposed to topical) presentation method she would use. In addition, we discussed what forms institutional response to large-scale protests or anti-Semitic acts might take. Another issue we discussed was the suitability of different types of data for use in her paper. She chose to analyze the number of official, events on campus as a way to gauge how the organization was affected. This information is more easily quantified, obtainable, and relates directly to the Hillel chapter as a whole. At the start of today's session, she was still daunted by the task of figuring out how to make sense of the large amount of material she's obtained, as well as the amount of material that is generally available. Our refinement of her paper's structure helped make the task more manageable by giving her a road map to follow. Prior to our next session, she will have narrowed down the list of Hillel campuses she intends to focus on and started contacting them to request the information she needs.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Margaret in Boulder, CO
The student and I started the brainstorming process for his final essay (#5) assigned in class. We examined the rubric and discussed information from several related sources. Then we focused on the introduction/ summary of the Health IT, electronic records mandates, and the impact of those programs in relation to the ACA. We will meet again on Thursday to complete the edits of what he has accomplished so far with the body of the paper. The essay is due Friday instead of next Monday. We plan to complete it during Thursday's marathon session.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by William in Boulder, CO
I first read the student's business letter she had done for homework. It was a letter to a make-believe company where she was asking for information. Her assignment was to follow the correct structure of a business letter and to use as professional language as possible. It was a remarkable improvement over her last assignment of writing a complaint business letter. After making the necessary corrections, we then reviewed the active and passive voice in verb usage in sentences. The last part of the session was spent on the revision process of writing where she is making 11 revision corrections on a writing about the "Beavis and Butthead" program.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Myles in Boulder, CO
This week, the student and I continued our coverage of the parts of speech and other elements of grammar. He is engaged and attentive during our work together and is moving at a good pace. I am already seeing improvements in his writing in terms of technical proficiency and overall descriptive quality. His retention of information is also very good. Next week, we will finish working on parts of speech and move on to some work on punctuation and sentence types.
