Varsity Tutors can help you find an Atlanta Japanese course that can get more Japanese language practice into your schedule. Whether you're a Westlake High School student looking to pick up a new language early in life, an Emory University Japanese major or minor, a student at any other area school, or even a professional in the workforce with an interest in Japanese, we are here to help you. Traditional classrooms aren't always up to addressing the unique challenges presented by language learning, particularly the amount of consistent practice that it takes to really grasp any language. This is where an Atlanta Japanese course can offer you a lot of value by providing you with both an expert Japanese instructor who will guide your study and a community of other Japanese learners to converse with.
How will an Atlanta Japanese class help me study the language?
Although Japanese isn't widely spoken outside of the archipelago of Japan, and no other country has used Japanese as an official language since the mid-20th century, Japanese is still spoken by over 125 million people and is considered a major world language. Not a lot is known about the history of Japanese, although some scholars believe it to be linked to Korean. Japan's unique history and culture is represented in the language, which can seem unusual and idiosyncratic for many new speakers. For starters, Japanese sentence structure often seems to be reversed compared to what English speakers are used to. The object that a verb references comes before the verb, meaning that the English "I drink water" becomes "I water drink" in Japanese.
Other elements of Japanese grammar can seem vague, at first. Japanese uses two tenses: past, and non-past. "Non-past" refers to the fact that Japanese doesn't differentiate between past and future tenses, so some tense information must be inferred from context. Additionally, Japanese nouns lack a lot of the grammatical information that you might be used to, like number, gender, and articles. Where in English you might say "a book," or "some books," in Japanese you would just say "book." The rest must be, again, inferred from context. You'll also have to practice pronouncing Japanese, learn common phrases and vocabulary, and may even study some Japanese history.
You'll practice all of this in an Atlanta Japanese class alongside other Japanese learners in an online classroom where you'll be able to see and speak with your classmates and a qualified Japanese teacher. Your teacher will present lessons, and you'll engage with collaborative group activities and discussions with your peers. You may be able to imagine how speaking Japanese with other learners at your level, along with feedback from your Japanese teacher, can be very effective in helping you learn vocabulary, study the intricacies of Japanese grammar, and build confidence in your ability to use Japanese in other contexts. Additionally, although class environments can be a good way to learn, we recognize that private time with an expert Japanese teacher can be useful too, which is why a class will allow you to reserve this sort of one-on-one time, so you can get back up to speed on any topics you find yourself struggling with. You'll also be getting a great value by having access to an experienced Japanese teacher at a group price.
An online course provides other values as well. You'll be able to get to your Atlanta Japanese course from anywhere that you have internet access, which means that you won't have to stress about adding another commute to your busy schedule, saving you time and money. This convenience can be particularly important for you when learning a language. Much of your ability to learn Japanese quickly and well will depend on how regularly you have the opportunity to use your skills, so by having your Japanese course right at your fingertips, you can minimize the barriers standing between you and your Japanese learning goals. Online courses also allow for a wider range of course times to be on offer, so you can find a course that fits your need whether you're a North Atlanta High School student who'd like to learn Japanese but needs to squeeze it in to a schedule crammed with sports practices, or a college student looking for a weekend course.
