Algebra Tutoring review by David in Pittsburgh, PA
Today the student and I went over various topics in preparation for his exam tomorrow in Algebra. We reviewed simplification, factoring, inequalities, graphing series of linear equations, and radical simplification. I expect him to perform well on tomorrow's exam after we had ironed out a few concepts with which he was struggling.

The student and I started a new unit today. We are working on solving quadratic equations using the quadratic formula. In the beginning, she was having difficulty remembering to perform addition operations before taking the square root, but I think we got enough practice that she's getting the hang of it.

We built on past sessions adding the preliminary lessons needed for the quadratic formula. I also was able to review his 'progress report'. Currently he has a 78% in the class, we were able to go through the assignments he is missing, email his teacher about missing assignments, and extra credit in hopes to get his grade up to a B.

Algebra Tutoring review by Ashley in Pittsburgh, PA
In today's session, the student and I worked on a review for Chapter 12 as preparation for her test tomorrow. We worked on factoring, simplifying rational expressions, graphing rational expressions, finding the vertical and horizontal asymptotes of a rational expression, and we also looked over a previous chapter's test for more factoring practice. Overall, she worked through the work with amazing ease, and I have no doubt she'll do well on her test. All she needs to focus on is slowing down and checking over her answers when she's done. If she does this, then she shouldn't get anything less than an A.

Algebra Tutoring review by Paige in Pittsburgh, PA
The student did a homework assignment that dealt with solving sets of two-variable equations by different methods. She was most comfortable with the graphing method, and had some trouble with the substitution and elimination methods. I recommend tutoring throughout the summer in order to more familiarize her with the concepts before she advances to another class. She is a diligent worker and should be able to understand these concepts, as long as she is given time to understand each one individually.

Algebra Tutoring review by Alina in Pittsburgh, PA
Topics covered with the student include axis of symmetry and vertex equations, standard form of a quadratic function, factoring, finding roots, and graphing a quadratic function. Progress achieved was a demonstrated understanding of how to use the standard form of a quadratic equation to find the axis of symmetry and vertex, and how to derive answers from graphing a quadratic function.
