If you're ready to take your foreign language studies to the next level with a Buffalo Korean class, Varsity Tutors offers one of the most comprehensive products in the industry. Korean is spoken by about 75,000,000 people worldwide. It's the official language of South Korea and North Korea, but it has a significant number of speakers in the United States, Japan, Russia, and China as well.
Korean is considered a "language isolate," which means that linguists have yet to identify a clear relationship between Korean and any known language group. This forces Korean-learners to study new rules and words no matter which other languages they might know, adding to the degree of difficulty.
We've heard a variety of reasons for taking a Buffalo Korean class over the years. Area high school students at institutions such as Hutchinson Central Technical High School and City Honors School may want to learn the language for future college degree opportunities. Similarly, undergraduates attending local institutions such as the University at Buffalo may study Korean as they work toward a degree. Career-focused individuals may study Korean to add to their resume, while some study it out of an appreciation for the culture that produced it. Let Varsity Tutors help you work toward your goals no matter why you may have set them.
What can I go over during a Buffalo Korean course?
Practice is the most important component of learning any language, but finding somebody to practice Korean with on a regular basis can feel daunting. Thankfully, enrolling in a Buffalo Korean class gives you a set block of time each week to practice your spoken Korean skills with a knowledgeable instructor and several other students at the same level you are. If you're only just starting to study Korean, your instructor can be patient with you as you ask questions about the fundamentals. If you're a more advanced student of the language, your instructor may conduct entire sessions in Korean for a more immersive experience.
You can also practice your written Korean by taking a formal course. Korean has a phonetic alphabet comparable to the English system, but it's also acceptable to incorporate Chinese kanji that represent entire words into your work. Worse, there are no established rules for what to use when. If all of this seems too confusing for you, your instructor can help you come up with an approach that works for you.
Many students also want to review the finer points of Korean grammar. For example, all Korean sentences must end with either a verb or an adjective. This flies in the face of what English-speakers are accustomed to, as you would never say "she the bug caught" or "bug big" even though both structures are correct in Korean. If you need help recalling all of the ways in which Korean differs from English, your instructor can teach you some mnemonic devices to ease the emphasis on rote memorization.
How will my Buffalo Korean course be structured?
Every course we provide consists of a group of students meeting their expert instructor on our proprietary live virtual platform, essentially an online classroom that allows you all to see and hear each other in real time. This format is incredibly convenient, as you never need to worry about traffic making you late for a session.
You're free to interact with your classmates as well as your teacher, allowing everyone to work together to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the language. For instance, listening to your classmates speak exposes you to a variety of accents and dialects to better prepare you to hear Korean outside of an educational setting. Studying in a group also allows you to split the associated costs, making formal Korean lessons more affordable than you might expect. If you ever feel as though you could benefit from individualized attention, you also retain the right to arrange private study sessions with your teacher outside of normal class hours on an as-needed basis.
We understand how busy you are, so we strive to make all of our products as accessible as we can. We offer multiple courses concurrently, including both two- and four-week options to make it easier to find something that works for you. New sessions also start every month, so we're ready to get started when you are.
