Today we went over relationships on triangles in the packet the student had for a quiz he will be taking tomorrow. We started by defining the relationship between the sides which must form a triangle with a specific rule between each. After that we solved problems, and he was pretty confident on it. Then we continued with situations where the biggest side is located across from the biggest angle. He drew a triangle to show how it happens. He did 12 problems on these topics without help.

The student and I went over topics from both Algebra 2 and Geometry. We reviewed quadratic and linear equations in the first 45 minutes of the session. She was having trouble recalling most things she has being taught in school, which includes factorization and the use of quadratic formula. I was able to explain the steps and ways to know when she is solving questions under quadratic equations. I also shared an alternative method of solving quadratic equations by completing the square and graphing. For the second 45 minutes, we went over geometry, specifically special angles and their corresponding sine and cosine values, and the types of triangles and why they are given their names. We also went over basic things to know in order to be able to solve circle geometry. For next session we will solve circle geometry questions and go over transformation rules and techniques.

In this tutoring session, the student did a vocabulary quiz, and learned TOEFL reading and writing. She got 19 out of 22 correct. She has made significant progress on vocabulary. In addition, she did a TOEFL reading practice. She wrote the outline of the reading, and then she answered the questions by locating the main information. She still needs to gain the skill of using the key words to locate useful information. She is required to collect all the new words she learned from the quiz and reading today, and organize them into a document as homework.

We completed a few problems on the student's homework page. She understood the topic of study but was struggling with the underlying processes (multiplication and division) needed to successfully reach a correct answer for every question. After completing some of the homework problems, we continued to review the multiplication and division facts that we have been covering in the last few sessions.

Tutoring review by Michael in Sealy, TX
This evening, the student wanted to work on the English section of the assessment exam. We used practice tests on verbal skills, mainly focusing on synonyms, antonyms, logical reasoning, and reading comprehension. With guidance, he scored 93% and 96% respectively on two practice tests. I noticed that he needs to expand his vocabulary. So, I advised that he should study the word list in the back of his manual. His father also informed me that he intends to follow through on getting him an anthology of short stories to use to increases awareness of the writing styles of various authors, as well as to build his vocabulary. He expressed that he would also like to do some more math practice. Additionally, he will soon take an assessment exam practice test at school, which will give him an idea upon which topics we should focus.
