ACT Math Tutoring review by Jaclyn in Los Angeles, CA
The student worked on some math problems from the book, and we went over those together. A few were just a matter of timing, but there were some topics she wasn't too familiar with and questions over concepts. I walked her through how to do those and recognize ones like them in the future.

ACT Math Tutoring review by Steven in Los Angeles, CA
We spent our time working on science and looking at strategies to improve on speed. For the most part she does well. I left homework to read Nat Geo (for science), as well as to do some of the online practice tests.

ACT Math Tutoring review by Nicole in Los Angeles, CA
We focused on algebra 2/trig today and covered factoring, solving equations with the quadratic formula, and started trig functions including degrees vs radians and the unit circle. We also reviewed simplifying rules (especially when using square roots). I showed him the reference sheets I sent him to use for studying and reference. We also discussed a plan for taking practice tests as benchmarks and including some time for writing practice.

We worked on Math today and started with the student taking a diagnostic test. We then began working through it together with her explaining to me her steps through the ones she got correct and working together to solve the ones that she didn't. We will continue with this at our next session on Thursday

We focused on math for the full session. He uses back-solving efficiently, so we identified the types of questions on which he can use back-solving to arrive at the correct answer. He also began to compile a list of key formulas that appear frequently on the test. We will continue to expand upon his formula list next lesson.

ACT Math Tutoring review by Kristyn in Los Angeles, CA
The student took an ACT the previous Saturday. She said she was able to get through the entire science section, but was unsure about how she did with some of the more difficult passages. With math, she felt pretty good with the first 40 math questions, but felt like she didn't have much time and often didn't even know where to start on the last 20 questions. Today we worked only on math. She has been having some difficulties with her alg 2/trig class as well. So, we worked on some of the topics that cross over into her math class as well as the ACT. This was mostly graphing inequalities on a coordinate plane, creating systems of equations from word problems, and solving systems of equations. By the end of the session, she had a pretty good handle on these topics.
