Your GRE score is one factor that admissions boards from schools such as UC-Boulder will use to determine if you are a good fit for their school. The GRE has three sections and will showcase your skills to potential graduate and law schools. Your score will be used to help determine how well you may perform in these areas in the classroom, so it is vital that you adequately prepare yourself to perform at your best.
What can Boulder GRE prep cover?
As stated previously, the GRE has three sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. There are many types of questions found on the exam including reading comprehension, test completion, and multiple choice. You will have around three hours and 45 minutes to complete the exam. You will be tested on many skills, so having the help of a GRE course is a great plan. Now we will look into each section of the exam in more detail.
The Verbal Reasoning section will measure your abilities in analyzing and drawing conclusions from incomplete data, understanding many levels of meaning, and understanding the meaning of texts, sentences, and words. You will be met with three types of questions in this section including reading comprehension, test-completion, and sentence equivalence. There are two subsections with 20 questions in each, and you will have an hour to complete them. Your answers will earn you a score between 130 and 170.
Next is the Quantitative Reasoning section, which also has two sub-sections of 20 questions each with a time limit of one hour and ten minutes. This section tells schools how strong your basic math skills are, as well as if you understand math concepts and if you can use logical reasoning skills to solve problems. There are three types of questions in this section, including numeric entry, multiple-choice, and quantitative comparison.
The Analytical Reasoning section will test your abilities in both analytical writing and critical thinking. You will be faced with two tasks in this section, and each one has a time limit of 30 minutes. You will need to assess the task and the directions with it, plan out your response, write a response, and check it over for errors and clarity within the time allotted.
Also, your exam may have an experimental section that is embedded within the Quantitative Reasoning or Verbal Reasoning sections. You will not be notified if you have this section and it is not scored. It is simply used to try out questions for possible inclusion in the exam. Additionally, there may be a research section at the end of the test that takes the place of the Experimental section. The research section is optional, and it is not scored either.
