Varsity Tutors can help you prepare for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) with expert Columbus MCAT prep instruction from course teachers and private tutors. The MCAT is one of the most important exams you will face on your path to a career in medicine. It is also one of the most challenging. The intensity of the test is necessary to determine which candidates have the best chance of succeeding in medical school. The accuracy of the MCAT is highly regarded throughout the academic community, which is why almost all medical schools require students to submit their MCAT scores as part of the application process.
Whether you intend to apply to the Ohio State University College of Medicine immediately after completing your undergraduate studies or you want to enroll at another respected institution after spending time in a career, you shouldn't underestimate the importance of thoroughly preparing before you take the MCAT. Continue reading to learn more about the format and content of the exam and how Varsity Tutors can help you identify and get started with the right Columbus MCAT prep solution for your academic needs.
What can Columbus MCAT prep cover?
There are four MCAT sections; Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. At just over six hours of actual testing time, this is a lengthy examination. However, each section is no more than 95 minutes long, and all of the questions are multiple choice.
All of the sections of the MCAT include many sets of questions based on individual reading passages. Most also include some items independent of any reading selections. At any point, you may encounter an experimental question, but it will not have an impact on your score. You will receive a total of 5 scores for the MCAT; one for each of the individual sections as well as one that is a combination of the four.
Working with a professional instructor as part of a class or in a one-on-one setting will allow you to review the various skills and subject area content you will encounter on the MCAT. Some of the subject areas you may wish to include as part of your study preparations are general chemistry, introductory physics, inorganic chemistry, introductory biology, organic chemistry, basic biochemistry, reading comprehension, English, introductory psychology, and introductory sociology. Some of the specific skills measures by the MCAT include your ability to work with a diverse population, scientific reasoning, analytical skills, verbal reasoning, and analytical skills. Concepts to be familiar with before taking the MCAT include functions of human anatomy, physical and chemical principles operating the human body and other living systems, processes unique to living organisms, and foundational concepts of biology and biochemistry.
How can a Columbus MCAT prep class help me prepare?
When you enroll in a prep class, you can choose between two and four-week sessions. This enables you to prioritize your MCAT prep for a period that is feasible for your needs and availability. You can start when you're ready because all classes are divided into different sections and new sections begin weekly.
Your teacher will meet with the class and discuss specific concepts and skills with direct instruction. They may then facilitate group projects or conversations to help you internalize the information. If you need additional clarity around a specific topic, you can always ask an instructor for help.
An MCAT class is ideal for you if you need someone to give you a structured approach to learning. It can give you the scaffolding upon which to build a solid preparation strategy without the worry of missing any critical components. It is also great for students who thrive in group environments where they can receive support and encouragement from others.
How is working with a Columbus MCAT tutor different from taking a course?
When you work with a personal tutor, you have more scheduling flexibility than what you will find with a prep course. Courses are designed to accommodate a lot of students and efficiently help them make progress towards their testing goals. To do this effectively, schedules must be firmly established. Unfortunately, course schedules may not always fit well with your prior commitments to school, family, or work. When you work with a private instructor, you have a higher degree of control over when your sessions occur. You can schedule a tutoring session during the day or evening throughout the week and on weekends.
If you've never given yourself the gift of private instruction, you may not realize that this is one of the most significant benefits of working with a personal tutor. When you are in a classroom setting, the teacher is responsible for helping all of the students move ahead with their studies. They must provide group instruction and answer questions from individual students, which doesn't leave a lot of one-on-one time for each person. This method is fantastic for giving the most students a large amount of information, but it doesn't allow for a custom learning experience. When you work with a private instructor, sessions are designed around your learning style, educational needs, and MCAT goals.
If you need a lot of scheduling flexibility, have only a few core concepts to cover, or prefer working directly with an instructor to go into greater depth on areas as needed, private MCAT tutoring may be the best fit.

...what they already know and help them take it further. That is what I am here to do! I currently work as a college professor and I do research on economics, families, and the United States. I teach a wide range of subjects, because I LOVE to explore the connections across different fields that really help students see how the things they are learning in any given class relate to the world around them.... My teaching philosophy is best summed up by the phrase "student-centered learning." I personalize every lesson to match my client's particular needs and the skills they bring to the subject matter. Sometimes, clients don't know how much knowledge they already have, and it's my job to help them find that inner knowledge and link it to the content we are working on together. When a client knows that what they are learning is linked to who they are and what they know of the world, there is nothing that can stop them from succeeding!
