Mr. D. was able to keep my daughter engaged and interested the entire session. He made her feel confident with reading. She stated that he was the "best teacher in the world". She gave him two thumbs up and a heart. I'm very pleased with my investment towards my child's education using Varsity Tutors.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Lauren in Raleigh-Durham, NC
The student and I worked on all four sections of the test today. He works hard in our sessions and seems to understand the questions when we discuss them. It just takes him longer to process and requires more effort to focus. He's a very diligent student!

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Benjamin in Raleigh-Durham, NC
Today was our final review of the material, and we spent a lot of our time on how to tackle the reading section, and reviewing the practice tests that the student took leading up to this session. He can do well, and he is clearly in a better position than he was at the beginning. We talked about tricks for skimming paragraphs, and strategies for distinguishing weird answers on this section. We also worked a little on the other sections.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Anna in Raleigh-Durham, NC
The student and I reviewed the reading test she had completed and half of a science test she had started. She does well with understanding the tone of a passage and the author's primary ideas, but sometimes has trouble finding small details or eliminating incorrect choices with subtle inaccuracies. We will continue to practice these types of questions, although reading is her highest scoring area of the ACT so it isn't our primary concern at this time. She did well on the science questions she completed. Most of the questions she missed were a result of misinterpreting graphs or charts, so we discussed how to eliminate incorrect or extraneous information in order to focus on the details necessary for correctly answering a question. This evening, she mentioned that the schools she is considering attending will "Superscore" her ACT results. With this information in mind, we will focus even more on bringing up her lower scores (English and science). She and I also practiced a few grammar concepts through targeted drills focusing on parallel structure, apostrophes, and modifiers. She picked up on the concepts very quickly, and will complete an entire English practice test before our next session to further clarify strong and weak concept areas. She will also finish the science test she started and practice the writing test. The English and writing tests will be timed this week.

We focused on the Science section of the ACT. We conducted key strategies to achieve an optimal score through actual practice test problems. I completed an overview, indicating notes and details critical to data analysis within the Science section. We also briefly reviewed key Algebra and Geometric concept formulas.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Jessica in Raleigh-Durham, NC
We worked through the English section that the student had completed on her own. She showed a nice improvement from last time; she's definitely getting more comfortable with the format. We also worked a lot of practice math problems today, including ones on arithmetic and geometric sequences.
