What year in?

I want to thank VT for connecting me with my English tutor. I'm a 49 yr old that enrolled back in college to complete my degree and I was having the most difficult time meeting the demands of my writing assignments. But fortunately, I was matched with an educator that has made what seemed hopeless in my efforts to write academic papers effectively a piece of cake.

I'm very grateful to have found VT. They made the difference between a pass and fail grade for my son. English was one of his most challenging classes and with Varsity Tutors he passed the course. I'm forever grateful.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

English Tutoring review by Michelle in Fishers, IN
Today the student and I worked on argumentative essays and rhetorical essays. She had one of each type of essay prompt that she had written for class. We went through both prompts together and we went through the essays that she wrote, discussing how to approach and how she could make her essay stronger by making her thesis clearer, more explicitly connecting her supporting evidence to her thesis, etc. Then we talked in general about strategies for the argumentative essays. We talked through a new argumentative essay prompt, discussing how to come up with a thesis and supporting evidence for it, how to organize the essay, address counterarguments, etc.

Today, I worked with the student on completing her English project on Elizabeth Bombeck. After completing her poster board, we worked on long division and she completed a comprehension passage on Maya Angelou. I left math and reading assignments for the student to complete until we have our next session. The student was a very good student and completed the work that I left for her last week.

The student sent me his class notes and I reviewed them with him, adding context and detail when needed. The notes are pretty well laid out as far as key terms and takeaways. He should be ready for his test.

We went over a preliminary draft of a short research paper. We talked about how to use sources for citation, citation forms, how to make a strong introduction and conclusion, and how to explain experimental outcomes.

English Tutoring review by Brittany in Fishers, IN
The student practiced writing all of the 26 letters of the alphabet. I modeled letters for students to trace and copy. The student identified words that started with each letter/sound. We wrote words for each letter. The student formed sentences about his 8 favorite superheroes. I modeled sentences for the student to trace and write to further practice writing letters. The student read a short story about a pool, highlighted main ideas, and answered reading comprehension questions. Student's writing and phonics is improving.

English Tutoring review by Isabelle in Fishers, IN
The student and I worked on his non-fiction writing. I gave him a prompt and timed him. I then asked him what he'd like to write about and gave him a few minutes to think of four different prompts. He then chose his favorite which was, "my favorite teacher is" and then he wrote that one. Once he was done, I corrected it and went over any mistakes with him. Then, we decided it would be nice to give it to her as a gift. So we got him a nice clean sheet of paper and he rewrote it neatly to give to her.
