How can your Algebra tutor help you?

Algebra may have a bad connotation for many students. It may call to mind incomprehensible formulas and numbers, and tedious struggles with a subject that they don't quite understand. Memorizing terms and orders of operations may be overwhelming, and many students become bogged down with material that they don't comprehend. Often the pace of the classroom is too quick, and a student may find they are falling further and further behind in their studies. Meeting with a teacher might not be an option due to time constraints, and asking for help from classmates might be embarrassing for the student. A great solution to these problems is the use of a personal tutor, someone who may walk through their troubles and address them step-by-step. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors are skilled at helping students and parents in Madison connect with algebra tutors. With a little help, your child may be totally prepared for a class, exam, WSAS (Wisconsin Student Assessment System), or ACT.

Varsity Tutors may help you locate an independent tutor for your child in Madison, WI, who is experienced in helping students prepare for algebra. Your child's tutor wants them to succeed in their course, and they want them to appreciate the process. They may potentially help to make sure that your child is working on the areas they need the most improvement in, and are staying engaged through fun and educational practice problems. Your child may also receive immediate feedback and assistance as they progress through their lessons with their tutor.

Session Summaries by Algebra Tutors

Algebra Tutoring review by Jonathan in Madison, WI
The student and I continued our review for his final by taking a cumulative test that incorporated problems from all three chapter tests provided in his book. In order to make sure the student was able to readily shift gears on the test, I jumped back and forth between the chapters working on different problem types in succession. I did this to ensure that he did not get too caught up during the test by the problems from any particular chapter. In addition, this also tested the depth of his knowledge of each section and his ability to quickly recall it. As I had noted before, the student does not find any of the topics particularly difficult or confusing. During our review, I made notes of the types of mistakes he was making. He seems to miss points from little errors such as not reading the question in its entirety or simple arithmetic mistakes. As we had worked quickly to finish three separate chapter tests in two hours, I realized time was not an issue for him. I encouraged him to slow down enough to thoroughly read through each question, check his answers as he went along, and to start over on difficult problems rather than try to identify mistakes. If he is able to successfully implement these changes, his grade should improve and more accurately reflect his knowledge of the material. Before leaving, I recommended he take a break from the material for the rest of the night, but study the odd-numbered questions in his review tomorrow.

Algebra Tutoring review by Stephen in Madison, WI
This was the last session with this student. We did two separate things. First, we covered more completing the square and simultaneous equation problems. The main thing we did was solving word problems that involved these two concepts. I went over, briefly, the quadratic formula with him. It was only briefly because he showed proficiency with it. Finally, we did timed practice exams to make sure he was completing his exams on time.

Algebra Tutoring review by Joseph in Madison, WI
We went over homework regarding drawing two lines and finding the intercept graphically. I will be recommending more practice for her to do. She needed to study for a quiz, so we went over Pythagorean theorem. I left her with some additional practice for her quiz.

Algebra Tutoring review by Roozbeh in Madison, WI
We went through her homework. It was about imaginary numbers and how we can use them to solve the square roots, polynomials, fractions, and how to do simple functions such as multiplication, addition, and subtraction. I explained to her what imaginary number means and how she has to use them. We solved almost 45 questions and she understood how she has to do them. She is doing great.

Algebra Tutoring review by Valentina in Madison, WI
The student and I covered topics from last semester including negative numbers, solving equations, systems of equations, and graphing equations of lines in the coordinate system. I think that after our session she had a better grasp of these concepts. She had not started her math class before our session so she didn't have any new material to go over. Next session, we will look at what her new topics are and reinforce any problem areas.
